To answer the question, Citroën should keep developing the Hydroactive ™ suspension. Produce electric hydraulic pump powered vehicles with hydraulic motors in each wheel. Four wheel steering via hydraulic motors all computer controlled. This technology is most important for commercial vehicles as they carry sensitive equipment. It is also important counties like Australia where rough roads are common.

We are still thinking back at our CX 2000 Pallas as our best performer in winter, the hydraulic suspension together with Michelin ZX tyres did get us out of any deep snow situations. When parked we dropped the car down as low as can be and when the car at night has been boxed in with compacted snow we lifted the car up to wheel change position and just drove out and off we went. With any other car, we always had to use a shovel to remove the snow so we could drive away. HWY driving was so smooth as, the car's self leveling suspension just adjusted itself to the speed driven and road conditions. Lean on the juice and dream to drive!

Citroën is THE best car manufacturer in the whole world! I have now my third Citroën car. If my car breaks down one day, which I don't think it will since it is the most reliable car I have had, I will buy another Citroën. But it has to be one with hydropneumatic suspension. Second hand Citroëns are cheap here in Norway, because everybody thinks it is low quality and will be very expensive to repair the hydropneumatic suspension. Well, I bought one that actually had low quality, the earliest model of Citroën XM. I got it almost for free. It had a lot of faults, but guess what, it did start every day and never broke down. My neighbours were angry, they had expensive cars that did not start and what not, while my old Citroën I paid nothing for, was up and running all the time. Early models of XM had quality issues, yes. And it was for the most the electronics that failed. But also some plastic things that fell off and stuff like that. But it is not like that anymore. The early XM had a good and reliable motor, and it did not rust. Citroëns don't rust at all. I have a C5 now. That is a high quality car. I have next to zero repair costs. And it will start and drive regardless of what. Even in -25 cold degrees celsius, without an engine heater. The suspension everybody is so afraid of. That is THE most reliable suspension ever. And the cheapest in terms of repair costs. I never ever have to replace any suspension parts, and never have to repair anything. The only thing I have to do is dump in a little hydraulic oil in the reservoir now and then. I have had 3 Citroëns with hydraulic suspension. The only cost I have had, even in my low quality early model of XM, is some hydraulic oil. The suspension is way cheaper and far more reliable than regular steel spring suspension. And of course ten times more comfortable and extremely useful in winter, when you just can raise the car and drive over piles of snow. Those who claim that Citroën has low quality and are unreliable cars, that is those who never have owned one. Us Citroën owners, we have experienced the high quality, high reliability, high comfort and the low cost of owning one. I will for sure never buy another brand. I had a Subaru once, that car did break down.

Lucky you. I owned a Citroën BX 19 TRS automatic. That was not a bad car, but it was expensive to maintain. Octopus in the hydrosuspension, 600 Euro. Resistor in dashboard fan, 500 Euro, wheel arms every three years 300 Euro, stranded with faulty thermostat twice, steering wheel fell in my lap once, oil rings around the engine valves, very, very expensive, stranded (in Norway!) with a broken generator, dashboard clock replaced twice and broke again 500 Euro in total, exhaust pipe full length, and still it rattled womewhere. I am not counting normal things like brake discs and the like. I owned it for six years. I now drive very cheap Japanese cars. This is not fun, but in six years I had ZERO defects. Not even a light bulb. So, I have good memories about the ride, of Citroën, but bad memories about the quality. But.... they did not rust. I have to give the BX that.

There is one thing missing in this video. And that is the slalom test or moose test, if that is the name. They test every car's ability to manoeuver away from obstacles, and how fast they can drive slalom between obstacles. The winner of that test, is the Citroën Xantia Activa. No other cars have managed to perform better that the Xantia Activa, which is a car model from 1994. None of today's cars can outperform it. The Xantia Activa had some very special anti-roll suspension. Here is a video of the Xantia Activa's suspension: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pX6tk4ipeb-CsKs

Since 1995 my wife and I have owned between us seven Citroën cars. (NZ new). Currently a 2013 C4 Exclusive purchased new and now at 30,000km. Plus a 2010 C5 Exclusive purchased with low kms and now at 64,000km. All cars have been very reliable, a pleasure to drive, especially the C5 with its superb luxury ride (Hydropnuematic) and multitude of features, some of which not found in many current vehicles. An added bonus is the extraordinary fuel economy of the C5 and yet adequate power, particularly hill climbing, and for what is a quite heavy (and solidly built) vehicle. Both cars still look and drive like new.

