AND YOU BELIEVE THAT THIS IS WHAT LATIN HISTORY IS?! LATINO MEANS LATIN. ONE IS ENGLISH ONE IS ROMANCE LANGUAGE FORM. LATINO IS SINGULAR FOR LATINI WHICH WAS THE VERY FIRST LATIN TRIBE TO EVER EXIST WHICH INHABITED CENTRAL ITALY. HENCE HOW LATINA ITALY GOT THE HISTORICAL LATIN NAME LATINA! LATINI LITERALLY MEANS MORE THAN ONE LATINO AS IT WAS A TRIBE OF MANY LATINO PEOPLE (LATIN PEOPLE) AGAIN HENCE THE PLURAL MORE THAN ONE NAME LATINI. IT IS SOLELY IN THE USA NORTH AMERICA WHERE PEOPLE HAVE NO CLUE WHAT LATINO MEANS AND WHERE THE CULTURE HISTORICALLY COMES FORM WHICH CAN NOT JUST BE MAGICALLY ERASED BY THE NORTH AMERICAN GOVERNMENT SPOONFEEDING ITS CITIZENS HISTORICALLY INACCURATE ETHNICALLY INCORRECT INFORMATION. AND OF COURSE THE ONLY PEOPLE WHO SUPPORT THE MISAPPROPRIATION OF LATINO IDENTITY IS DUN DUN DUN NORTH AMERICANS AND THE FEW WHO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF NORTH AMERICAN IGNORANCE IN SOUTH CENTRAL AMERICA AND MEXICO BECAUSE THEY WANT TO SELL THE “LATIN IMAGE” AS TRENDING PROPAGANDA IN ATTEMPTS TO APPEAR MORE EXOTIC AND MORE DESIRABLE TO PROFIT OFF OF MARKETING THE LATIN CULTURE AS A FASHION TREND BECAUSE THEY BELIEVE IT IS BENEFICIAL TO THEM WHEN DEALING WITH UNEDUCATED USA PEOPLE (Example Shakira who has zero Latin Blood) COLONIZED NATIVE AMERICANS WILL NEVER BE LATINO. BLACKS WILL NEVER BE LATINO. MESTIZOS WILL NEVER BE LATINO. ZAMBOS WILL NEVER BE LATINO. ITS PRETTY SIMPLE TO UNDERSTAND UNLESS YOU ARE DELUSIONAL FROM BEING BRAINWASHED YOUR WHOLE LIFE. IF YOU ARE NOT FROM THE ANCESTORS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE LATIN CULTURE THEN BIG NEWSFLASH YOU ARE NOT LATIN_O . BEING FORCED TO LEARN A LATIN BASED LANGUAGE DOES NOT MAKE YOU LATINO. JUST LIKE SPEAKING ENGLISH DOES NOT MAKE YOU OF BRITISH DESCENT. ETHNICITY IS FROM CULTURAL ORIGIN NOT BECAUSE YOU WHERE CONQUERED BY SOME ONE ELSES ANCESTORS. AGAIN PRETTY SIMPLE TO UNDERSTAND. YOU ARE NOT A CULTURALLY ROOTED CULTURALLY EDUCATED CULTURALLY AWOKEN TRUE LATIN PERSON YOU DO NOT SPEAK FOR US AND YOU DO NOT DECIDE WHAT BEING LATINO MEANS AND WHO BELONGS TO OUR CULTURE AS YOU ANCESTORS ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE ANCIENT ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF LATIN CIVILIZATION. “LATIN” AMERICA HAS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH THE ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF LATIN CULTURE AS IT IS A PLACE THAT LITERALLY ONLY AND SOLELY GOT ITS NAME TO MEAN THE PART OF THE AMERICAS RULED BY LATINO EUROPEAN COUNTRIES. THE TERM LATIN AMERICA AGAIN LITERALLY HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH BEING LATIN BUT BEING CONQUERED BY US LATINS! NORTH AMERICANS CONTINUE TO TRY TO SELL THE THEORY THAT THEY CAN MAGICALLY ERASE HISTORY AND CULTURAL ORIGIN THROUGH GENOCIDAL CULTURAL APPROPRIATION AND CULTURAL THEFT AND CULTURAL RAPE. AND AGAIN THIS WILL NEVER BE REALITY. AND HISPANIC IS LITERALLY LATIN FOR SPAIN NOT THE NATIVE AMERICANS THEY CONQUERED. OR THE COMMON PHRASE IN LATIN AEGRI SOMNIA; A SICK MANS DREAMS. The only time this has happened is with the PRicans who are celebrities and do telenovelas in Mexico (eg. Erick Estrada, Adamari López, Osvaldo Ríos, Luis Roberto Guzmán, Johnny Losada). Outside of people like them, I’ve never heard anyone I know who’s from PR being mistaken from Mexican. Not only do us PRicans sound ENTIRELY different from Mexicans (both when we speak English AND Spanish), but we also have different mannerism and use very different words (you’d never hear a Mexican using the word “coger” used as “to grab”, for example).

