I think you got carried away with "fabulously wealthy". Genuine forbidden areas to "dare not visit" are more like North Sentinel Island off India and the Australian ghost town Wittenoom - where the ground and air is infested with blue asbestos

I doubt there are as many snakes, as claimed, for 2 reasons. If there were that many, they would have eaten themselves out of prey. Secondly, if there were that many snakes, the sea birds would find somewhere else to go. Makes a good story, though.
