I am a vegetarian, HOWEVER, the breaded chicken on the cabbage looks fabulous. I'm going to try it, using tofu slices instead of chicken. FYI, freezing tofu twice turns it into a very close to chicken texture & tofu absorbs the flavors of what you cook it in. This should turn out delicious! Thanks for the inspiration! 😊

Great video and tips. I do resets in 4 grocery stores. I love it when they discontinue something and the store marks it down 75%. We just recently did laundry detergent, paper towels, diapers , and trainers. By the time I got off work , nothing was left. 😪 One time, we did dried beans, and I got 6 bags of pinto beans for .17 a bag. After work , I checked out the meats and dairy department looking for Manager Specials - items and was getting ready to expire. Recently, I got 2 whole chickens for $3.50 each. I even like to get bread, which I can freeze to make my own bread crumbs for meatloaf or meatballs. I love bargains. I even went with a cousin today to a local rummage sale - everything was 10 cents. I found shirts, shorts, capris, a basket, booking, etc. She said they have it twice a year - people donate to the local library. Earlier on the week, she bought jars for storing dried food in - a box for $10. What they do not sale then they have the 10 cent sale, which is what I went to I am learning more on foraging - dandelions, purple nettle, chickweed, garlic mustard, sweet violets, etc. All these years, and I thought most of this stuff was just weeds (except dandelions).

I can completely understand the low key, catch your breath, style of vacation. I live in N. KY and a favorite place for DH & I to go is Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill in Harrodsburg, KY. You can stay on the property in restored Shaker buildings, learn about the Shaker history and how they farmed, their music, etc. If lucky enough to be there when the Poplar trees are in bloom the sight is truly impressive. At night you could hear a pin drop. Should you ever have the chance to be in our neck of the woods, check it out.

Because I learned how to pressure can and freeze dry, bought a second freezer, watch for sales and know my prices, I'm at the point where almost everything I buy is on sale. Ground beef was $6.99 a pound last week. Today it was $4.99 and buy one get one free that's $2.50 a pound , yeah. For mother's day I received an avid armor vacuum sealer, and I was busy preparing it for the freezer. Awesome machine. When I have some extra time I'll cook it, make chili, taco meat or, spaghetti sauce and freeze dry it for future use. I now no longer waste food and my food bill has been cut in half, plus it is convenient having options. Great getting ideas from so many people.

Spent most of the day in the garden today. Potatoes are hilled, onions are in, beans just went in as well as some companion plants. I didn’t forget the flowers which are natures pest control as well as beautiful and most have medicinal qualities as well. Quick trip to Walmart for some potting soil on rollback and ran into grocer clerk. She told us if we found anything that “expired” today or tomorrow, she’d mark down. Needless to say, I found ALL the beef stew meat and the markdown will not incredible definitely was worth the purchase. Beef has become so expensive and you know I’m canning that! I love me some Bourbon beef. My mom has asked for some just canned in beef broth (which I’ve already got…my own 😉) for her famous beef and noodles. All in all a good day. Produce was sky high so I made sure to order my Bountiful Basket which makes in season produce (fruits and veggies) extremely affordable especially if you know how to preserve. Highly recommend Bountiful Basket if you have it available in your area. Happy harvesting/preserving everyone!
@BecomingaFarmGirl Жыл бұрын
Honey you have been busy! Your future self will sure appreciate all the work you're putting in now. What a blessing on the beef stew meat! Each time I find a few packages of marked down meat I get so excited and squeal right in the grocery store because I know I can do exactly as you are- canning it when I get home with cuts of meat I otherwise would not be able to afford to put in my pantry. Staying in touch with what's in season in your area means that you are constantly getting the best tasting food and lowest prices. Does it take a bit of discipline. At first, yes, but there are so many ways to prepare in season foods. I'll have to check in my area to see if I have the Bountiful Baskets!

Becky!!! Always good to see ya honey! CSA's are def. the way to go. I hadn't tried rhubarb until 2 years ago. Like I shared, its tart so to use it, you'll want to find a recipe that pairs it with sweet and/or heat. A rhubarb oatmeal crisp topped with icecream or a cobbler are other ways I've used it fresh when I didn't have enough to can. That trip was perfect. Super low key and simple but with our crazy work schedules and weekends that are ramping up with family, chores and life events, having a few days away just to exhale was a good reminder to "slow down" when you can. Hope your spring is off to a good start!

Honey, I've got overgrown cuticles, little nicks and grease splash burns from moving too fast in the kitchen, hang nails and all and I thought, "I should really at least go get a manicure somewhere so they look better on camera" but I can stand the thought of sitting in a nail shop when I could be enjoying my time at home. Thanks for saying this!

So good to watch another one of your videos. Isn't it great to go out with mom?. I treasure every single time I get to do that. Great use of your freezer meals. I am heading out to the local produce market to see what I can get to can. I need to restock my beans this coming week. Thanks friend!

Sandra! So good to see you. And yes, you said it best, I treasure all of our times together. Those freezer meals were time and money savers. Eating out is crazy expensive. With just a bit of prep you can continue to eat delicious meals without adding a dime to your food budget. Stock those beans!

Im so happy you know about this place (and enjoy it as much as we do!)🦀🦀🦀🦀 Girl, you’ve got this; I’ve scaled to what I’m growing over time but even having a few potted herbs and a dwarf cherry tomato pot growing in pots is a great start (and practical way to enjoy your garden)❤️❤️❤️
