You're actually talking about Chicago's "shift to a pop sound" with "Look Away," even though Chicago had been doing pretty much nothing but "pop" music through the entire 1980s. Listen to "Hard to Say I'm Sorry." Pure pop (it only gets redeemed IF the song is played with the "Get Away" coda). "You're the Inspiration?" Remember that one? I seem to remember reading a review that basically said the song should've been called "Where's the Inspiration." "Hard Habit to Break," "I Don't Wanna Live without Your Love," "Will You Still Love Me?"--all pure pop (some detractors would say "pure pap"). The group had a couple of moderate rockers with "Along Comes a Woman" and "Stay the Night" but they were pale imitations of the group's 70s-era classics.

Dude, you REALLY need to work on your segues. "Was "Ebony and Ivory' truly the worst duet ever or does 'Rock Me Amadeus' bring its own unique controversy?" What the holy fork does the second half have to do with the first part? "Rock Me Amadeus" wasn't a duet so why segue from the "worst duet" to a song by a male solo performer?

Right. Hate on a song that became a meme 20 years after it was a hit as if that had anything to do with the song's original success. The song was a pop classic in its day and the "rickroll" phenomenon just helped remind people of its greatness. I really am beginning to wonder who wadded up your shorts while you were wearing them.

I'm a fan of the early Phil Collins and in my humble opinion he jumped the shark after "No jacket required"

Okay. Milli Vanilli's "Girl I'm Gonna Miss You" somehow manages to be "too emotional" AND "lacking real feeling" at the same time. Maybe someone needs to get pull out a thesaurus and look up "emotional" and "feeling" to learn the words are pretty close to synonymous (that means "same meaning"). They do have slight differences but they're close enough in meaning so that the "criticisms" are stupid.

The one I thought was cheesy; we built this city by the starship, we didn't start the fire by billy Joel, rock me Amadeus by Falco, ebony and Ivory by Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson. There are some songs that way out there abracadabra by Steve Miller band, stand back by Stevie Nicks, you can talk to me by Stevie Nicks, 99 luftballoon or 99 red balloons by Nena

Your list is subject to personal taste. Songs from the 80s I can't stand include Tiffany's "I Think We're Alone Now", "Sister Christian" by Night Ranger, and Martika's "Toy Soldier's.

If you're going to use the word "outdated", the word "seem" should be in the present, not the past tense. A song that seems outdated now most assuredly did not seem outdated when it came out, otherwise, it wouldn't have achieved the chart success.

I give up after 13 minutes of (ironic) whining about songs that mostly don't deserve the hate here. The only one I really agree with is "We Built This City." The whole Milli Vanilli catalog merits being naysayed and hated on if you're going to pick on "Girl I'm Gonna Miss You"; of course, you've got to remember there were REAL people singing the songs (as opposed to Rob and Fab's lip-syncing and bouncing around the stage like a couple of kids hopped up after eating their entire stash of Halloween candy as soon as they got home) and they got absolutely NO credit for their performances and saw their actual talent being shredded because of the fakery. OTOH, anyone who knew anything about Frank Farian knew there was more than a little bit of fakery behind Milli Vanilli's very existence. Boney M--Farian's first act--was a precursor to Milli Vanilli but Farian had the sense to hire models who could actually sing in the studio and could perform in front of a live audience although the lily-white Farian was the actual male voice on the group's early albums and he had to hire a Black guy to lipsync the male vocals (at least, initially--when it turned out the guy could sing, he just had to learn to sound more like Farian so the group's live music didn't sound too different from the albums).

Just for the record, "Come On Eileen" by Dexy's Midnight Runners, "Maniac" by Michael Sembello, "Missing You" by John Waite (incidentally, it's the song that absolutely blows--when I can't even stand Tina Turner's version, it's not the singer, it's the song), "Livin' on a Prayer" by Bon Jovi, "Kokomo" by the Beach Boys, "Don't Worry, Be Happy" by Bobby McFerrin, "Get Outta My Dreams, Get Into My Car" by Billy Ocean, "Africa" by Toto (talk about some pretty cringy lyrics--must be why Weezer covered it), "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" by Tears for Fears and "Baby I Love Your Way/Freebird Medley" by Will to Power should be in this list of #1 songs of the 80s that "we" can't stand.
