Well, I'm both impressed and inspired! 😀 One tip: You can eliminate those hard, rough edges of the water bottles by quickly running a lighter around the edges. You only want the flame close enough and long enough to soften, not completely melt the plastic. All in all, you've given my brain lots of ideas to play with - which is a lot more fun than worrying about illness and economics (pandemic, 2020). Thank you for that! 🤗

Can you please make video on how to repurpose tote bags? I see a bunch of videos on how to make them but my dilemma is I used to go to many trade/vendor shows and have an abundance of bags. Thank you!!!!

Jessica Figueroa. I get a lot of those, too. Depending on the size, I use smaller ones for packing lunches and larger ones for holding supplies for different craft projects (like one for crosstitch, one for studying-book/notebook/pens/highlighters, one for a card kit I want to make, etc). The bags I don’t like much I save to give to people to hold their purchases from my garage sales - especially when they buy some dishes or something breakable, as they are less likely to break than plastic bags...

My daughter and I once made really adorable pillows out of tote bags but they were from IKEA and had a real cute print on them. 😊 I like Kristie's ideas above to use for storage or as bags to use in garage sales etc. 😊💗

Here in NY plastic is banned in the stores do you have to bring your own or purchase a reusable bag. Some stores will sell you a paper bag for 5 cents. Since I am making masks, I decided to make coordinating totes.

YOU ARE A PERFECT EXAMPLE OF TEACHING AND SHOWING .. OTHERS TALK TO MUCH ON THEIR SITES AND TAKE FOREVER TO GET THRU A TUTORIAL THAT I LOOSE INTEREST. YOU GET RIGHT TO IT AND TALK AND TEACH AT THE SAME TIME. I REALLY APPRECIATE IT... I DON'T MEAN TO SOUND RUDE BUT I DON'T CARE ABOUT THE BIRDS IN YOUR GARDEN EATING YOUR FLOWERS ON ON THE SITE TO LEARN. YOU DO A GREAT JOB WISH OTHERS WOULD TEACH LIKE YOU... THANK YOU..

Hi there. To smooth the rough edges of the plastic bottles, switch your iron on high and just press the edge to the iron (pie a piece of greaseproof paper over the sole plate. After a couple of moments, the edge will soften and melt, leaving a nice smooth edge. Just an idea.

What I like is you are purposing items from Packages that are mostly good material and it is a big waste to put into trash if you would not show how to make them look prettier and use them as very useable containers of daily items. This should be tought to children in school. It's just great! Thank you for making those videos to share for other people.great ideas!👍🏻 A tip: maybe buying a roll of wall paper that matches the colors of your interior is a bit cheaper then all this special colored paper sheets by the page. It can get costly those single pages unless the project is small.

