@Damianxavierxx6 жыл бұрын
Good, glad to see you guys covering a Nigerian. As for the monopoly, I think it's unequivocal and unjust but we see similar situations in countries like Russia and China, so it's more about playing the game than behaving like a victim. Furthermore, you said Nigeria produced two billionaires but it's untrue there are three other billionaires recognised by Forbes; namely; Folorunsho Alakija (the richest black woman), femi otedola, and Sani Rabiu. Also, the Nigerian business environment is arranged like an oligarchy, but despite that there have been several successful people (especially from my tribe; the igbos) who come from impoverished backgrounds, but beat the odds and have become Titans of African Entrepreneurship. Therefore, it's more about diligence and ingenuity. Nigeria is a country more affiliated with innovation and ingenuity than other African countries, so i believe that someday Nigeria will the Wakanda of Africa.
@osaroosayande26666 жыл бұрын

Aliko Dangote is one of the few useful africans. Less talk and more action. Of course there is a shady side about him, but hey nobody is perfect. As for the monopoly issue, i'd rather have him hold monopoly on several nigerian industries than any foreigner. Between very bad and worse i'd choose the former. After all there isn't any african having monopoly on western or eastern industries while the opposite is quite frequent.
@Asafo_Kofi_The_1st6 жыл бұрын
leonid Danilovich arkadin A few useful Africans? My brother, calm down. I live in the United States, and I can tell you that only 1% or less are impacting any developed country. The rest are spectators. It is much harder to be a DANGOTE in Africa, than a Bill Gates in North America. In other words, DANGOTE for instance could have been ten times wealthier if he were doing business in North America or Europe. On the flip side, Bill Gates may not have even appeared in the record books, if he hailed from Nigeria. In a nutshell, I revere a millionaire in Africa, than a billionaire in Europe or America.
@ndongmojoseph2386 жыл бұрын
leonid Danilovich arkadin well said bro... Especially monopoly in Africa at large cos this so called "European and western friends" as well as former colonies are exploiting the F**k out of us
@Damianxavierxx6 жыл бұрын
Few useful Africans??, sorry to give you a newsflash but there are lots of "useful" successful Africans, who just refuse to be flamboyant but instead keep a low profile (especially in Nigeria).Plus the reason why there are less useful Africans in the first place is due to the footprints of corrupt governance left by our colonial white government. This has left many Africans to be impoverished, but despite that!!, There are still several success stories, just imagine what could occur if there was a similar and just government like the western nations, with all the hunger and courage of most Africans. Another reason is the brain drain, as some of our best minds are flown to and employed in developed countries. In case you didn't know Nigerians are the most successful ethnic group In the US. So be careful before you judge.

I watched the video and I also took time to read several comments made. I want to add that while monopoly is bad for the nation as it kills small businesses, many people have had some opportunity one time or the other and turned to criminals enriching themselves and their families. Dangote did the following: 1. Brought revenue worth billions of dollars 2. Created a place for Nigeria in the world business market 3. Created jobs for millions of people of which many are millionaires 3. Became a support also for the people of the country through philanthropist 4. Standing in gaps where the government of the country is not measuring up. I think we should give it up for him. All these didn't just come by mistake, he proved himself. Advise: work hard and prove yourself, there is room for more billionaires to emerge.

This is a great video, ALux, It’s nice to learn about some of the great men of Africa. When trying to amass wealth in the means of becoming greater sometimes you may do unpopular things. However it’s not how you start sometimes, It’s about how you finish. To me it seems with his philanthropy work he should be able to erase some of the not so popular things that he might have done.
@readone51044 жыл бұрын
I am a Nigerian. Nothing unpopular about Dangote in His business. Is simply a western media hypocrisy to never want to see any African achieve feats. In a country endowed with crude oil, where every politician want to grab power to siphon state treasury, But for close to 40 years, Dangote has never ever gets close to crude oil business until 2017 when he came to save the country to refine its crude oil product against the practice of exporting crude oil to America for refining and importing the same refined product for domestic use. It is not good to them we are becoming industrialized.

I am happy Nigeria has a Aliko Dangote a billionaire business in the Forbes 400 list of world billionaires. I like the fact that Aliko Dangote invest in many different businesses. Dangote is very generous because he created a $1.3 billion charity foundation. many businessmen around the world pay for play, meaning they have to give the politician money in order to operate their businesses. I also like Aliko Dangote car collections and Bombardier jet.
@the360degreemastery35 жыл бұрын
The answer to your question; it's good business, but it's not fair business. A monopoly requires that you have the ability to meet all demands, and that is what every business person strives for. However, the fact that Dangote has placed himself in the unique position of monopoly is not fair on other players. If he truly wants Nigeria to become a world economic superpower, he needs to release his stranglehold on the manufacturing and import sectors and let others grow.

Dangote was given monopoly by the Nigerian government, local business rival Ibeto petrochemical was banned from manufacturing cement for 8 years giving Dangote unfair advantage. Dangote had monopoly in food import such as pasta, floor, and noodles just to mention a few. Dangote and his uncle Dantata have access to Nigeria's vast oil wealth as part of the elite northers who control Nigeria. Whilst Aliko Dangote is a modest gentleman he cannot be described as self made.
