I have the 18 gauge Milwaukee and it's terrific. As a remodelling contractor it's perfect. Sometimes I'm just doing 3-4 hours of trim for a job or just popping some new baseboards in a bedroom. It's really nice not to bring a compressor around for that. My framing nailer is cordless too. My other guns aren't used often enough to warrant cordless and I have a extremely quite California Air compressor for those.

Been using the Dewalt for a few years as well. I have the 18g and the crown stapler as well. Never had a problem with any of them. Always worked great. Have dropped off ladders more than once and fortunately still, no problems.

I'm glad you did this comparison. I have an abundance of Milwaukee and Dewalt tools so I've been considering the battery trim guns for a while now. And that muzzle size on the Milwaukee is a deal breaker for me as well. Nail placement is paramount in finish work

Totally agree with the verdict on the tips. I had all paslode nailers now on hikoki battery. The tip is so important and they suck on hikoki too! I tried to make my own to match the paslode 16g but kept coming off. Rafter hook is terrible too! They need to put these things through more testing on site before they release them to get rid of these problems

I compared gen1 with gen2 and it’s like day and night. Consistency, feeling of the gun, knowing where the nail will sink and recoil. It’s like day and night. They really improved their tools and I can’t wait for 16 and 15 ga to be available in the Netherlands.

I prefer an angled 16ga. You can shoot 2 1/2" nails I use it to set doors, wood walls, and ceilings never had any problems. Been using a cordless dewalt for the last few weeks works great for me. I still use pneumatic guns for big projects much more productive.

I’ve watched quite a few of your videos and I have to say I have enjoyed most of the content but regarding these electric nail guns I felt that I should make a comment. For the last 33 years I’ve been a finish carpenter and I’ve had to use a number of different kind of nail guns. About 15 years ago I switched over to the Paslode nail guns. I’ve had pretty good success with them and I feel these guns are not only capable of shooting into whatever material I present to them I also like that they are lighter in weight than electric guns like your presenting. The only issue I’ve had with them is they require maintenance and when my workers drop them and I have to repair them I’ve learned to fix them myself. For my money I’m going to stay with the Paslode guns as I still feel they out perform the full electric guns. If you’ve never tried one contact the factory rep and usually they’ll give you a loaner to try to see how it works. They did that for me in the past with the frame nailer that they sell.

One of the tool reviewers on KZbin did "real world" test and tried to 1000 nails in 5 min with a Paslode. He died of carbon monoxide poisoning and the greenhouse gases had his neighborhood under a tornado warning for weeks. Just kidding. Time tested as no other cordless nailer. They just work.

@@stevebengel1346 I had one and the large cylinder cracked in half after about 6 months of use. I cleaned it every 4 canisters, more often than paslode requires in their manual. Not sure what happened but Lowe's offered a refund on the gun so I took it and stayed with pneumatics until the Milwaukee gen 2 Brad nailer came out. Thing is a beast.

Isn't that milwaukee 15 gauge their gen 1 version? The 18 gauge is the gen 2. They haven't come out with the 15 gauge gen 2 yet. Milwaukee has a framing nailer with gen 2 technology and people seem to love it... so I dont think its the nail size, more the technology

Another carpenter I work with just purchased this Milwaukee 15 GA Nailer. It has been good for a couple applications, but I agree with every point made in this video about the Milwaukee. I would add that it is also quite heavy in comparison to the DeWalt. On the other hand, I purchased my DeWalt in November (2020) of last year as my Paslode had died. It’s now March (2021), and the thing keeps on misfiring. And not just every so often, the frequency is about every 3rd or 4th nail. It will refuse to fire a nail for about the same amount of shots, before it picks up the next nail again. I’m about to take it back to the shop to see if I can get it repaired or replaced.

I been using Cordless nailers since years ago, I bought use from ebay 18v dewalt 18g, 16g and 15g used them for years and instantly drop the hose, and few years ago I upgraded to the 20v new line up and I'm use to the noise of the flywheel noise, they feel balanced, I tried the Milwaukee and hated the front nose heavy feel, so stuck to the dewalt for good

I’ve used both. 6,000 Senco 2” nails through my 1st gen Milwaukee & it’s been one of the more flawless tools in my collection. Can’t stand the sound & balance of the Dewalt. The Milwaukee hook is a joke, but I just retrofitted a rafter hook on to it. Had the opposite experience with nail setting. The Dewalt left way too many proud nails. Agree with the commentary about the tip size, but I don’t find that it diminishes the performance for my workflow.