Cornflour and boiling water also works well for these types of projects that call for Mod Podge to use basically as a glue. To Make Cornflour Glue: Start by mixing part of the cornflour with a small amount of cool water to begin with so until there are no lumps. I can't remember the ratio of cornflour to water, but it will be on Google. You then add more cornflour and more water until all of the cornflour and water is combined. Then heat the mixture to a light boiling point, stirring continuously until you have the same consistency that you would expect to see if you were using Mod Podge. If the consistency is not thick enough, add more cornflour (mixing it with cool water first), or gradually add more water if it's too thick. The main thing to remember is that you must first mix the cornflour with cool water (making sure not to get lumps). This shouldn't happen if you have added the mixture (of cornflour and water) gradually, to ensure that there are no lumps in the mixture when you add it to the water. If you find that there are any lumps when you have the cornflour and water mixed together, use a fork, hand whisk or beater, etc to break up the lumps. - THICKENING FLOUR - The reason behind this is that for the cornflour to thicken, it needs a boiling temperature to burst the flour molecules to make the starch. This is the same reason that any type of flour needs to be cooked, whether you're making glue, custard, a packet gravy, white sauce, cheese sauce, or making a gravy with the bits left from the meat &/roast vegetables and the juices left in the pan after a roast has been cooked, or using the 'bits' and the juices, the flour needs to be 'cooked' or it won't thicken. Many people sprinkle the flour over the bottom of the baking pan and cook it on top and the stove, scraping off anything that's left in the baking dish from a roast, it must be cooked well so that those starch molecules burst open. Some people 'cook' the flour on the hot stove top, and scraping the pan clean of all the 'leftovers' while cooking the flour with it and then adding water little by little until it comes to boiling, while others just mix the flour and water and adding it to the pan, and then scraping the pan while the flour is cooking to boiling point. However if the flour isn't cooked by either method, the gravy will be watery, thin, and taste floury. This is why a 'watery' gravy (or sauce, especially white sauces) tastes very floury. It's because those starch molecules haven't been cooked on a high enough temperature to burst open the starch molecules which is why the gravy or sauce is too runny. Even some seeds lay dormant until a fire comes through and the heat makes the kernel burst open so that it can finally burst forth and gives us a new plant! - Cornflour Mod Podge - It's the same reason that the cornflour has to come to the boil for the cornflour glue. The cooked cornflour is what makes the mixture 'gluey'. When the water and cornflour are mixed well Before it's 'cooking' at a high heat, you won't get a lumpy, gluggy glue, gravy, etc. As long as you start with cool water and mix it with the cornflour until there are no lumps, and then bring the mixture to boiling point while constantly stirring, your glue, or gravy, or sauce you won't be lumpy. Do this when mixing any flour, powdered gravy mix, custard powder, white or cheese sauce, or any other powder that you're going to mix with a liquid, and it won't go lumpy. This is also the reason that you use cornflour instead of plain flour in this instance, because cornflour will dry clear. It's the same when making a gravy, if you use cornflour you will keep the gravy dark in colour, but if using plain flour for gravy, if you find that you need to thicken it, use cornflour to keep it a good brown colour. - Making Thickened Coloured Finger Paints for children. Cornflour is also great for making kids coloured paints a little thicker for finger painting. - Window Treatments - If you have moved into a new flat or house and you're either on a strict budget, or you're renting, or you want something temporary, or you just want something for privacy but don't like the blinds or curtains that are already there, and you don't want to make or buy anything, then here's a relatively inexpensive way out. - Glue lace, or another type of fabric, just onto the glass in the window instead of curtains. Lace, sheer or something with a loose weave, or a thicker fabric if you want to keep the sun out, any of these will work really well however the loose weave fabrics are best. If you are renting this is a great alternative to curtains, because you only need enough fabric to cover the glass, rather than all of the accessories, as well as all of the extra fabric needed for curtains. Make sure to wash the fabric you intend to use Before cutting it out otherwise you may find that it's shrunk and you are then left with gaps around the glass. When you no longer need the glass covering, you then just remove it easily using warm water .... and the same roller that you used to put it up, will also do the trick to wet the fabric to remove it. This will dissolve the cornflour 'glue'. Just remember that it is Not waterproof. However, if you want to clean the windows and the fabric, you can just use warm water and gently remove the fabric, hand wash the fabric and clean the glass, then just paint the glass with the cornflour glue again, iron out any wrinkles on the fabric, put the washed fabric back on the glass. Ensure that there aren't any wrinkles or air bubbles, depending on the fabric, because how it looks once it's on the glass, is the way it will dry. Apply a thin coating of glue onto the glass. Place the fabric on the glass, then use the roller to apply another coat of the glue over the fabric again, using more of the same glue mixture. I used a paint brush, but it occurred to me later that a paint roller would probably been a better option. It would be best to put the fabric at the top of the glass first, and spread it lightly with your hands, then use the paint roller to roll the fabric onto the glass to give a wrinkle free finish.

I use those super thick cardboard rolls from wrapping paper. The ones you can't bend at all. It seems like toilet paper rolls wouldn't really stand up very well. I have always saved any box that is super thick and unbendable to cover with contact paper or paint. Back in the day I was that poor and old habits die hard! Now I do it for environmentally conscious readons. Who the heck brought up E6000? It's not toxic once it dries unless you lick it. I wear a respirator mask when I use it. I'm getting that drill! 😍
@FABEDhacks
@FABEDhacks 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, those are def the better option if available but I have to say with paper and the multi coats of mod podge, they become pretty sturdy. So glad you mentioned about the E6000. I was starting to get paranoid about using. I guess it is still not a bad idea to use the others where they will work if coming into food contact. And yes! That drill is FAB FAB FABULOUS!!!

