Considered by many as the greatest female voice in history, Karen Carpenter's story is one of immense talent and profound tragedy. When she needed help the most, her own family turned their backs on her. Together with her brother, she achieved worldwide fame, but her love life was a constant struggle. She passed away in the prime of her youth under mysterious circumstances, but her musical legacy will live on forever. This is the story of the Carpenters and the great tragedy of Karen Carpenter. Karen Anne Carpenter was born on March 2, 1950, in New Haven, Connecticut, with her brother Richard born four years earlier on October 15, 1946. Their parents, Agnes Reuwer and Harold Bertram Carpenter, were not the affectionate type, either with each other or with their children. It was clear that Richard was Agnes's favorite, a fact she did not hide from Karen.

Richard was never jealous of Karen. It's the person narrating this story that claims this. He cared deeply about his sister. He made sure that her fans never got too close in order to hurt her. One fan tried to grab her when they were going into a studio in Las Vegas. Richard was the one who got Karen away from the creep, and put himself between the creep and her. I had the honor of meeting Richard, and his love for his sister shown every time he talked about her. This narrator needs to recheck his story, instead of going off a movie that made her parents out to be bad people. The carpenters cared for each other, even though they rarely said 'I love you'. Loving your family doesn't always have to be said by words. They can also be shown with caring, kindness and motions. Never go on shows that produce fake tails.

This happened to boys in early days as well but by their fathers.

Not related to gender. It may have been the Scapegoat Golden Child dynamic where the parent causes division between siblings so they don't get close. The Scapegoat is the truth teller and has empathy. The Narc parent using everyone and no one cam stand up to them. Facebook has pages for those experiencing this. Was reported at the time Karen had anorexia and not much was known at the time. It would be difficult for families to know how to treat this. It requires professional help.

I wish their family had done more to get her professional help. Not to die of anorexia, I can't believe her brother who made the music and did the harmonies and everything else did Karen did. She was truly a gift from hope that if there is life after death did I get a chance? To hear her again every time that she has been on the radio, especially at Christmas time. I stop everything and listen to the beautiful singing that she did, and she was a pretty dog on good drummer too. Cause that's what she started off doing, but her brother and I hold him partially responsible for not doing enough to make sure she got the right kind of help. I know they tried they tried, but Karen was stubborn. But somebody should have forced her and protected her. She was truly an angelic voice. Absolutely. Fantastic and she was beautiful, beautiful, human being. I wish we could see her again. And I hope someday I'm lucky enough to go to heaven and watch her sing for our creator. Because that will be a joy that I'm looking forward to as I'm looking forward to many other fantastic human voices that have sang such great, great songs. And especially the bass singers got absolutely love the bass singers gia guitar, Lani. That guy is really great. I think he could hit the lowest notes known to man so anyway. She was a delightful person, but emotionally insecure because though their Her already insecurity mother loved both her children, she adored Richard and favored him in many ways. Eating disorders were largely unheard of at that time and I do not think her parents realized how ill Karen was , and how much danger she was in, due to her health. Her marriage was a disaster! She wanted to cancel the wedding, but her Mother would not permit that! Even though she was starting to make some improvements in her health, but her heart was already damaged and she suddenly died, while staying in her parents home. Richard has repeatedly honored his sister and her talents over the years. They were both devoted to each other.

I was a junior in college studying Audio Engineering and doing time on the student run radio station when Karen Carpenter died. In fact, I was the one who had to announce her death on the newscast and I did it with tears streaming down my face as at the time The Carpenters were my favorite vocal group. To think that this lady with the angelic voice suffered so much from her own self worth just breaks my heart even today. When she needed family to help, they closed their eyes and hearts to giving her that help. When she needed her brother to support her project, he put her down. It seems to me that the only person in the industry that cared was Quincy Jones (who is now gone himself) and he knew that her album would sell. That’s the kind of person he was, never judging people personally but supporting the music they made and being a great friend. Karen Carpenter is gone, but she will not be forgotten. A true personal tragedy. A sad footnote to this tragedy is a musical one: some years ago Universal had a fire in one of their storage warehouses that saw hundreds of tapes go up in flames. Among those tapes were the safety copies of The Carpenters albums. We can only pray that Richard has the actual master tapes in a tape vault at his home. I also think it’s time for a revival of The Carpenters to occur as kids today have no idea just how great pop music can actually sound like. The Carpenters would be a great starting point for them to learn.

The true story of her life was only made public after her death. I loved her voice and music. I was a 20 yr old when she died and even now I can remember seeing her in her last performance and just being alarmed at the living breathing skeleton she had become. We were robbed of her music and what she might have become but even more cruelly Karen was robbed of her own mother’s love and acceptance which all little-young and adult daughters need from their mothers! I can’t even begin to imagine denying one of my children my love! I’ve often wondered how Karen’s death affected Richard later in life. He’s hung on by selling their music over the years but he never made it after she died. I’ve often wondered if her mother was even the least bit sad by her death. I doubt it though. If anything I hope guilt ate at her because she deserved it and more! I hope she found the kind of peace in death that she deserved to find here in life. 😢

Here you have one of the most beautiful women in the world not just one of the best female vocalists of all time but extremely talented and attractive young lady. Here’s the catch ! Unfortunately her fate was sealed the moment her mother gave birth to her. How lucky and seriously so unlucky can anyone get. Her family were rotten to the core and she was destroyed by jealousy cruelty neglect smoke and daggers in being totally misunderstood by every fucker she was surrounded by in her bitter sweet life. Such an unlucky woman to have been surrounded by mean grappling users and abusers all of her life. Yes we all love Karen Carpenter and will continue to do so. Strange we all watched it happen and only the very few who tried to help were also told to fuck off. Well you couldn’t make it up but it’s fact. Yes and history does repeat itself it similarly happened to Amy Winehouse perhaps not quite as bad but pretty damn close. Loved the honesty of this video and the way you tell it how it is. I think her mother was a pompous ass . Would it have killed her to say I love you and I'm very proud of you . That's what makes this so sad . She was looking for her mother's love and approval and she never got it . That could have saved her life .😢

She didn’t die under mysterious circumstances she died of anorexia at the age of 32. I was actually her doppelgänger and was called Karen throughout my young adult life because apparently I looked just like her so I know a lot about her.

⭐⭐⭐⭐ It seemed that the lovely Karen Carpenter had it difficult from the beginning of her life, with a wonderful pair of parents. Having said that, Karen had a wonderful mother, which use to tell her that her brother Richard was the talented one, not her. How cruel can a parent be, to treat their own blood in such manner it's beyond me. Karen Carpenter had the voice of an Angel a melodic and unforgettable voice. However, her name didn't appeared on the credits on the records, but her brother's name could be seeing as arranged & orchestrated by Richard Carpenter, Wow! what a sweet brother. Karen Carpenter gone but not forgotten may you R.I.P.

Greed and Ego by her brother, lack of love from her mother, and that disgusting remark from a the newspaper idiot, about her weight, played such an emotional toll on her health .Karen was a beautiful lady with incredible talent. I miss her