I have the dewalts, 15 and 18. The 15 needs you to pop the casing apart and lube the depth wheel every now and then. The 18 has started to glance off the tip of the nail while firing, sometimes leaving the nails 1/8" proud

Milwaukee 15 ga Gen 2 just came out. It’s amazing. I am installing a 700 sq ft nickel lap ceiling and it’s pounding the nails it with out skipping a beat. Almost 2,000 nails so far not one misfire or jam.

I use the 15 gauge Milwaukee at work and actually use Milwaukee batteries, and it seems to work just fine for me. It sometimes won’t sink all the way in bump fire mode, but I don’t use that very often anyways.

I spent around $1500 getting my cordless framing nailer 18 15 and pin nailer. A lot of money but I have no cords no loud compressor no hoses no forcing owners and neighbors to listen to that 90dba growl at 7:30 in the morning and they have every bit as much power as pneumatic. If you’re waiting for the price to come down keep dreaming companies don’t really lower prices especially not tool companies. Their prices only go up with each generation of tool

@@kennethwalton6 I'm sure it does, I've used them just don't own one. I use my compressor to blow dust away from me and my work, have needed for air in my tires, alot cheaper to have this setup. I'd love to have all cordless tools eventually but for the price of cordless guns it should be indestructible imo and their not. Between them breaking down and having no gun, and maintenance it still isn't logical for me to switch. I hope I can someday tho

I'm liking your channel, good true reviews from a guy in the field. My cordless nailes is jut for light nailing, like touch ups or when I go up on elevators but if I machine nailing half a day or more I prefer the pneumatic over any brand.

Thanks dude! I really needed to hear this, I was close to buying the red 15g. I had 15/18 dewalt.. I was soo excited when I bought them! The 18g though almost immediately became inconsistent countersinking the nails. Spring tool became my best friend lol It was almost as if the drive pin wasn’t hitting the nail correctly so Every time it would leave the double hole W/ the nail head proud. It Became such an annoyance Bc I try to pay the work forward. Yellow 15g was great until we were doing a house (shortly after I bought it) w/extremely thick door jambs (mdf core sandwiched between two pieces of ply= 2-1/4” & pre-finished like kitchen cabinets. Might of been vice versa core/outer layers 🤔) it had so much kickback that I had to keep a hand on the back of it all the time to get the nail to fully sink. If not it would bounce off the work piece fairly easy & leave 1/8-1/4” sticking out 🤯 Then same house we were making jambs out of 5/4 mahogany for a bunch of walk throughs, & like clock work it would not sink the nail fully😳 my boss was turned off by it saying ehh it must not have enough power.. let’s use the paslode 16g, which had 0 issues. Then the 15g clip/slide stopped working correctly 🤦‍♂️ DeWalt factory service center wanted 120& 200 to fix the guns that weren’t more then 1.5 yrs old. (& I get made fun of Bc of how well I take care of my tools lol) so I said 👎🏽 I payed 220 & 250 on sale so that was just not worth it to me. I snatched up a Home Depot red gen2-18g bundle last summer &returned a battery same day so I ended up paying about 160 for it & have been truly enjoying it ever since! I was so close 2 buying a red 15g but said let me hit the tube & c what fellow carpenters have 2say. I trust your word, techniques & dedication! So I will b waiting 4the next gen version 2come out.. using a paslode & pneumatic in the mean time 🤷‍♂️

Milwaukee 15g is still old gen. 18g 2nd gen and framing nailer both work fantastically. Until they upgrade 15ga to 2nd gen. we just have to live by either air or dewalt

I bought a dewalt 15. & 18 on amazon and the 15 died completely after about 8 shots . It’s my first cordless since the pasloade . I was worried neither gun was any good so i returned both guns . considering another one . still looking

I have the original version Dewalt 16g. About 20 years old and, is still going strong. There is no noticeable ramp up time to fire a nail and I can't see a difference in speed from my pneumatics. This thing is bullet proof. I had purchased the hitachi/metabo 16g last year as a backup incase the dewalt finally quit. It was unusable for all the reasons you have mentioned. I even sent it in for service thinking it needed a recharge. They said it was operating as it should. Had to sell it. Love the dewalt but I'm a little a skeptical about the newer model. I don't keep the compressor in the van anymore.

The Hitachi/metabo are the best cordless nailers out. Still no substitute for an air nailer. Flex eel hose and and a new small and quiet Rolaire compressor improve the hose nailer experience.

