So true. I swear he could be talking about my Momma. I never got away with anything. I could get a whooping just for thinking about lying or being sneaky. My favorite aunt is from Mexico City and I always loved going to their house. She's funny but hot-blooded, especially towards my uncle. One time she was mad about something he did and he said the wrong thing to her. She grabbed him by his underwear and tore them off! It got really quiet, then we all burst out laughing at once and their argument was over. She spoke perfect English, but we knew if she raised her voice and started yelling at us heathen kids in Spanish... "RUN!!!"

The story about the hoopty is TRUTH! When I talk School in a rough area, I had a student who was asleep in the hatchback of the family's car when it got carjacked. Sometimes the emergency brake didn't hold and one time the car rolled out of a parking lot, crossed the street and bumped into a lady driving a station wagon. She freaked because she was hit by a car with no driver! It was the Super Sport model that had bucket seats in front instead of bench seat, which made it much easier for Mom to pinch the crap out of my brother and me in the back seat.

My best flying story, and I've flown alot in my life was. Flying from Metro Detroit into Philly, I'm wearing a suit and I have the window seat. The woman who seats next to me is a black woman, also wearing a suit. She has short corn rolls in her hair, dyed blonde. She is an older woman, older than me by probably 20 years. Flight takes off, we're in the air... I fall asleep... Roughly 2 hours into our 3 or 4 hour flight... I wake up... I am resting my head to my right, on the woman's shoulder, and I have been drooling. There is a wet mess and stain on her suit. She sees me waking up and just puts her hand on my face and says I'll never forget it, "It's alright baby, just go back to sleep." And I did! I snuggled her shoulder until we landed in Philly... Never got her name, that was our only interaction, god bless you ma'am.

My ex-husband lives in Mexico and had an African-mexican friend and everyone called him negro (black in spanish) and he didn't get offended at all, actually he didn't respond when you called him by his name.

Mexicans....we have a deep sense and sometimes dark sense of humor...from a young age we get picked on on our defects...but that helps grow some thick skin..where we dont get offended too easily...we just laugh and roast the person roasting us....nothing is off limits. Life is hard...laughing is a way of not caring what the world thinks of you and just laughing it out.

Spot on. Usually starts with your immediate family. My younger brothers used to rag on me & I would nail them every time. By the time I was in 6th grade, the class clown boy came to me the day b4 he was getting braces. I asked why? He said so you could prepare all your jokes. Ie brace, face metal mouth. @@stepheng6514 I guess. 😊 I knew a higher up in our company that got fired because he "called"...insinuated....that a girl was fat, when he was conversing with someone about a size and trying to figure out if it would fit or not...he turned...saw the "fluffy" girl and asked the other person if the upper arms where about the same size as her or smaller. That was it...she left crying...and put a complaint on him for calling her fat in feont of everyone. 😒....seriously....low self esteem people are the most defensive....all she had to do was point all of his flaws right back at him....if one person can throw comments like that, he must be able to stand the comebacks...if not, he will learn not to say anything at all. That is how it is with us. If you are going to throw "shade"...you have better be able to take shade and not complaint. Lol but...yeah...I noticed that there is so much bullying...kids commiting suicide for those reasons...as a kid...I was bulliedlike crazy about me nose, my big eyes, my thin lips...😒...and I never got offended...I looked at them...and saw all their defects...and was wondering if thwy ever saw themselves in the mirror...I did...and I saw no issue....my nose was just like my dads nose, it was cute....I liked what I saw in the mirror. I guess since kids in our culture our own family roast us on our looks and we see that it is not just us that have defects, it is everyone...we hear nicknames, we see friends and family roast each other and it is back and forth thing. Everyone laughs and doesn't take it too serious...the onea that do take it too serious...everyone will spot and target...just for being a whinny baby. I had a cousin that always got roasted because we used to make jokes about him and his mom ( sorry auntie!! 😔) and he would just turn red and we just kept at it. It seems cruel...but life is cruel...we just got to survive it. In mexico filled with classism...a loor or middle class will live a life having to hear people calling you so many things and belittle you for your appearance and class and get away with it. What do you do...cry? Heck no!!!