Oh mine, I won’t comment. Then again, Asian Latinos/as are nowhere near as rare as media makes them to believe (one of the most prominent ones is Mexican-Japanese actress Barbara Mori, for example). I lived most of my life in Puerto Rico, and the owner of the local Chinese restaurant lived across the street from us. He gave his kids Spanish first names (Chinese last name, of course) because his logic was assimilation around both our neighborhood and in school. His kids are polyglots and I’m still friends with them. And on the topic of Chinese-PRicans, I meet ANOTHER Sino-PRican when I was doing my military service. He was from the other side of PR and his Chinese family was from Guandong.

@Death,the Asian Chick Is a Bro we are all one people of turtle island. My last partner was a mix of Mexican, I don’t know anything but her father was from Guadalajara and her mother is First Nations Cree. Oh my, she was a beautiful woman. She taught me her Mexican culture of what she knows. She also taught me how to say greetings and goodbye in Spanish. I taught her on what I know of my cultures. I taught her how to say greetings in Cree, Ojibwa and French. We parted ways when she moved back to Mexico. We played a lot of sports when we were together, any sport really. She was good at soccer and dancing because of her footwork. I was good a beats and making music, I used to play my acoustic guitar and she would just dance. I taught her how to Jig because where I come from at some social events a “Ho down” ensues. A fiddle, spoons harmonica and guitar. We traveled to world indigenous games in Alberta Canada. She met people from Mexico and had a conversation with them. I visited my cousins from the other side of the country that were there too also. It was beautiful, we exchanged cultures and knowledge about each other. I would totally love to be with her again, but time moves on or sometimes it forces us to move on. Thank you all to responded and liked it, stay strong My brown brothers of turtle island! P.S you all have the best comedians and movies. I grew up on some Americano films. I think that’s how you say it. I just remember this Spanish prison movie with an characters named Chewy and packo. Anyone and everyone in a Latino family has a nickname dude. My cousin is half white so she’s Huerita to my mom. My sister has darker skin than the rest of us so she’s Negrita to my mom. I’m Prisi or Pelona to some family members Bcz my dad’s nickname is Pelon (bald headed) Bcz I look a lot like him and he used to shave his head all the time. My tio Juan Carlos is nicknamed Lucho Bcz he used to do an impression of this character named Lucho. My grandma is Abi instead of Abuela Bcz my older cousin used to not be able to say Abuela. I could go on and on and on. Just one of the many things I love about being Latina Bcz the nicknames are funny and cute.

you'll find that latin nicknames usually depends on the persons name. Like your uncle, juan carlos, I've known of others with the same name back in my native Uruguay and we called them lucho too. Othet examples that I can think of the top of my head would be Fransico's are Pancho's, Ignacio's are Nacho's, Martin's are Tincho's (this may only apply in Uruguay or Argentina, don't know about the other latin nations lol), and Enrique's are Quique's. There's more but I can't remember them all, and it's been a very long time since I've been back home lol. And then yea, we also have the obvious ones that aren't tied to a name like negro/a, Pelado if he's bald lol, Peludo if he's hairy double LoL🤣🤣🤣, gordo, gordito, gorda if they're on the heavy side, Flaco/a if they're skinny lol. All in all I would have to agree, we have the best nicknames 👍

I love all the nicknames too. Apparently, they sometimes come from opposite characteristics too. I had a girlfriend many years ago who was mixed Mexican and French. She was a blue-eyed blonde but she told me her Mexican primos called her "morena." She also said that she had a fat uncle whom people called "flaco." I thought that was clever and funny.

Latin America doesn't exist, I mean, what do you call "Latin American"? To every country from Mexico to Tierra del Fuego in Argentina and Chile? That includes countries that do not speak Latin languages, such as Belize, Suriname or Guyana, without forgetting, practically all the countries of the Caribbean, except Cuba, the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico; to the countries that speak a Latin language? So why is Canada not included? I mean, they speak French, just like Haiti, which they do include when it comes to "Latin America." Then they start with: "They are Hispanic countries", well... with "Hispanics" they refer to countries with languages originating from the Iberian Peninsula, which includes, as anyone who learned a little geography knows, Portugal, and for then, Brazil and Brazilians are also Hispanic; but no, now with that concept they refer to only those who come from countries that speak Spanish. And then Spanish, French, Italians, Romanians, Portuguese, they are also "Latinos" by extension and logic, but then again... the only ones I see referred to as "Latinos" is only Spanish, and not so much. Now you see how all the concepts apply but in the end, none of them apply totally and forcefully?
