I have seen a comment too often on comic videos , which is ; " I couldn't stop laughing, because i never started " .

Imagine reaching the end of a sentence and realising that the beginning no longer meant what you thought it did! That's a paraprosdokian--a clever, witty statement with a twist. Do watch the video for a whole bunch of paraprosdokians uttered by comedians and other famous people!

I did watch your video today. Every week I wait eagerly for your video as it teaches me a lot about English.

My self crafted paraprosdokian- I love to read books in English language but I am a mediocre writer (Crystal clear from my comment😂, I rely on your videos hoping that one day I become as proficient as you are with the language! )

Paraprosdokians - "NGL had us in the first half"

So amusing. I look forward to your videos on Sundays. You don't know how informative and entertaining they are. It's got to do with the examples that you choose, your presentation and pace of speaking and your voice modulation along with pronunciation and accent..I could just go on and on watching your videos. This video was no exception too. You need to have a certain amount of wit to produce a paraprosdokian. Loved the examples you gave. One day you might even think of compiling all your interesting videos into a book so that I can add your book onto my shelf. Thank you once again. Keep them coming ❤

After hearing so many paraprosdokians, even my genie of creativity came out of the lamp of my mind and created this - People often say, we should not judge the people on the basis of their beauty well we don't but we just judge them by their face colour :)

Is paraprodokian a literary device? Is it similar to pun?
@TheEnglishNut10 ай бұрын
I don't think it's considered a literary device. It may involve a pun but it's not a pun.

I wonder how a Paraprosdokian sometimes acts like an irony. Can one consider the story "Advice To Youth" by Mark Twain to be an explicit show of Paraprosdokians?
@TheEnglishNut10 ай бұрын
Advice to Youth is satire. Paraprosdokians are short sentences or statements with a twist. Can you give me an example of what you felt was a paraprosdokian in Advice to Youth?

@@TheEnglishNut Can sentences like the following be not read in the light of paraprosadokian? [Just asking in order to learn from you] : 1. "Always obey your parents, when they are present. This is the best policy in the long run, because if you don’t, they will make you." 2. "If a person offend you, and you are in doubt as to whether it was intentional or not, do not resort to extreme measures; simply watch your chance and hit him with a brick." 3. "...a truth is not hard to kill, and that a lie well told is immortal." 4. Talking about lying, Mark Twain said: "A final word: begin your practice of this gracious and beautiful art early--begin now. If I had begun earlier, I could have learned now." (Apart from satirical tone, can't one smell paraprosadokian here? What's your take on these lines?)

1 and 2 are kind of like paraprosdokians!
@borossama89410 ай бұрын
@@TheEnglishNutI feel like Paraprosdokians have to have their components be diametrically opposite to each other. One highlights the other which brings out a stark contrast that seems almost like you're playing sleight of hands with words. Kind of like puns but not as egregious.