Through time Citroen was the manufacturer of brilliant cars, amazing concepts always ahead of their time. Unfortunately, Citroen decided to go with the flow and waste its most valuable asset: the hydropneumatic suspension. I had so far a 75 GS, an 87 BX, a 95 Xantia, a 97 Xantia and now I have a 04 C5. All run excellently in that kind of suspension, combining a unique travel comfort and exceptional handling. I also had a 00 Saxo and a 10 Grand Picasso with normal suspension that had exceptional handling too, but not as comfortable as the hydro. I wish that Citroen would bring back that suspension. Then I would buy a newer model!!!

First they should bring back the hydractive suspension system or an improved system that will still offer ride quality, safety etc. Being a proud owner of 4 Citroens since 1974 - GS, D Special, BX and currently a C5 I wouldn't even consider another make of car. Unfortunately in today's economy it's all about the mighty dollar and the bottom line which makes it extremely difficult to build a "value for money" product at the consumer end. I feel the most important component in any modern vehicle (most are relatively safe, economical and overpriced) is reliability. From personal experience and what I've read Citroen would be one of the most reliable on the mass manufactured vehicle market - the problem that I've experienced is lack of available support/ service centre should something go wrong. It's great to get a 5-6 year warranty but if it's not backed up by the dealer network it's worthless, particularly in a vast country like Australia, USA, Canada etc. If you're in China - forget it. So how can Citroen improve? Easy! Build up a reliable service network throughout the country particularly in regional areas. Continue to build innovative, quality and reliable vehicles, as they have in the past, and create a marketing campaign around a satisfied customer/ dealer network - you can't beat word of mouth advertising. One other thing I can think of is honest and independent reviews by people from all walks of life not just paid for "professional reviewers" - how many of them own a Citroen? I hope this helps.

I am french. Thanks for this constructive comment. Most of what we can read about french cars are negative comments based on probably outdated recollections from an era when perhaps the vehicles were more cheaply constructed than nowadays. I personally praise the innovation spirit that you can find in this brand. Rather than copying the wannabe references, they dare proposing something different. i consider that this kind of brand deserves a lot of respect for this business approach, especially in today's world where the market analysis often ends up into 90% identical and boring cars. The conservative "good" and :trustworthy "brands, which purely go for the safe and riskless approach do not deserve any credit or reputation, they merely keep alive by vampirizing the ideas from innovators that test the reaction of the market. No glory here.

A brick-and-mortar service network is very expensive to develop. I've thought up an alternative more affordable solution. Taking advantage of the technologies and connectivity, they could create an online assistance program. Your car would regularly send data to Citroën's assistance headquarters to detect failures even before they happened or could damage your car further. They would also provide specific information on how to periodically service your car and how to repair it, just like iFixit makes tutorials on how to replace different components of your laptop computer or smartphone. Finally, the spare parts and would be shipped using some reliable package delivery company or just selling them on Amazon. As an option, they could give you the blueprints of the damaged pieces to allow you to make yourself those pieces with a 3-D printer (mostly pieces made of some plastic material and not related to your car's safety features).

Citroen is the car company that won the largest number of WRC rallyes with the ZX, C4 and even now. It was the first company to bring Henry Ford's mass production ideas to European car manufacturing. The Citroen CX has inspired most of the modern cars of today as its shape has been repeated over and over again up until the latest of the LJ Jaguars. The CX had a gradual steering system. The Citroen Xantia had the first active suspension in the world before Lotus or Mercedes. Needless to say that most mechatronics engineers wish to own a Citroen, packed with so much advances. It would be nice to drive a DS9 it is only sold in China.

