It's a rarer version of a trench jack called a springjack, or a "micro-springjack" since it's telescopic. They are not legal with metal tips because of the sheer power of those springs. EDIT: you officially have a very unique paperweight as a conversation piece.

I never saw a practical use for these (legal issues aside) until I met an old biker (lets call him Jeff). He had tassels on his bar end maybe 10-12" long. One of the other riders happened to have one too many and not only singled out Jeff but in particular his leather tassels. One thing led to another and it tuned out one of the leather tassels had a 1/4" piece of cable running the last 8" or so and he had a quick release that had it in his hands in seconds. It was quite the formidable weapon.

you're definitely supposed to. if you buy a tactical whip, it will be a higher gauge cable within a plastic channel, with a steel ball of a slightly larger diameter soldered onto the striking end. the cable slack can be adjusted from the handle, to add or subtract rigidity, depending on how you prefer to swing it. No matter how you dial it in, however, the force of each swing is distributed to the tip. if you don't put some sort of tip on it, force would be lost as you slowly begin to fray the cable.

Sorry to intrude, but I have made 'tactical" nunchakus using braided steel cord for the connecting strands. Relying on epoxy alone will not do. It will fail. The ends of the steel cord must be closed - either my a weld, a generous wire wrap, or both. THEN, the strand must be anchored to the grip by a steel pin running through the breadth of the cord and handle(s).

It turned out to be nice looking and functional as well. As a retired toolmaker, I would suggest that you add a pair of safety glasses to your daily projects. A small piece of abrasive grit will feel like a rock when it gets between your eye ball and the lid, and starts to scratch the shit out of things before it comes out. I had a small sliver of steel from a carbide burr get around my glasses. During the night it stuck into the eyeball and was raking the upper lid. At 2:30 I was in the emergency room with a bright light in my eye while the good doctor stained it and pulled it out. Two days later I was back to my normal condition. To all who read this, please be careful. You don’t want to throw shit into that fan.

I want one!!! This is WAAAAAAAY better than any night stick or Asp! This would be an instant pain compliance tool! Too bad not a single law enforcement agency would allow it.

How much do you charge for making a whip bro ?

I used an old toilet scrubber handle for one I made, used JB weld to secure it in the bore hole, then dipped the whole handle end in plastidip... on the tip I molded a blob of JB weld, and dipped it in plastidip once it cured... It's basically like getting hit with a wire whip and a golf shot lol

That's a lovely bit of kit. Not for me to say that squaddies wouldn't use that in place of a length of twin and earth back in the day.

Do you sell those? Because that’s a great home protection device.

I do but currently out of stock

A simple rubber garden hose hurts that much and leaves a mark when you whip it properly. What more a cable wire can do?

You make a video and sell your version then meet me back here in a year to see who’s video is better and who’s product is marketable

Saw another video where a guy puts one end into a drill and then heats the cut line with a torch. He slowly twisted to tighten the threads and eventually created a smooth welded end as it popped off.

Looks good , great workmanship, however , from a tactical standpoint the handle should have a pistol like grip or at least a flair so that it is easier to hold and not be pulled from your hand in a situation!

The handle is perfectly fine if you understand it’s construction

The hangle could use some buldge to prevent it from sliding on loose grip?

Great vid, you a are a master of your craft. That whip looks sick. I don’t have access to a workshop or skills to make that… How much to make me one and send to Australia?
