The Starcruiser was way way waaaaay too overpriced, it really wasn’t a surprise it was gonna shut down. And congrats on 15 years :)

It also just never worked right, apparently. I know several people who went and spent varying amounts of money on extras and nobody came back without some pretty serious complaints about the game and the roleplaying not actually working properly (Characters not trained on how to deal with certain very basic types of interactions and the app just glitching out and never sending missions or updating progress were the most common). Seems like it was extremely rushed and nobody bothered to actually hang out with Star Wars fans before it was all put together. She doesn't cover everything, but Jenny Nicholson has a pretty great 4 hour video on her and her sister's experience when they went just as regular joes and not under the influencer umbrella.

As both a Walt Disney Company shareholder and a Walt Disney World annual pass holder I understand they need to make money and cover expenses like paying cast members and utilities to run the hotels and parks. But there is a point that the average family can no longer afford to park to the parks anymore; then the company will lose revenue. My first family family trip to Walt Disney World for a 10 day trip in the Summer of 1983; when I was 7 my mother was on Social Security disability and a stay at home mom my father made $13 an hour as a General Motors assembly line worker. the star cruiser was a multi-thousand dollar LARPing experience. it seems like an absolute dream for gigantic star wars nerds who WANT to LARP on disney property, but that is (shockingly) a relatively small and specific group of people. i always thought it was weird, though, that disney would go for something that requires such high commitment from its guests and caters to such a niche demographic, when a highly themed immersive star wars hotel WITHOUT the roleplay elements, necessity to stay inside the resort for your whole vacation, stay time limits, and absurd price, would have been disgustingly successful. like, why did they go for a harder-to-market project that requires so much more effort from the cast and puts restrictions on guests, when a _regular_ resort highly themed to star wars would have been a smash hit?

If you missed ExtraTerrorEstrial, don't fret: you can still ride its awesome clone in Staffordshire, England. Nemesis Sub-Terra is essentially a five-minute version of Alien Encounter where the floor "collapses" and the seats drop eleven feet straight down into an alien hatchery, where a bunch of eggs hatch and splash you with water. Then everything goes dark and it turns into a more conventional version of the classic Disney ride. Following that, you go through a miniature haunted house full of scare actors. It's easily the most terrifying ride at the entire park, but if you're not an Alien Encounter fan, you can still ride all the world-record-breaking coasters nearby.

Way too much emphasis on the Disney East Coast properties here, BUT... • Let's face it. Disney went full-on elitist with that Galactic Starcruiser farce. It was legitimately the first time Disney just said the hell with the little people and set out to cater to only people who had 4 to 6 thousand disposable dollars just sitting around to blow on a 2 day hotel stay. Walt would have fired people over this. It pissed off *everyone* including cast members. • Screwing with the Disneyland Tiki Room is indeed blasphemy. Leave it alone. It's a great place to get away from the crowds for a few minutes, and it's fun. • Edible poop is hilarious, but probably not very Disney. I will admit that Walt might have been tickled by the idea. • Alien Encounter sounds like it was a blast. I get that younger kids might have some trauma and nightmares for a few...months, but geez, restrict it to 12 plus or something. I love a good visceral scare. That being said, the Stitch version sounds like fun, too. • WAY back, Disneyland tucked a McDonald's fries-only shop near the Columbia's dock between New Orleans Square and Bear Country. The place was always packed, and IMO, it was the best place in the American West to get McDonald's fries. Always fresh and hot. They also put a McDonald's in California Adventure, but it was a regular McDonald's fare, with their relatively cheap and standard "okay, but not good" burgers.

I'm surprised they gave the name "Pleasure Island" to an unrelated nightclub rather than an area/ride themed after the island from Pinocchio.

I'm surprised there was no mention of the EXTREME downsizing of the 4th of July decorations and especially the very minimal and shortened fireworks display.

Just piggybacking on this to note that Disney Dan & Defunctland both have great videos on the kites & alien encounter. ☺️

Sorry AJ, the Galactic starcruiser segment was silly sugarcoating - we all know the real problem ;-)

Yes; the real problem was poor publicity.

Love Sorcerers’ of the Magic Kingdom. Just found an original binder for my cards at one of those cheap souvenir stores on my last trip. Wish they would bring it back!

You forgot River Country and the Island walk around that was just across the water from the Campsites.

I was one of the earliest people to stay at the themed hotels and it was actually the Ariel pool that sang. When you were under the water you would hear songs from The Little Mermaid, mostly 'Under the Sea'

@dfbguide I think you missed an opportunity to call out Disney Quest. 🥰 I fondly remember being able to play and design my own roller coaster and experience early virtual reality kind of engagements . I think it is one of the things they shouldn’t have killed and maybe someday we’ll get lucky and get something like that back….. ❤

KZbin's algorithm hadn't been bringing you up on my main page in a long time. It was nice to hear some news from you again. Side note, I don't understand why they are so stubborn to not just turn the galactic Cruiser into a regular Disney Resort hotel. I would love to stay there and leave at my own free will.

I rode the "ExtraTERRORestrial" the year it opened. I was 16. My family didn't want to ride it with me so I rode it alone. I came out of the ride and wouldn't talk for over an hour. I was ghost white. And, the only reason I made it through was the very nice lady who held my hald during the ride. I am 43 and still don't like the building.

We loved Sorcerer’s. We were there a couple weeks before they discontinued it so we got a whole bunch of packs so they wouldn’t have them anymore. We found out there was a “board” version of it from another KZbinr and bought it on eBay. Just played it a couple days ago.

When did the Sporks stop being available at DB-7? I got one last year while I was down there on my College Program. It was a separate purchase, but it is one of my favorite souvenirs from my time at Disney.

There also used to be a wagon by Big Thunder that was strictly for McDonald's fries. (Disneyland) I remember getting fries one day, and then they were gone the next! We were all so sad
