What a sweet little video and I must say I have to chuckle at some peoples comments about store bought binding vs homemade amongst other things you should or should not do. Who are these people? The sewing cave police? It's a creative outlet and like any other creative outlet once you've got the basics you're free to do as you please. Go Team!

Someone once told me that "people would complain if their cereal was wet". This is your channel so you sew and/or model how you want, or however you are comfortable. I also spent all day with my husband. We both love to go thrifting, so spent several hours together doing that, mostly in pouring rain! Now, he is cooking me a nice supper! It is so nice to have wonderful, supportive husbands. Come back soon!

Always love question & answer videos, this one was excellent. The minute you said your IDENTITY would change to sewing, it hit me. I've been trying to adjust to retirement for the past 9 months and loosing my identity from the job was the problem. Now I, too, can say my identity is sewing. I've always done it, love it and want to use up a whole bedroom full of fabric in my lifetime. Thanks for turning on my lightbulb ! Next...if we want you to stand still and pose, we can just hit PAUSE. Don't change anything. Love the McCall's vintage journal...may even make some from my old patterns. Thanks for a great video; enjoyed seeing you and Brad.

Cute video out in the woods today🎶🎵🎶🎵🎵🎶hope you had your “TEDDYBEARS PICNIC” Too!! Looks like better weather than I can see out my window! Its trying to rain and snow here today... ugh eh? Nice to have hubby with us, he's a sweetheart to help you like he does.. cute too! santa claus brought me my first Singer hand crank sewing machine when I was about 8 yrs old! sewed doll clothes until high school where I really then was allowed to use my mothers treadle Singer to make the wool lined three piece suit for home ec class. Sewd on hand me down machines for years.. got too busy raising kids work, etc stopped sewing..until I got my Janome memory Craft in 1999. Sewed for the little ones..boys.. a bit and some things for myself but had a stroke in 2007 and sewing with only one hand just seemed like it would be impossible, but I missed it so much, began to try again since there was a great grandchild on the way! Lo and behold,,.. I was able to make several cute things for that baby.!!! Then decided I MUST LEARN TO QUILT... THANKS TO KZbin..I did just thatJenny at missouri star helped a lot too! Now with inspiration from Vivmom and others here on youtube Im learning all over again ..trying to get organized first then lookout! ill be off and sewing everthing I can get my hands on! Thanks again Viv for sharing and helping to get me inspired you are justso sweet and fun to be together with each day! Love ya! BEST..CHERYL🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦

Enjoyed this scenic video… What a blessing to have been able to home school your children…And as the last one sets his sights on the future, it’s a mega blessing to have a supportive hubby to help anchor you as you guys prepare for the next chapter. Thankfully, you’ve set the stage as a vlogger. Hopefully, if you have peace about it, in time, you will open a closet store on Etsy to sell select pieces that viewers have ‘raved’ about…;+)…i.e. the Easter dress…the floral maxi…a little bit of Neiman Marcus by a personal designer… Best regards to you and the fam… Praises to God for His many Blessings… Peace.

You are the best. I agree with Ms. LaPlante's comment below, you model your clothes perfectly, just like a runway model. We should see how they move and fit. You also have a great eye for fabric and color. You pick what you like and what you like coordinates with everything else you have in your closet or your fabric stash. That's the fun of sewing. Everything we make for ourselves is Haute Couture. How wonderful is that? Wonderful video in the woods. Looking forward to seeing what you make next. Happy sewing to you and to everyone watching your great videos.

This is the BEST video EVER!!! Brad, you are a total sweetheart to do this with Viv. If I was to take Jerry out into our yard (also woods), he would be blowing off the patio or moving dirt around with his tractor. I don't think he could ever sit still that long. We may have to try it sometime though. I may have to wait until he retires in November. Such fun! Jerry watched this one with me.

Sell your clothes at a consignment shop. People will pay a lot of money for handmade clothes. Many years ago, I sold blouses and skirts for $15 each at craft shows. That was $5 for materials and $10 an hour for labor. I had streamlined my patterns to make every garment within an hour. Over time, I had quite a fan club that purchased from me on a regular basis. You have a timeless style that would do very well.

Thanks to you & Brad for taking us along to the woods. It was a nice unexpected treat. Viv, it is a balancing act for you when you are modeling your makes for us. You want to show us the movement of the fabric, the pattern on the fabric & the design of the garment. This is all while you are trying to model your makes in a timed manner. Standing still would eat up your time. I choose to think you are enthusiastic rather than hyper.

"Stitching in in in invisibly" re: the Vogue pattern: I have a stitch on my machine used to make invisible hems that I just love, and once you get the hang of it, is quick and easy to do. It looks like 4 straight stitches and a zig-zag repeat. When sewing your hem, only the tip of the zig-zag catches your fabric. So that when you turn the garment right side out and press, all you see is tiny vertical evenly spaced stitches for a hem. Practically "invisible".

I have a Montgomery Ward Signature Zig-Zag sewing machine 266A. I don't know what year that is. Somewhere in the 1960's? I own a lot of machines, including two that sew leather and it's still my favorite machine. I bought it at a Thrift Store in 1995/96 for $15 and all it needed was a belt.

I like the way you do the necklines of your clothing. Many of the inter-facing I've ever done usually requires a top-stitch to keep them from popping out while wearing the garment. Too much work for me! Kudos on your Homeschooling!! I have been helping a friend (whom I met at my church) with her girls when she decided to start homeschooling. It can be tougher than people think to start. They are in their second year and it's getting easier, but definitely a blessing.

