New aircraft technology designs always look wonderful on paper. The number of these aircraft/VTOLs that will meet performance stated here and become not just an under-performing novelty but a commercial success I estimate between zero and one. :)

Maybe the ones in this video, perhaps. From what has already been achieved, and in progress, I'm rather surprised you are so convinced these will fail. It's equally surprising seeing others agreeing with you. It all depends on who backs these designs. Several similar aircraft have made it much further than expected. The best for me: 4:21 Original transición, I like the design but not sure how robust would be. 2:23 Hydrogen should be the energy carrier of choice for any flying vehicle who needs to be in the air for more than 2 hours, batteries had many drawbacks with capacity and weight. 9:19 Not bad. Simple and effective

yeah those specks are a dreamers garbage sales pitch. the fuel cell required to run those motors is going to kill its lift to weight ratio, and that will kill the range. that combined with the poor power density of hydrogen, and those specks are an unrealistic pipe dream... the kind that leaves you broke and wondering what happened.

11 reminds me of limousine services and I notice if the 3rd blade towards the end was jointed then chopper like maneuvers can be made but lite weight joints or controlling solid heavy appendages like robot arms and such have not been conquered yet osprey is a good example heavy joints huge blades😂

#10 is the most practical, amazing wing folding design gives compact dimensions on the ground. None will ever see market until an FAA FAR approval rating is produced and universally agreed to.

Thanks! I do think that, for the time being, hybrid motors will be the most successful model. Not only does that increase potential range, it provides extra power for take-off & landing, and provides at least a minimum fuel-based back-up to the batteries. Also, it reduces the burden on the electrical grid, until more (and more *_renewable_*) sources can be brought on-line to help carry the load of all these rechargeable batteries! Speaking of which - I'm curious as to research by the airline industry into any possible hybridization. Ideally, fuel is better (as I mentioned above) for more power-intensive portions of flight, while batteries - maybe even with something like solar added) are suitable for cruising (though perhaps at reduced speeds.) I realize there's really nothing quite like fuel at the moment, anyway, but I'm aware that there's always an 'out of the box' futurism inherent in keeping up! Thanks again. 𝒕𝒂𝒗𝒊.

omg 5 passenger with wheelchair access #5 is the most sensible !!! if i was a billionaire i would buy one of these !! that is the TOTAL WAVE OF THE FUTURE. those VTOL flying vehicles are the most awesome models around on yt ...love it. i can only dream. someone pick me up and fly me around in one. but i need the ones with disability capabilities. i use a cane for now and walk slow but i can drive like crazy, and i know darn well i could learn to fly those VTOLS. ive dreamed my future and i seen personal flight vehicles for simplicity for singles. ind of like mr magoo cartoon vehicle but real. i flew to the local grocery store. front and back seats are bench style but the front really only fits 1 comfortably and thats the driver/pilot. back seat is pretty darn close to the front. was great for my bags. but you could seat a couple of young children in it. and the back window in right in back of that. front window is wide. waist high dashboard panel with a 1 handle type joystick style steering(which i was not fond of). basic vertical distance allowed was about 100-150 feet. 100 was plenty. there were no tall buildings where i was located in that dream. i wasnt fond of the landing process. this was a helicopter style flying thing. all white outside with grayish interior. i would name it THE HOME DRONE.

Basics - air volume may be smaller than regular civil aircraft but multiply it by thousands, next increases in potential and kinetic energies compared to autos. You don't just have fender benders far more serious damage and more fatalities. Give it 10 -20 years. And don't get started on autonomous control.

A big advantage of air transportation is that it is going from A to B in a straight line reducing the time and distance considerable compared to roads, all these prototypes need to take in account the capacity to mitigate strong wind current when they occur, flying is not that hard but doing it in the safest possible way is tricky with easy weight vehicles, you don t want to be a leaf in a strong wind

@Tony Wilson But wouldn't they have said the same thing about cars when they first came out? Many like you would have said that it's better to stick with horses and carts. Apart from the fact that they could have been right, the car came and nothing could stop it. You are right but (eventually) there will also be no stopping flying cars. When the batteries ever get good enough, nobody and nothing will stop them, cos that's whats stopping them now...batteries. And we have the tech to deal with them when they do eventually happen. Anti collision tech and ongoing auto pilot, due to satellites. Look at quadcopters, they can't be stopped and flying cars won't be whenever the tech makes it practical.

@Tony Wilson In a hundred years time there will most probably be flying cars, and maybe even the AI "singularity". Enough about flying cars. Have you looked up "O'neill Cylinder"? (spell) You seem to be an interesting person, and so do you think AI will eventually make it possible to build stuff in space completely autonomously with AI and space robotics (maybe in 100 years)? And maybe costing nothing. The Robots could do it all while we sit back and watch and go to the amazing places in space when they are completed (instead of carrying those depressing inflatable pods with us). To make O'neill Cylinders etc. AI and space robots (and making it free) would be the only way to do it otherwise it would cost more money than what's on earth (just for the life support systems etc. if humans do it). Space will be conquered by robots or it won't happen in a big way at all, probably.

If you click on the purple icon to the left, you can see a small prototype ion powered aircraft that carries its power supply! It took a huge increase in lift to weight ratio to lift the power supply with only ions! It will not carry humans anytime soon. To those that are perceptive though , the device may have extremely good potential...

The DroneCar that Airbus and Ehang produced are the perfect flying cars of the future, its a reality. No need to have wheels, wings that need the runways to fly. They are able to land anywhere there is space to accommodate their sizes to land and fly from anywhere. They are useful to avoid massive traffic jams while travelling within urban areas. Hopefully, Ehang is able to produce a four seater DroneCar and that it's propellers are covered and protected. The other flying objects shown here are not realistic.

Isn't it true that inevitably all vehicles will crash? I have seen many of these designed light enough they come equiped with a large parachute to greatly increase the chances of survival if such a thing occures.

The pure electric ones with many motors have relatively simple maintenance compared to thousands of parts in internal combustion engines or turbines in current aircraft. I predict it'll all be fairly safe, plus once transport goes 3d there's a lot more space to avoid collisions unlike on roads plus it won't be humans (the cause of most crashes) for the most part flying these things, plus no dogs, j-walkers, bikes, heavy goods vehicles. The future is bright once humans are not given control of vehicles.