B Bear I’m cracking up, “it’s toxic if you lick it” I use the e6000 for almost all my projects. I know, for a fact, my brain damage isn’t a direct result of the glue. I had it waaay before I started diy. 😜

Similarly, I use extra wrapping paper instead of the scrapbook sheets as I don't do much crafting. It's been a while since I've bought any, but I tended to buy more modern/graphic styles that don't have holiday themes. Bonus: After Christmas, they're marked down to almost free!

Awe... I’ve missed your videos. I’ve got an impinged sciatic nerve. Thanks to the druggies who’ve gone off the rails with RX drug abuse the states of Virginia and West Virginia have deemed the medicine I take is a controlled substance. I’ve had problems getting my scripts filled. The change in meds has been difficult. I don’t and won’t take opioids, but it seems any sort of medication that can be abused is abused. Soooo... here’s to hoping a solution is found before I go off on some gonna for nothing. 😼

Right now my budget is 0 literally and I've been collecting the paper towel holders and the toilet paper holders and I couldn't remember why and this popped up and now I am going to repurpose and organize my craft supplies using that method I wish I could show you a picture when it's finished but KZbin doesn't allow for that. Thank you very much because I looked at them again today and said I'm going to throw these things out. Excellent video. Since I'm prone to fumbling & dropping things in my old age, I put Dollar Tree hairbands around my boxes of small items that when dropped/spilled, tend to grow legs & crawl under the most immovable piece of furniture in the room. I don't remember this being a problem when I was younger.

Girl you and me both!! I don't know if I edited them out but I kept dropping things on a recent video (I think this one) It was a mess. And what's worse is when they do crawl under the immovables, we need to get down and look underneath! That's pretty outstanding feat as well! 😁😁😁 My dad always said, "Ro, don't get old!" Now I know what he was talking about!!

I bought a bamboo back scratcher at Dollar Tree and keep it handy to slide under the heavy, low furniture to retrieve small items that I drop. My dog is also always dropping her rawhide bones and knocks them way under the couch. A broom handle is too long and awkward so the back scratcher is very lightweight and easier to manage. It's much easier on my wrist and back.

I love your ideas. I now have a project for my daughter and I to make for her art supplies. I was having hard time finding and didn’t want to spend a lot but here is something we can do together! We already have stuff to make the organizers.

Great ideas, I make recycled cardboard items all the time. Reuse a lot of my cans make great containers for all kinds of stuff. I even made a little herb garden out of cans and scrap lumber added some tags of the herbs planted in the cans with tags I found at Dollar General, painted them w/chalkboard paint and hung on the plant container with just some raffia. Super cute. You should make a video on that. Thanks, I'll be watching for more ideas.

I love these ideas! I recently made 2 caddies for my craft tools using cake pans and toilet paper rolls. I was concerned about strength, so I wrapped them in duct tape, added a bottom circle cut from a brie package, and inserted circles made from foam sheets to cushion the bottom. It's great to store on the shelf then bring to the table as needed.

Another thing, along that theme, is to save the plastic top and bottom that purchased pies and cakes come in. They make perfect drain trays for plants. So many pots don’t come with a tray and you have to purchase one.

*kicking herself* I was recently so proud of myself. I got a great deal on eggs that came in a clear, plastic container that was too tall to fit my shelf space. I just happened to have saved two cardboard egg cartons that were more compact. But after transferring the eggs, I wastefully threw out the plastic cartons, telling myself I'm eliminating plastic from my life. I still could have found a way to upcycle those cartons. I hate that it's always the hindsight that's 20-20. 🤨🙄

I use shoe boxes in my unfinished basement to organize items near my workbench. I just turned the boxes inside out, and then you have a nice brown exterior on all the boxes. So I don't have to paint my shoe boxes!