I mounted a JC10 to a piece of 3/4” plywood, then mounted stealth mounts to the bottom of the plywood. I can then snap that into the Milwaukee pack out rolling dolly. A medium pack out for guns, a slim pack out for nails, with the compressor on top is a super-tidy, mobile setup. 👍🏻

I was also disappointed with the milwaukee nailer 16 GA but with regards to the double hole, I find that the nails aren't stiff enough for their length and the firing pin slides off the nail head as the nail bends going through the timber. I have air fired my gun and it bends a 63mm long 16 gauge nail if anything the gun is too powerful. I find using shorter nails say 38 to 50mm the and removing the protective end gun works ok. Also changing brand of nails has helped heaps, I was having heaps of issues with senco then dewalt and now I use airco, they seem better suited the to gun, not sure why as yet. I agree... The FUEL battery and tool technology isn’t just about a brushed vs brushless tool, the battery absolutely influences the tool. With FUEL technology it allows ridiculous long run time and uses power management tech to achieve this with their red lithium battery lineup. I’m not surprised one bit that this guy(that I totally respect as a carpenter) was blowing out crazy Holes with his gun giving him inconsistent sloppy results with his Dewalt battery setup. Plus that’s a gen 1 nailer and may nor acclimate to a DewWaukee battery setup as well as the newer 18ga brad. I have this gun and run a 2.0 red lithium all day and have no issues...and yeah I’m not a fan of the tip either but you get used to it. The gen 2 15ga will be epic no doubt if it’s anything like the gen 2 brad and finish nailer.

I was going to say something about that. I use all dewalt and my boss uses all Milwaukee. I feel like I get way more life out of my dewalt batteries but I’m pretty sure I’ve seen and read places that dewalt has all of their battery safety measure (circuits and such) in the batteries while Milwaukee has all of that info in the tools themselves. So there might be something with that. I’m not 100% sure. But could make a difference.

This is strange because I had a large trim and door remodel last fall. The only gun that was not cordless was my 15ga. So I bot the fuel 18 v. It worked flawlessly. I’m not sure why after watching this video!!!🤔

I run cordless Ryobi Airforce 18 guage and angled 15 for trim. They are solid guns and more reliable than the Dewalts I used to have. Rarely misfire, but battery hogs and heavy. I just bought the Milwaukee framing nailer last month and it's an absolute beast. The nitrogen cylinder tech sure works on it.

The 15G and 16G milwaukee are still the first generation model and suck just like the first generation 18G. For this reason I still run Cordless Paslodes or Air for 15/16G. The 2nd generation 18G is amazing. I can sink 2inch nails in Maple all day long with it if I need to. Once they update those other nailers they'll be solid. The M18 framer is good, a little heavy if you're coming from Paslode. Also, another guys framing crew was only getting 8000 nails out of the M18 Framers before the strikers went bad and were sent for repair (they had half a dozen guns sent back)

I have the 30⁰ Milwaukee framing nailer and it shoots perfectly fine, it's not the nitrogen cell causing your problem, it's just that generation of the 15 gauge nail gun.

I wish DeWalt or even Milwaukee would come out with both FN & DA style 15-gauge nailers. I have used the flatter angle 15 gauge nails for years; in production the lower angle nailers hold more nails and have to be reloaded slightly less often, while they don’t get into as many places as the steeper angled nailers can, they work great for most all jobs. I have 10s of thousands of the flatter 15s and would love a battery nailer to fit them; right now I am still using air for 15 gauge while having the DeWalt 16 gauge and 18 gauge battery nailers which make life so much easier. While I typically run an electric pancake I have started using the DeWalt 60V compressor on smaller jobs as it works for quick things but just can’t keep up with some jobs.

The Milwaukee Gen 2 15ga. has the smaller tip like the Dewalt. It looks like the Milwaukee you have in the video is the older Gen 1 15ga. nailer. I had the 18ga. Dewalt brad nailer for two weeks. I hated the fly wheel so I sold it and grabbed the Milwaukee. Never been happier.

Great review, i have the Milwaukee, my issue is mainly the nitrogen, i hate having to deal with the cartridges, and have been considering trying the Dewalt specifically for that reason. I have the same issues with hole size it leaves. i thought it was something I've been doing wrong all this time. You have convinced me to try the Dewalt

I had a home owner give me a ryobi 15gauge nailer, it wasn't feeding properly so I lubed it up, he had already bought a new one. So I bought a $15 millwaukee battery adapter and was actually impressed. I plan on buying a m18 15guage nailer and having the ryobi as backup, or when my partner needs a gun so were not passing one back and forth while doing a t&g ceiling or something.

I've had the 18v Senco Fusion guns with Nitrogen technology you talked about for 5-6 years and always felt like the 18g works awesome every time but the 15g is always spongy and never sets nails consistently. Now I know why. Thanks!

