My hair is like Mels. I use rollers and it comes out really smooth. Thats my secret bcz blow drying makes my hair look frizzy.
@tiahnarodriguez3809 Жыл бұрын
@@rimuruslime23 The reason for that is because blow drying makes the hair move around, so it frizzes more easily compared to a roller set which keeps your hair in place while it dries. I blow dry my hair on high heat, but low air and it gets pretty smooth.

I remember when keratin treatment was a craze back in the days and almost every salon always recommended you doing it. The funniest (worst) part about is that they were trying to sell the story that it can help your curls. Not saying that "help" meant your curls being ruined hence why it would be "fixed" because you would have "normal" hair after it. It was always like "You should do keratin treatment it can help your hair. / Have you ever consider doing keratin treatment? / Doing keratin treatment can FIX your hair in helping it reset." I'm glad I never gave into this, but it is still funny to me when I remember this period of time. Some hair salons still try to sell this story.

I used to get a silky blowout and that could last a week. I rarely did it but always loved when I did. Then one day no more. Wouldn't even last an hour. Roots got poofy fast and body didn't lay flat. The oil is used as a scalp treatment in this application. Just put it on the scalp and wrap up your hair to keep in the heat. You can leave on for 10 mins, 30mins, 3hrs or as long as you're comfy. I put it on and leave it overnight every 5/6 days when I wash my hair. I also put it on all of my hair, not just the scalp. Some oils are heavier than others and, some hair doesn't need as much. Just play with it on your scalp. Do sections, use a little and lightly rub it all over to start.

@corn in your poop Hey, thank you for your reply. It started in the third year. I was so, so happy with my straight beautiful hair it was like the answer to my prayers. I always did the Brazilian treatment in an expensive, well reviewed salon with the same professional, so I'm not sure what happened, really. I ended up going to a dermatologist and finally getting rid of that bold spot. Imagine getting injections straight in your scalp? That wasn't fun. A billion dollars later, it's still not at 100%. Now, I've been on a curly hair journey for a year and starting to embrace my natural hair. And by the way, my curl pattern is not where it used to be at all. I put in buns or braids to get waves and looser curls after straightening - it just makes my hair look better with all the natural poof it has.. it's currently "straight" for like the 7th time this year 😂 I used to go to a hairdresser in my home city to get a straight cut because I couldn't find anyone I trusted to cut my hair curly. Every time I went in, they would try and offer me a keratin treatment and I'd refuse. They didn't understand the concept of someone liking their hair naturally curly. It has progressively become more frizzy and now unfortunately it is like a Brillo pad and smoothing it is impossible, I have to learn to live with it but it is hard because I look a mess. 😔 I get a good 5cm trim every 8 weeks minimum, only heat diffuse on the lowest setting, apart from once a month I try blow drying with no straighteners, my hair is 40% grey with no treatment or colour. Nothing could make it smooth and glossy and in cold weather, it looks wet in five minutes and drys to a filthy frizz and looks so ugly. About 9 months ago I got so fed up with it, I had it cut into a very very short pixie. Everyone says how much it suits me as I am very petite. But I'm getting bored with it and want to grow it long again and try some of the new products on the market. I'm 52 now and so want beautiful hair again like when I was younger. @Lucrece @Anna Maria Yes ladies, thank you for asking the wonderful Mel to do the occasional video on post-menopausal hair! (And by that I mean to include perimenopausal hair--basically, hair over 40!). I trust her more than any other hair KZbinr or indeed, real-life stylist. I would love to hear her tackle common problems with aging hair: hormonal curl pattern changes; terminal dryness that seems not to yield to *any* treatments; the major life decision that is grey hair (color it? blend the grey in? go silver or white?); the distinctive problems presented by grey hair if you decide to keep it natural (especially what might be termed "textural diversity": the fact that your grey strands are often quite sturdy and coarse, while your non-grey strands are fine and delicate); the psychological trauma of realizing that what you have always viewed as an impossibly frumpy and old-fashioned hairstyle, aka, the "grandma perm" or, for naturally curly ladies, "grandma short curls"--has a lot to recommend it (wash-and-go, minimal upkeep, arthritis-friendly, effective camouflage for thinning hair [curls both add volume *and* blur the edges at which scalp and hair meet, thus tricking the eye]. Help us Mel!

Spot on Mel! I did Keratin Treatment for 3 years. It took over a year to get my hair back to its original curl. Remember, when they do the keratin treatment, it’s all the way to the root. So yea, over a year. And I love love love using the k18 in conjunction with some of the olaplex products. So if I use k18 today, next time I wash, I’ll use olaplex shampoo and conditioner. Works great! And makes sense to use that bond over that peptide. :)
@samwtnw2 жыл бұрын
did you experience more hair loss than usual during the treatment?
@joannechris7980 Жыл бұрын
During the keratin treatment? No, what I did experience was an irritated scalp and painful acne like welts that took forever to go away. And then when I stopped the treatments, I had a lot of damage and weird hair. Took over a year for my curls to come back to like before, however my hair was still in bad shape. Even with the monthly trim. I found Mel, and everything she suggested helped. Then the olaplex. That helped but still, a lot of heavy product, irritates my scalp. Like when your face breaks out from too much of……something. But K18! The bomb. As soon as I feel like I need it, I just do it. And I still use the olaplex shampoo n conditioner on the other days. I’ve also gone through menopause, but that was 10 years ago, before any of this. I don’t know if it was a factor. When I got the bumps, I did notice increased hair loss. I think it was inflammation from irritation. Keratin treatments require lots of heat, and I don’t care what “stuff” your putting in your hair, the heat kills. But I still use my hair dryer and sometimes straight iron when I want a straight day. Hahaha. Sorry long story, but felt the need to explain.