We were over the moon for UVA. It was a wild ride, though! Thanks for the positive feedback about my filming. I’ve been getting some ...um... “constructive criticism” lately. One woman wrote about how off-putting I am to watch, that I ramble and don’t stay on topic. I went back to answer her and she’d removed her comment so not sure what that means. I do want to improve so I don’t mind being given suggestions! Then again, I pretty much default to the way I like doing things.😄

I had to stop and tell you - my 30 year old Pfaff 7570 is having some feed dog problems and is headed to the shop. My in-laws got me a Featherweight that I've really never used - but you inspired me! I got it out tonight and put in a zipper and it sewed BEAUTIFULLY! I couldn't believe what a nice stitch it gave me. I'm going to finish up 2 projects with it until my other machine comes back, hopefully fixed. And I think you shouldn't stand still! I love the way you model what you've made. You have to show how it moves. Can't wait to see what you do for Easter. I made one dress and am going to finish another (on the Featherweight, woo-hoo!) and then decide. Oh, the wonderfulness of options when you sew . . .

Yay Jen!! You’re going to love that little Featherweight, I predict. It’s just simple and solid. The buttonhole attachment is a bit of a harangue, but heck, it sews beautiful buttonholes. It’ll get you through until your Pfaff comes home all shipshape. Have fun!!😄

Also - with regard to identity - it's just hard. No way around it, it seems like just about the time your kids are really fun to be around, they leave! I hope yours are close by and visit often. Mine are all over the place, save one who lives with us now. I love having her here - it's going to be hard when she buys her own house soon. I'm hoping I can get them all eventually to live within a couple of hours of us rather than on opposite ends of the continent (literally!). When being a stay-home mom has been your career for 20+ years, it's a huge adjustment to be a stay-home wife. I don't think we all need jobs, but we do need something to do. You've been smart to start your channel and keep sewing. It benefits you but really benefits us even more. I'm so glad you share your life and your makes with us.

Aww thanks Jen. I’ve been wanting to throw in the towel with the channel after some stinging comments. It’s risky to put oneself out there, when I’m already hard on myself and my accomplishments. We shall see...

You’re absolutely adorable! I had such trouble when my youngest (also named Colin) graduated high school- he’s 23 now. I had been homeschooling since my oldest was 5 years old! It was difficult for a while. As a homeschool mom, it had become a large part of my identity. I have to say that I adore how you dance around in your monthly makes! 😊 your joy is just contagious! It would be so sad to try and blanket that enthusiasm. Another wonderful video. Thank you, for sharing your joy with us. God bless you and your family.

I agree. Keep doing what you've been doing. If people are critical, they don't have to watch. You have a light and you make us smile when you let your personality shine through! Your Brad reminds me of my hubby. He's so kind and helpful. God bless and please keep them coming. ❤

Thanks Melissa, how sweet! I’m learning more and more to let the critical (or downright awful) comments roll off. I try to find the humor in them. Mostly everyone is kind, encouraging and very dear, and I find myself thinking I’m not worthy! Thanks again for writing.🌺

So nice to see you both - invisible stitching is a hand stitch, a bit difficult to explain but it's sewn so that is doesn't show, as the name suggests. Btw, you don't move around too much in your videos in my opinion!

CONGRATULATIONS, UVA!🏀🎉 We were at a birthday party when Hub watched the end of the Auburn- UVA game. I told the family “I know a gal who’s screaming and celebrating right now, in Virginia!” And BTW my daughter-in-law’s mother brought a box of patterns to give me and THEY WERE ALL IN MY SIZE! 👍🏼😂😂😂 So I’m excited to get back home and SEW! I love so many of the comments below! “It’s your video”, you do what you want and however you want to do it! LOL😂 Yes! And I too enjoyed you and your hubby together in the woods, it’s beautiful! And about the answering the comments- because I knew you’d just GAIN viewers I’ve ALWAYS thought the day would come.😉 We write a few words or lines, and you have to multiply yours by 300 already?! Noooooo Waaaaaay!!😂 Keep smilin’! Happy Spring!🌷

Your such a cute couple. My husband was a gem but I doubt if he would have been sweet enough to model the things I made for him or taken me on a special trip to my favorite fabric store. God bless.

Boy I'm so glad I found you! We've just "launched" the last two of the three out of our homeschool and I've been kind of listlessly wondering through my next phase. I've been taking piano lessons for 3 years now, and it's fun - mostly because our oldest daughter is my instructor. BUT I've picked up my sewing last year, which I did when the kids were little, and have been muddling through. YOU my dear, have been such a blessing to my sanity! I've been binge watching your station for about 3 days now … and you know what? You're very encouraging … and I think I just might be able to get some spring back in my creative legs!

Oh Robyn, this just made my day/night. Thank you so much!! That disequilibrium when the household gets shaken up can do a number on us. It gives me great comfort to know I’m not alone. Sewing has swooped in like a little lifesaver for me. It’s got it all: dreaming, scheming, creating, and then that sense of accomplishment. Plus you improve every time you try it. What’s not to love? (ok, not counting when EVERYTHING goes wrong.) Piano lessons sound fabulous! Wishing you much success - also with your sewing, too, if course!😄💕