I went through 3 of the senco 15 gauge under warranty. The are prone to an electronic malfuction the renders them useless also. At least it was a problem when I was using them a handful of years ago.

Second gen of M18 15GA is not any worse than 18GA one now. I think main issue with first gen was overfilled canister so it caused stronger bounce off the inner return bumper as well as nastier feedback from the forward movement as well so it felt more like shooting a low velocity concrete gun vs cordless nailer. Second gen has that sweet spot of consistent drives AND softer feedback/bump making it easier to hold and nail, they also redone design of the belt hook and nose tip as well to make them more user friendly.

I agree with you. I tried those Milwaukee's, and they have nothing on the Dewalt. I found that I always had to go back with a nail setter with the Milwaukee, which defeats the purpose of having a nail gun.

I thought the huge holes were something I was doing wrong. I agree with the massive tip, weird.... I just bought a Gen 2 18g nailer and the tip is super weird but at least the hole size doesn’t appear to be an issue.

My m18 18guage has been great. With the framing nailers, the funniest thing about comparing these 2 brands, is the relentless mocking Dewalt got for being so heavy, yet the Milwaukee gets lots of praise even though it’s 25-30% heavier.

Use a milwaukee battery. The battery from milwaukee is leaps and bounds better than the dewalt your using. Just because they make adapters doesn't mean the gun will operate the same way. Or any tool for that matter. I'd be interested to see you throw 5ah milwaukee on the 15 gauge and see if it makes a difference.

Hi Michael! I own and use both, and I have to take some exception with your characterization of DeWalt batteries! DeWalt 5.0 amp hour XR batteries are some of the best around. Milwaukee batteries have better gauges, and I like the charging process, especially with the faster chargers. The rubber over mould is nice, for the battery protection, as well as work surfaces. Why oh why DeWalt has stuck with that insipid 3 bar gauge, that won’t even stay lit after the button is pushed, is beyond me. I have had a few issues with Milwaukee batteries over the years, but all in all, they’re pretty reliable. YMMV. Peace!

The Dewalt and Milwaukee batteries are basically exactly the same and will put out the same power, the DeWalt actually uses better Samsung cells with the Milwaukee using LG's

Thr Ryobi 18g nailer beats everyone. Milwaukee removed their Gen 1 off the shelves to reinvent from the ground up, they couldn't compete.

Regarding nail hole size, do you prefer Senco nails over Dewalt nails in your 20V Dewalt gun? The Senco nail head is round; Dewalt is oblong.

Spencer, you have to try the Ryobi 15 gauge air strike.. best gun I own.. it's a nail sinking beast. Best 200$ you will spend. Had every platform to try and for 15 gauge Ryobi is the boss. You won't be disappointed.

That’s because you have a gen 1 15 gauge nailer from milwaukee and a gen 2 18 the first one was bad as well, they just released gen 2 on the 15g Milwaukee it’s amazing you have to get it basically just as good as the 18g but in 15 g

Did you ever experience it shutting down after shooting base quickly..? It has a thermal overload they I kept tripping… the gen 2 Brad gun doesn’t have the issue but the straight and angled both have it… if you really get after a piece of base it will trip…. 17 nails or somewhere in that range. Nailing normally …. Setting doors would trip it around the 11/12 door… you’d have to wait 10 minutes or more for it to work again… Went back to Dewalt…..

My Milwaukee framing mailer certainly has the oomph to drive nails, consistently. The constant whining sound on the dewalt would drive me back to air power.

Ive been thinking of buying a cordless finish nailer. Ive got the GEN2 18g milwaukee and its WONDERFUL . But my 15g pneumatic dewault nailer is freaking FLAWLESS. Its gonna be hard to switch to something that is inferior just to fully be free from my compressor!! AHHHH!

Thank U Spencer for another in depth pro info video! Just a few issues however? I spent all day in glue-ups & Sanding! I hv glue up the wazoo ! I seen your demo & what do I see??? Glue on your hands! Now I hv PTSDCS (post traumatic stress disorder carpenter style)? Also where did you get that table saw stand? How did you jig it up??? Of course I am kidding! Your the best! I believe you got a Milwaukee lemon! I have experienced both guns and threw all my dewalt tools away. The flywheel technology is too slow and way less powerful in my opinion. I own several of the 15 giage Milwaukee and they run like a dream fore and my guys. I really enjoy your content but disagree with this one. Keep up the videos thanks man

Been using the Milwaukee framing nailer almost daily and have only had issues with the paper on the nails jamming the gun. No way I'm using hoses and a compressor ever again.

They have their place. Like for me I’m a plumber and sometimes need to remove a trim piece to complete my job and occasionally replace it when I’m done so just being able to pop a few nails then throw it back in the truck is nice.

