Where have your videos been all my life? Seriously, I needed this video like... 55 years ago. Grew up having my hair treated as a problem for my parents to solve as quickly and cheaply as possible. That continued on into adulthood, since I had no other mental model for it, and having it shaved off in military basic training gave me an option to fall back on occasionally over the next few decades. Didn't start to see my hair differently until I was in my late 40s, and it wasn't until I was in my 50s and growing it long while in covid lockdown that I really started making an effort to take care of it properly. So much I have to learn, though. Started watching your channel a month or two ago and have been picking up all kinds of info, and this video is packed with even more that I didn't know. Thank you!

I really learned about the way hair changes as I've gotten more silver! My silvers need moisture, but moisture that makes my silver happy overloads my non-silvers. My solution, use a deep conditioner for up to 10 minutes whenever I wash but mix in aittle of Botanika The Mender protein treatment, and I don't use a leave in conditioner. Gives both my silvers and non-silvers what they need.

Your hair is stunning! To be honest, I think all of these steps apply to all hair types. I have wavy hair that has been dreadlocked for over ten years. I noticed that as my hair went grey, the texture completely changed so I started looking into WHY I was suddenly cursed with frizzy locs. I now sleep with a satin bonnet, I have a better wash routine, I put product in my hair and my locs look SO much better as a result!

Can we talk about the different types of protein for hair? My hair is protein sensitive, it will tolerate some proteins, and hates the others. For example: Aveda Be Curly curl enhancer has some protein, my hair loves it. Curlsmith, NYM, VERB products with protein, my hair hates... Is there a way to distinguish what types of proteins are better suited for those with protein sensitivity?

This is like a “greatest hits video!” The advice on the brushing is so spot on, probably one of the most important things Did you ever cover neck hair and why is such an issue? I don’t recall. All I know is, my canopy is easier to tame than my neck hair, sometimes I have to use products made for coily hair to tame it. If I do the pineapple, if I use a bonnet makes no difference. P.S. As you get older, hair can be high porosity for no reason other than age.

Question: Is white (grey, platinum, silver, glitter, whatever euphemism you want) more likely to higher porosity? Any other likely characteristics? Asking for a friend. 😜
@raraavis77823 жыл бұрын
Many people report them to be more wiry, although personally, I can't confirm that. I have quite a lot of white at age 41 and don't notice a difference in texture or wave pattern. I have thick 'horsehair' to begin with, though. Maybe it's different for people with fine hair.
@EmmaLemmon3 жыл бұрын
My white hairs seem slightly more porous than the others. They are concentrated more at the front/temples so I don't know if that makes a difference. Using more product and oil in that area seems to help a lot to prevent them fluffing out too much. My hair is fine and much better condition since I stopped dying it, i have ringlets again 😁
@JuliaJohnGirl3 жыл бұрын
@@raraavis7782 I think mine used to be like that (I would feel it when individual hairs fell out and hit my shoulder) but either I don’t notice it anymore or it’s less wiry. I keep wondering if I should automatically assume that it is dryer, more fragile, or more porous now that it is mostly naturally white, or if I should keep trying to “listen” to it. I swear that my ears still work pretty good, but my ability to discern the needs of my hair has me feeling like my “hearing” abilities are kaput.

This video was so good! Lots of good reminders on the days where I feel frustrated. Definitely a few pointers that I needed to get back to working on. However, I will say that I used to live for styling right-side-up, mostly b/c my hair is THICK and upside-down hurts my back/neck. Also, after watching a lot of your videos on proper Denman styling, I had a great routine! Then, I chopped off like, 7 inches! And upside-down was a option again! What I’ve learned in order to utilize upside down styling are a few things: when you detangle, don’t brush ALL of your hair forward, brush some to the sides, too. Use the Denman to distribute styling cream/product and flip some tension where you need to. And then, MOVE. Scrunch up side down. Turn your head sideways, spray more water, SHAKE, scrunch. Repeat. Right-side up/side to side, and then upside down one more time for good measure. This avoids a lot of that weird wonky back rats nest. I can see how this would still not be ideal for thinner hair. Also, I’ve noticed as my hair starts to grow back, it’s more difficult to avoid some weird part stuff toward the back. It will still look good, but NOT quite how I’d like. YMMV.

My daughter is named Bella! (she's 23, so I picked the name first!) and of course I'm a curly haired twilight fan! Can't wait to hear what you think of Midnight Sun!! Needed a refresher on your tips....hair has been looking ratchet. Love ya!!

My worst hair days are usually my work days since it's so easy to get sweaty/warm (especially with wearing face masks) & I'm in a dim lit room all day (massage therapist), so I tend to not be as worried what I look like & have my hair up in whatever ways I can keep all the hairs from being on my face or neck. I will say that I tend to do mostly air drying lately with having less time to devote to blow drying or I don't want to be noisy if the rest of the household is still sleeping. But considering that fact, hair still is doing better on those no blow days than they ever did before I found your channel.

I love your videos! I’ve always used a wide tooth comb on my hair, but switching to using as soft bristle brush has been a huge on my curl definition with a lot less frizz. I just need a low dryer and diffuser!!

Ive been watching all your videos, and today you revealed a big 'ah ha' moment for me!!!! I have low density hair!!!! I had no idea, I thought you could see my scalp cause I have fine hair. Especially when I put it in a pony tail, you can see all the sides of my scalp! I did not know about density! Please do your own style video for low density curls!!

I can't thank you enough for all the laughs and very very helpful tips you have provided. I still need so much help unfortunately in figuring out what kind of hair problems I have. One of many questions I have are protective styles safe for course textured hair like buns and braids or using stuff like flex rods?

Wow! Loved this video! Watched while I was diffusing 😉. I have waist length waves and get my best results with Spisha's method of diffusing with my air gently bunched up while drying. I lay on my back with my hair draped off the edge of the bed bunched on my bench which sits at the foot of my bed. Diffuser roots first and wow! I have Marida hair! Thanks for all the great tips!

All the tips are really helpful! I do have a major problem with my curls and I have looked everywhere for and answer! I hope you can help! Unfortunately for some reason my curls start like 2 inches from my roots and this always creates misshaped curls and frizz in the layers around my face -the shortest layer- and of course volume is very hard to achieve if the first two inches of my hair are relatively strainght!! any tips on how to enhance curls around the root area??

So good to see you again 🥰 Could you please do a video/styling routine on someone who has very fine hair? Because of all you lovely KZbinrs I no longer have high porosity hair. I just have a hard time finding advice for very fine hair. I have done a lot of trial and error but would love to hear your advice.

Can you do a video on styling perms? I just got one and am lost. It seems like some of your tips for natural curls don't apply to perms...or I'm just doing a terrible job. I don't expect my hair to look as good as natural curls but I'm hoping for at least some volume
