@@random4969 Some people, me included, simply do not agree with the black and white view often portrayed about Nikola Tesla vs Thomas Edison. He was good business man AND a respectable inventor as well. It is true he did many unethical things, but that does not discredit his work. Tesla wasn't a saint either. He was also known for 'selling smoke' to investors, at least near the beginning of his downfall. By 'selling smoke' I mean; over-promising and not delivering. This of course hurt investors. So, Edison wasn't 'evil' and Tesla wasn't perfect.

Are you aware that Tesla was invited and attended Edison's daughter Madeleine Edison Sloane's wedding? Tesla and Edison corresponded quite often, and they were letters, that good friends would send each other. When Edison's phonograph and film factory burned down in 1914, Tesla sent a nice letter of encouragement and condolence. I would almost say they were actually friends, much different than what PBS and revisionist movies would have you believe. The AC/DC battle, was just a business battle, and was not really directed at Tesla, but rather Westinghouse.

I fondly remember studying the Industrial Revolution in school. We were each given worksheets to design our own inventions. The blurb at the top ended with “You could be another Thomas Edison!” Being the inveterate class clown I was, I crossed out “you could” and “another” so it said “be Thomas Edison!” I showed a kid in my class my doctored paper and he said, “Be Thomas Edison?!” My “invention” was a medicine for horses called Autolover, to help horses not be afraid of automobiles. In true class-clown fashion, I got the idea from reading a quote that said perhaps the day would come when horses would not be afraid of automobiles. 🤦‍♀️ Edit: Found the quote! It’s from Joseph W. Bailey, whoever that is. “Probably the time will come when horses will be educated to the point where they will not be afraid of automobiles; but I doubt that, for I have not seen the time yet that I was not afraid of them.”

Read about Thomas Edison from a man who knew him very well, Henry Ford. He wrote a wonderful detailed account of Edison’s approach, his beliefs and back story on his inventions. Thank you and "Bless you"... I think more people should "pick up a book and actually read" rather than rely on "google" for false information, hence becoming "pseudo experts" on Mr. Edison... This is a delicate subject for me, due to the fact that Edisons youngest son ( Theodore ) married my cousin ( Anna Osterhout ) and my grandmothers sister was a college classmate and fellow graduate with Henry Ford ( One of my favorite family photos is of her graduating with Mr. Ford ).

He was smart enough to surround himself with smart people like Louis Latimer...the Black inventor that made his idea for the lightbulb actually work! Supposedly Latimer is the one that drew up all of the paperwork on that patent as well, but "HIStory" doesn't acknowledge him anywhere in the text books. In those days its said that the actual inventor would've been the only one knowledgeable enough to draw up the patent paperwork. But in Edison's case the lowly, poor Black assistant knew his invention backwards & forward lol...yeah ok. Much like Henry Ford's assembly came from George Wagington Carver. He was undoubtedly an intelligent businessman, but he doesn't appear to have been a very honest or good person overall.