I paid $279.00 for tool only for the Milwaukee M18 Fuel 18 gauge Brad nail gun. It came with a free 8 amp HO battery, which I returned. My total price out the door for this amazing technology, which in my opinion is much better than Dewalt 18 gauge Brad nailer...$144.00!

The Milwaukee Fuel Gen 2 18 gauge isn’t! It smokes the Dewalt in all categories. You have no idea how nice it is to pick up a gun and just start nailing...no idea! Don’t have to carry in compressor, hose and guns from shop to area I’m working in, no compressor noise, no waiting to fill with air, no startling noise when the compressor decides to kick in to top off, no hoses, no cords, no cords and hoses twisted together, no disconnecting of the gun, no disconnection of the hose from tank,no need to let all the air out if the tank, don’t have to wind up cords and secure, no need for hose management after finished nailing and don’t have to lug back to shop to put away...there’s just no need to do any of it!

Didn't know I attacked you personally when I mentioned holding out on cordless guns til their made better (not have to service them or break them as often) or til their cheaper in price( I get my 16 gauge around 100$ and 18 gauge at 70$). Not only that but I need the air from my compressor for other various things as well so not quite ready to switch or add to my tools since I have what works already. Your proud I can see but not all of us our ready to go that route quite yet

the 15 ga is not a fine trim gun , 18ga is, i love my m18 15 ga trim gun. just picked up a 30 degree framer, its a lil heavey but its bad ass.

Got the Dewalt 15 a month ago after it was backordered since Black Friday... I wish I'd had that thing years ago - I just love using it. I also really like my DW 20volt 18ga. very precise placement on casing to jamb nailing. I will still drag out the compressor and Senco15gauge for high volume nailing projects. I agree with the comparisons between the tip and driver hole that the Milwaukee leaves vs. the Dewalt. A friend bought the Milwaukee and my first complaint on using it was the funky recoil feel, and secondly the difficulty judging where the nail will enter the material and lastly, it seemed like the hole was always overly large.

Ive had all the main players. Milwaukee was a definite dud. Not enough power and the hole left behind was way larger than needed. Paslode was by far my favorite for power and reliability as well as the size of the guns themselves and left a small hole. The only drawback was the fuel canisters running out or having to warm them up in cold weather. I have been using the Hitachi nailers for a couple of years and has been great. Super reliable and plenty of power with all the features and familiar feel of a pneumatic nailer. But still, nothing will ever take the place of pneumatic finish guns for size and reliability. Especially the size of a brad nailer.

Excellent Review. You covered all the bases very well. Also I am happy I continue to purchase Dewalt since they have worked very well for me this far. The 15 Guage will be my next purchase so this Review was very helpful. I think all tool Manufacturers are going to have Lemons so far I haven't had one with DeWalt.

I have same problem with my 16 Guage makita was very disappointed. But still better when doing one window. I'd rather come back and set nails than drag air compressor, hoses, gun, and maybe extension cord. But when doing bigger jobs still have to get compressor out cause to many nails to set.

I see the dewalt battery in the m18 tool, I know they are rated the same ,but not all batteries are made the same and some companies over rate their batteries. My m18 15 gauge has plenty of ass to use all day and has never had any of the problems you described. When you get into brushless motor technology the speed controllers are very temperamental to voltage, current and "C" ratings or "burst power". For example each 6000 mah 18v battery can very hugely in "burst power" even though 2 different batteries have the same run time and output voltage. A battery with a 100 c rating is going to drive a nail a lot harder than a battery with a 25 c rating.

Man I'm glad I found you on here you're just like me I hate when nail guns leave nails proud it gets under my skin I've had every one of those guns but my favorite one of the cordless is the DeWalt 18 gauge battery operated I use that everyday I love it I just don't wish they made it smaller but can't always get what you want and I do not ever like to use 16 gauge at all truly I'm not a fan of 16 gauge I think they leave too big of nail holes I use 18 for everything pretty much even my crown I know some people think that's stupid but I like it and setting doors I use my 18 gauge and then just pop the hinges and put screws in I'm not a big fan of the 16 gauge trim guns at all

I have the dewalt framing nailer with flywheel and it’s the worst tool I have ever owned. No one battery platform/brand is the answer I guess. Time to mix it up

The biggest thing that I don’t know if you’re aware of here is that 18 gauge is a gen 2 and that 15 gauge is a gen 1. The gen 1 18 gauge nailers were just as bad but Milwaukee perfected the 18 gauge however we have yet to to see a gen 2 15 and 16 gauge out of Milwaukee that is if we ever do
