Doctor Who is pretty good I recommend seasons 1-4 and maybe 5-8 if you want a little bit more (still not as good as 1-4) but after that the writing of the average episode got really bad (there's also the classic 1963-1980s series but I don't know if it'll appeal to you unless you're a fan of the older, much slower "serial" storytelling format)