Hi everyone ! As a french born and Citroen enthusiast I have enjoyed this video a lot. I remember when we could buy and own a DS in the US. I almost bought an ID model but did not because I felt it was underpowered ...(the DS was over my budget) but I have regretted this ever since I had a chance to drive and fall in love with the DS. But what I want to say is that the young woman does not really butcher the pronunciation of "Citroen: as much as some people say. On the other hand she and so many others could take a course on "Peugeot" pronunciation !... I have owned a 404 in the States and loved it ! I would also love to see both Peugeot and Citroen come back to the US. I saw the letters CITROEN on the Eiffel Tower and I think it was later than 1934, more like 1937 or so, I was a kid then on my first visit to Paris with my dad !

India have opened doors to almost all brands of the world. So far nobody dare bring Citroen to India. I had 2 Citroen CX at a time, in Dubai. One of them was built out of 2 damaged cars. I also had a Volvo 164E, very powerful and strong, where as Citroen was ultimate in luxury.

Citroen is THE most unique and "controversial" car in the entire car industry worldwide. It had a host of innovative tech features way ahead of its time, most notably its hydro-pneumatic suspension and directionally-controlled headlights. No other car from Europe or US or Japan comes close. The "DS" series in the 1960s was a classic example in point. An under-rated car brand that should try to revive its heydays.

Again, Citroen must bring back the superior and original designs of their past such as the 2CV, DS, GS, CX and maybe even the Traction Avant to be offered in electric versions. Who wouldn’t like that?

Having inherited a Traction Avant from my father, I'm at a loss what to do with it. It's in pieces with the engine, front fenders bifolding hoods, grill and radiator in perfect condition. But the rest of the car sat outside 16 years before being placed inside. Most people haven't even heard of a Citroen in the States, witch was explained very well in the vid.

The pronunciation tho...from a brit who is a citroën fanatic here is some help. Peugeot (Per-j-oh) Citroën (Sit-Ron..or to be professional sit-row-en and its said quite fast) Picasso (pick-ass-so) Also the picasso is no more it's now called the spacetourer range as they claim that picasso is an unwanted name between medium and large cars. The C5 is discontinued apart from the new C5 aircross. PSA is planning to send some cars out to America meaning that Americans will finally be able to have good cars. Also some of the 'China' only cars arent China only. The suspension in many cars such as the DS through to the X7 C5 had hydropneumatic suspension which included small orbs connected to each wheel where if the wheel hit a ditch or a rock a small piston would compress some nitrogen creating a cushion effect. They unfortunately stopped this as it didnt work for their vehicles but have tried to bring back the title of best suspension with their progressive hydraulic cushions and their active scan suspension. The DS7 used to transport the president was called DS7 La Prémiere and the car is on sale under the name DS7 Crossback with a starting price of £28000 throigh £45000 at the time of me writing this. The top of the range ultra prestige model includes autonomy and can take the wheel on many roads like the Tesla but for a LOT less money. Citroën are also one of the few manufacturers who take some of their concept cars and make them real such as the DS5 which has now been discontinued but back in 2010 it was just a concept of a car designed around an aircraft cockpit but in 2012 the car was released publicly and I own one myself and it's beautiful. Citroën were also one of the first car manufacturers to put disc brakes on their cars and were well known for it as the only others cars at the time were American and didnt sell as they were overpriced and weren't very good in general so Citroën aas dub ed the first disc brake users. The traction avant was also dubbed first car with front wheel drive even though there were already some but like the disc brakes the other manufacturers failed and the cars didnt take off so Citroën took the title instead. Citroën also had one of the first autonomous cars as with the original DS the suspension was so smooth that it allowed an autonomous system to take over and drive up to 80mph. At the time no other car could do this as the rough suspension didnt allow that technology to perform correctly. This was only a concept and was not released. Also, DS has now split from Citroën while still trading under the Citroën name they are now DS automobiles which is the luxury side of PSA. And a final note is the Groupe PSA now own Citroën, Peugeot, DS Automobiles and Vauxhall.

I would love something like a modern version of the DS, even an electric version. The problem is that European cars in general are not liked here in Australia by mechanics as they are often far more difficult to repair and service than Japanese cars. I believe that Citroen is one of the worst in the this regard. Another area where European cars need to improve for Australia is for the paintwork and interiors to be more durable in the Australian sun as are the Japanese cars.
