It has taken me literal DECADES to not loathe Chanel No 5. In the past year, I've oddly begun to appreciate it. No, I still have a hard time getting past the gag reflex I have from the aldehydic overdose (it may be reminiscent of having my mouth washed out with soap when I was younger), but once past the initial spray, I can enjoy it. I'm actually considering buying a bottle, which is coming a LONG way round for me! Now...I ordered a small decant of Houbigant Quelques Fleurs to see what the hype was about. Another aldehydic overdose...but also with overwhelmingly unbalanced floral notes in it that don't smell like actual flowers. Yikes!!! Not for me and will never be for me!!! I also blind-bought Choc de Cardin because the bottle was very inexpensive. It may have been a bad bottle, but it has THE skankiest vile patchouli I've ever smelled. I put it away and am considering trying again since air was introduced to the bottle to see if it has improved over the past year. It's kind of reminiscent of uncomposted manure, which is not a pleasant smell. I was hoping for a chocolate patchouli like the name suggested.

This is a fun one Hayley! I’m on Year One of my fragrance journey and have been really surprised how I don’t like many popular fragrances, because they smell different to me than how others describe them. At times it’s a real bummer, for example Velvet Tonka just smells like straight baby powder to me, no other notes at all 🤷♀️ But then the ones I love, I *really* love! I kinda like that some fragrances are polarizing, to me that means they have a strong “point of view” so to speak. Thanks for another great video!!!

Regarding the fragrances mentioned here: 1) Vanille de Tahiti - I also get a feces smell 😂 2) Bianco Latte - While I don't dislike it, I don't like it either. To me, it's just sweet vanilla and there is nothing more to it. I prefer my vanilla perfumes to have some woods, spices or a bit more character. I can see why Bianco latte is so popular but it isn't my cup of tea. Burberry's original was my go-to perfume. I try different fragrances, but I have to wear it around the store before buying or get a sample. Also Giardini di Toscana Christos, which I don't dislike at first but after a while it becomes too overwhelming and even nauseating. About Baccarat Rouge 540, I know that a lot of people have grown tired of it because it's very popular in the fraghead community, but in my personal social circle no one has heard about it, because no one is interested in niche fragrances.

I agree basically with the whole list. I myself started loving Guidance 46, I also started not hating the OG. The worst on the list for me are La vie est belle including also all its flankers. I can‘t take the sickly sweet DNA it has, could not take it a decade ago, but revisiting it lately I still hate it as it makes me nauseous. The other is Erba Pura, for me the opening is nice, but the drydown is way worse. The amberocenide makes it insufferable, not only on me, but everyone else wearing it around me. With Red Door being on there I would for sure add White Diamonds as a contemporary scent of the RD that is equally appalling, ha! Whew! And, not to point out a particular scent (as there are several in the recent year) but I don't like the popcorn note. It throws me off. I feel like sometimes a caramel scent will add too much salt or something and it starts smelling like popcorn to me. I like edible scents and even like caramel/toffee notes but if it goes into popcorn, it's a no for me. The Cirque De Soleil scent is like that and I got some of that from Amore Cafe and just couldn't go there.

I notice vintage perfumes get a lot of hate. While we may not want to smell like our mothers, I think if you're a true fragrance fan you should at least respect that these perfumes were what created the art of modern perfumery, like we wouldn't have gourmands today without Angel, which was the very first gourmand ever. So, while everyone's entitled to their own opinion, I think they should at least respect fragrances like Angel, Alien and Chanel No. 5 as the icons that they are.

Some of these comments are still terrible despite the disclaimer at the beginning. Most of you have novice noses. You're not perfumers, you're probably not even halfway decent hobbyist reviewers. I cannot imagine the height of arrogance it would take to blatantly claim that a famous, groundbreaking, well-regarded perfume is "garbage/disgusting/needs to be banned/inexcusable" or whatever else. Taste is one thing, but making definitive statements as if have the authority or experience to even qualify those claims is absurd. And stunningly narcissistic. I'm not even going to mention which ones I love, am neutral toward, or hate. It would be nuts for me to go as far as to say the ones I dislike are worthless though. Most of you need to stay off Fragrantica or Basenotes. There is an absolute famine of worthwhile writing on Fragrantica especially (Basenotes reviews are subject to moderator's choice to publish or not and undergo a pending state before being approved or denied...so there's that at least) and with most people lacking the ability to see outside their own narrow perspective, it would be prefereable if people learned how to remain detached and fair before being allowed to submit anything. Since maybe 20% or thereabouts are even remotely worth reading, I think something akin to "The Basics of Art Appreciation" should be taught in schools. It could cover a myriad of topics at a glance - music, cuisine, visual art, olfactive art, poetry, etc. Honestly, my kids know not to dump all over someone else's preferences, and approach differences in a more consructive manner. It's not difficult, but clearly most of society had really suboptimal teachers and parents 🙄
