I love your reminder to donate to a local organization! I hate donating to Goodwill just so they can make money and their prices are so high for a person in need to go there. I have found a local charity that lets people in need just go in and get what they need, without paying anything!!!

My husband and I used to volunteer at a church that had a free clothing ministry in their basement. It felt so good to help people find what they needed for their family. Or to direct a fire victim to the church to help them replace clothing for their family. Ruth

I was given a tour of a goodwill warehouse years ago. Some of the work they’re doing is incredible. It isn’t just about inexpensive home goods. Most of their employees are disadvantaged or disabled. The facility had a mechanics garage in the back who would perform free services on employee vehicles like oil changes and tire rotations so these employees could have reliable transportation. Just one example that truly impressed me. There were over 100 workers in that facility whose needs were all taken into account. In rural Pennsylvania, these opportunities just don’t exist anywhere else locally.

I recently got 2 lamps from goodwill and made them over. I just painted the base gold and covered the lampshades with material to match my decor. They weren't exact matches for each other, but since they were going on nightstands, they just needed to be close. And the really perfect thing is they both had a drawstring switch, which is what I was really looking for. I spent like $18 total to make over 2 lamps!! ❤❤

Yes put it in your cart and then do a cart purge just before checking out! I do this to really make sure I want it, too give it a second look too check for damage and to stay within my thrifting budget!

I do the same. I spend my time walking around giving myself time to see if I REALLY want something or if the impulse has worn off. Then also when I have everything together I can make those tough decisions. Maybe I find something similar I like better. Or like something more once I find other things that can go with it. I'd rather grab it, change my mind and put it back than decide I actually do want something only to find it's gone.

There was a long/narrow basket that I liked and kept seeing at my savers…it was $3 and was a little dirty but baskets that aren’t painted or dyed are really easy to wash and dry outside on a sunny day. Brought it home, cleaned it up and it’s one of my favorite baskets, totally worth the effort.

I have been a thrifter my entire life. More than the first half out of necessity. The second half and counting because knowing how much the most expensive local thrift store charges in comparison to even dollar general and target makes it a no brainer. All of your tips are valid and you present them in an appealing way. 😊 The only thing that I would add is always check places in the store that are good hiding places. Employees hide stuff for someone else to come purchase . Especially if the store prohibits them from shopping there on days that they work. Customers often hide things with certain colored tags and come back to purchase on the day that color is discounted the most. Clothing hanging on circular racks, along the walls or in aisles back to back and close together make good hiding spots. Inside containers and boxes, that are not popular or searched for (who can resist a reasonably priced picnic basket?)on the tip top shelf are good places. Nooks and crannies that have things like a mirror or standalone bookcase partially in front of them never fail to have a fantastic score. Sometimes things are hidden in plain sight such as in the middle of an aisle that has mostly unwanted items like random photo albums or dusty glasses and common cases that you see in a quick glance as you are walking by. If you actually go down the aisle and pay attention you will see things that kind of blend in behind and next to the boring things. Bonus tips: (1) if the item you are considering has a tag with a color not shown on the board advertising discounts it might be taken from your cart when your back is turned. (2) no matter how In expensive something is if you do not know what purpose it will serve when you purchased it 95% of the time it will become wasted money. You kind of mentioned this. It’s a lesson that takes a lot of people a long time to learn and some people never learn. Thinking things like so and do might want this and I can find a use for this and even worse this is too good of a bargain to not buy usually end with that item collecting dust at your house, being re-donated or thrown away. If you buy something like that once a week because it’s only $5 in a couple of years that’s rent, a car note or a mini vacation. Happy thrifting !

Love all your content! Regarding pillows and stuffed animals- I simply wash pillows, cover and insert, in hot, soapy water in my washing machine, then dry on hot in the dryer. Some colors, like red, might not tolerate the hot water, nor would delicate fabrics, but I've had great success and feel confident in the cleanliness after. Stuffed animals, unless they are the decor type with many materials, I wash in warm water, with sanitizing soap, then AIR tumble in the dryer. (Putting the stuffies in pillow cases to protect them, wash and dry.) Avoid high temps in the dryer, which will often melt the fur.

Loved this video. My friend and I have been thrifting more than 40 years. When we don't find anything we just laugh and say look how much money we saved. Another thing to consider is if they have discounts-seniors. Certain stores have certain days. Also on my fridge is the sequence of colors that the store reduces their prices on. When my niece used to go with me she would ask what something was or what it was used for. I would tell her to think more along the lines of what it could become. Wear comfortable shoes and make a day of it.

Thrift stores are usually much cheaper. Both stores are definitely different. Location is key. You are right. That jug was cool!! The baskets are good and even better when painted. This was SO much fun and SO VERY timely! I'll be 66 this Saturday 🎉 and I'm moving from the southern California desert to northwest Indiana in a couple months and I'm totally starting over!! I'm only taking the things that I totally love and everything else will be replaced. The thrift stores back there are absolutely 🤯 mind blowing!! ​@@Whiskeyandwhit thank you, friend. I had a CT scan yesterday to see what was causing my sinus infections and severe migraines. I didn't get good news. I was told that I have a tumor on my left temperal lobe, they didn't tell me the size, they just said that they caught it early enough that they are going to try medication first which is some kind of steroid that starts now (I have the medication) and get me an appointment with a Neurosurgeon ASAP.

I enjoy your videos so much. You are so talented and down to earth. I learn so much from you. What I look forward to spring the most is the weather getting warm enough for me to sit on my front porch in the sun with some iced tea or lemonade and look at all the new freshness of grass, trees, my flowers and smell the lilacs in the front yard. Watch my dog chase bugs and my cats soaking up the sun.

I'm in Florida so I'm looking forward to fall. 😂 My husband and I just went to the COOLEST PLACE! It's called an antique mall but it's really half antique store and half thrift store and has AMAZING things from the Disney and Universal parks and hotels! Anyone in central Florida I highly recommend checking out the Lakeland Antique Mall. It has props from events like Universal Halloween Horror Nights and Disney's birthday celebrations. It is massive and so much fun!
