This M-Tech kukri is a inexpensive copy of the Ontario Kukri. It is made of 440 stainless steel in China and can be bought for around $15 plus shipping as of March 2012 from survival-pax.com .

To be fair their Trailmaster copy isn't that bad once you tune the edge up it works pretty well.

Just a tip for all you would choppers. Look at the spot you want hit, and you'll come pretty close to it nearly every time. That will save a lot of wasted strikes.

This is the only M-Tech I own as I typically stay away from them too. Actually at $15, I bought 2 of these just to make the shipping worth my while. I came across some videos on these and found that they were decent knives for what they are so though I give it a try. So far so good. Full review coming soon.

Interesting. And yeah, it's not the greatest steel, and yeah, sometimes there are quality control issues, but, I'd point out that even higher end knives have quality control issues. Saw a video yesterday where they guy was batoning a large K-Bar and the blade broke. It didn't snap in half but, it looked like something /bit/ out a chunk of it. Was tempered too hard too far up from the edge.

Mystery 440C steel's biggest problem isn't the composition but quality control. It can be quite good if you get lucky. I have seen people beat on them with jack hammers and it doesn't break and I also did see the video here where the blade cracked with just one whack. For $15, it was worth getting just to experiment with it.

same manufacturer with a different brand. S&W like to put their name on a lot of generic knives. They are both copies of the Ontario Kukri which also looks the same but much better quality..

@@idontevenknow7330 1065 is cheap, genius. And 440 is actually decent for this application. I suspect neither of you two idiots has ever chopped through wood - because actually the mtech didn't do badly at all.

How many times could you have sawn through that piece of wood in the same amount of time? You sound winded, lol. Chopping anything is a last resort for me. There aren't any benefits.