When I detangle my wet hair I only do it with the conditioner on, but still it takes a long time and feels painful. When I google whether to brush wet or dry curly hair the only thing that comes up is that it is very damaging for curly hair to be brushed dry. Now when I change the search and remove curly, so: whether to brush hair dry or wet? the results will explain that wet hair is more prone to damage because the protein bonds change and they are more fragile, therefor it is safer to detangle dry hair. Why this scientific explanations should not apply to curly hair? I hope you find the topic interesting! Keep up the good work, you literally saved and "made" my hair!

Lots and lots of love to you mell! ❤️ I am 18 and i had really curly hair but I straighten it so much throughout my life and had no idea about styling ( just oiling, shampooing) which was good but still the straighting has damaged my hair so much it seems to forget everything it was before. I am transitioning since last 5 months just doing what all the initial steps and waiting patiently. 🤞🏻

I don’t usually use L’Oréal products, but they have a spray I think it’s called Sleek it, heat protectant spray and OMG night and day how silky it makes my hair when I straighten/blow it out

Great video! I’m a kinky coily chick and I used to get relaxers years ago. I did the big chop last year to get rid of the chemically damaged hair and I haven’t looked back. I only use heat for trims about twice a year, but that’s it. I love my curls!

Hi Mel! What are your thoughts on the Keratin Complex KCTEXTURE? It doesn’t use heat and it is supposed to help smooth frizz but not reduce the curl. I’m thinking of getting one. I’ve had issues with keratin treatments in the past so I’m nervous to do it.

Very helpful information. I've been struggling with reviving my curls on one side of my hair. I need to get the K18 leave-in and pray it helps. I barely ever wear my hair straight, but I must have damaged it at some point... Thank you for all the tips and tricks. I LOVE your curls!!

I LOVE watching your videos! You are very informative and break everything down. My daughter is 10 years old and has really curly hair. I have used a straightener and she has had it straightened with a hot comb. Are there any treatments that you would recommend for her? Also, is there a diffuser that you would recommend? Thank you! :)

Hair is gorgeous 🎉the whole vid from the back was 😮🤩🤩🤩. I always pass the heat like daily to keep the silky look but I feel my curls are not coming back as well when that’s done. I need to learn about what oils we can use while being straight.

Is the Brazilian Blowout a keratin treatment? I remember the stylist passed the straightener through my hair 10 times for each section. It's been about 6 years since I stopped getting those treatments and I kid you not I'm still trying to get my curls healthy again.

After hearing your explanation about botox, I would love to hear more about it. Would I need to use a flat iron every week if I do botox? Or, could I just get a regular blowout like we do in my country at the beauty parlor (rollers to dry the hair, then a blowout to smooth down the roots)? I am struggling very badly with lots of frizz all over my hair. In fact, my ends look way better than my hair from my scalp to 3 inches. I have lots and lots of shorter hair all over my hair and those hairs stand up like crazy. If botox would help me get the frizz under control, I'd be a happier girl.

They don't tell you but Olaplex treatments will work better if you wash or even clarify first so the chemicals can reach your strands better. Also, leave them up to 40mins, not 10. They will keep doing their thing as long as the hair remains damp but after about 40 mins that's it. Also, Oribe masks are arguably better than K18 and Olaplex so at least deserve a mention.

I have naturally pin straight hair- I would love to have curly, textured hair. That silky smoothness looks good freshly washed and on camera. But it lacks volume and gets greasy and limp within a day (well, at least mine do). Your "puffy" hair looks so beautiful, and I can only dream having so much volume.

Can anyone help me? My hair is wavy to curly, but the top has never been quite as wavy. This summer I bought a teeny little curling iron and on days when the top looked too straight I would wrap sections of hair around the iron, but not the ends. I have liked how it leaves my hair more evenly curled, but I would rather not use it. I decided to stop using it, but now I think my hair on top is even straighter than before. Have I permanently changed the curl pattern? Any tips to help restore or get more curl on the top naturally? Thanks! And Mel, you are a delight. Wish I knew you personally. Liquid sunshine in a world that needs more of that. 🙏🏻✌🏻

I I am newish here, would this routine also work for completely neglected curls? Im talking shaved head growing out to hips kinda neglected curls. I also do need a haircut, but its been growing like 8 years. The frizz on my hair is insane. I have no idea what my patterns are like, but following your stuff the past 2 washes has made an insane difference. Thank you for that

Hey Mell, I'm not sure when/who you recommend using K18/oleplex type treatment. I have fine, high porosity 3a-b hair that I diffuse(with heat protectant) for 5 min- 4 times a week. No color. Is that diffusing causing damage that I need to do some repair treatment?
@jasmineharrison6732 жыл бұрын
Ok this really helps. I have K18 but find I never use it because you need to towel dry first. So now I'll pop it on, leave for 10-15mins (?) then respray to style 👍

Get a microfibre towel - it has helped with styling and just wrapping my hair up in it before I use k18.

Question - unless I missed it .. is there a safe way to straighten hair back-to-back as far as wash cycles? Or do you recommend alternating (like straight one cycle, curly the next, then back to straight)?

What can I do if I have curly hair but prefer it straight and need to wash almost every day due to working out but dont want to damage the hair? As background on my case, Curly hair (while gorgeous on other people) does not suit me, is very high maintenance (needing to be refreshed daily with our without water (even with sleep protection)) and demands too much of my time to look good even when very healthy (refreshing, drying etc.). Adding styling products and leaving it to air dry is also a no go, takes forever and I only get like 4 hours of good hair. HELP. i want healthy hair but also want to look reasonably good without spending inordinate amounts of time on it.
