My number 1 to do is to seek out the Cabin Steward. They are a must for a great trip. I like a soft feather pillow and if you ask for one they make it happen. They make up my room each day so I make sure I put things away before I go out each day. Treat your Cabin Steward with respect and in turn you will have a much better cruise.

1. I take videos of the untouched room 2. I start cleaning, bathroom & all touch areas, knobs, light switches, etc. (hard suitcases are still standing) 3. Check mattress 4. Unpack all clothes 5. Store stuitcases open under the bed with dryer sheets in them to keep dirty clothes as fresh as possible. Extra suitcase goes in the extra wardrobe. All of this happens my hubby chills out on the balcony (he works 2 full time jobs so I’m cool w/it, he’d be in the way anyway 😊) while I periodically stick my head out the door looking for the attendant. Once they show up, we ask for extra hangers, toppers and 4 extra pillows and we tip them.

I've taken 3 cruises - Love it, but I met our steward upon arrival and that's it. We see him/her, but they have never offered anything, never have I gotten those cute towel animals, etc. I guess we are pretty easy so I am sure the steward appreciates that, but I don't tip a huge amount because they don't go the extra mile. The last cruise was to Alaska and we had a problem with the heater. We called our attendant and he was very rude that we demanded a tech come look at it. Turns out they had to replace a part.

I prefer a more eco friendly variation with a magnetic wipe clean board(it sticks to the wall) and a marker, which lives on my fridge door when not traveling. It weighs practically nothing and slides easily into a pocket in my suitcase. Mine is black(like an old school chalkboard), and I hang a bright colored marker on a string tied to a strong magnet and microfiber cloth next to it. It's the message center for both the cabin attendant and for everyone in the room.

I've enjoyed, and benefitted from, watching a number of your videos, and even though I've been on a great many cruises, I found this video very useful, and I thank you for it. A couple of thoughts: 1. Very valuable, and NOT immediately obvious, was your suggestion about asking your steward about the location of electrical outlets, which sometimes are not obvious (e.g., on the bottom of the light over the bathroom mirror) and especially the features of the bed lights. 2. Ask your steward about how to open, shut, lock and UNLOCK the door to your balcony. Sometimes there are hidden knobs. 3. Cruise lines have become more sparing about amenities that automatically come included in your cabin, but which may be available on request. (Understandably, because even if not used, they may have to be disposed of between passengers and are a total waste.) You mentioned coffee or tea fixings. Another is dressing gowns and slippers. Thanks again, Ed in Boston

Live and learn.

Our first cruise was a premium cabin however the pool area was directly above. Late night scrapings as deck chairs were secured and early morning scrapings overhead as crew set out chairs for the day. Never again. I have found cheaper cabins on lower decks with no amenities above or below are the quietest. I never let a travel agent select my cabin. Not all cabins are created equal despite being in the same category.

Several good tips that I plan to use. Regarding the 'muster' videos, the last 2 cruises I've done (NCL) have us watch them as part of the advance check-in process. I will also say we have always had really good cabin stewards. One time, we asked about ordering more water for the cabin and the steward recommended ordering it from the main bar where it would be half the price of getting it through him. We've done that ever since.

My favorite tips on this video: UNPACK straight away. I do this whenever I travel and arrive at my destination. It takes a short time and creates order to your new temporary home. Second... RELAX in your room/cabin! So many people say, "you only are in the cabin to sleep". That's not really how it works. One spends more time in the cabin resting, relaxing and preparing that usually noticed. ENJOY your cabin! Sit on the loveseat, have coffee or cocktails on the balcony. You've paid for it, enjoy it! 🙂

Remember to hang the “Do not disturb” on the outside door when you hang out in your room (to look outside, watch tv, shower, nap, drink something, whatever the reason). The housekeeping needs to know you are occupying the room presently. They are cleaning, turning down the bed, whatever they do. Keep your valuables in the safe. That includes your identification. Keep your medications in the cosmetic or toiletries bag or in your safe at all times. It will be hard to find if you don’t. Unpack immediately. Keep your clothes in the closet, not on the bed or chair. Put your cosmetics and toiletries in their respective bags, not on the counter. The cleaning crew will be vacuuming and wiping all surfaces, so keep your stuff off. Don’t leave your shoes on the floor or under the chair. Put them in the closet. Do they can vacuum. Ok yo leave your hat or sunglasses on the dresser, but nothing else. You will see they use these on the origami towels. 😊

When you use the safe for the first time, test it before you put something inside and write down or take a photo of the code you decide upon. I failed to check once and had to reset the safe. Thankfully it was 0000 and I didn’t need help but ever since then I’ve been paranoid. Also on the last night put one of your shoes (if they fit) inside the safe or near it so you don’t forget to double check you’ve left nothing behind. You won’t ever leave the cabin with only one shoe on.

Hello! Thanks a lot for watching - much appreciated! I ask my cabin attendant can’t to empty it - that way, they know I haven’t drank them when they come in and check the fridge. I get that it’s the cabin attendants job to get ppl things but I am always sort of disturbed how ppl seem to be okay with giving attendants requests and jobs to do. They have so much to already do, the last thing I’m going to do is make sure someone knows I want water or ice in my cabin. I can usually do that myself. I have asked for a kettle but let the attendant know it’s no worry if they can’t get it and then I still felt guilty. If I want ice - there’s plenty in the buffet. I thought it was an American thing but I’ve noticed UK cruise content creators have this same attitude as well. I’m Canadian for reference.
@FraserAtSeaАй бұрын
Hello! Don’t worry - I’m not a tyrant at all - I just request water or the ice bucket refill if it’s something I struggle to do at the buffet due to where the room is etc. Also, the kettle request is a one off then that’s it - I totally agree that the attendants have lots to do! 😊 Thanks a lot for watching!

Light switches. Identify them, find out their function. It is an unhappy me that finishes the evening reading in bed, gets nice and warm and sleepy, switches off the reading light by the bed then discovers random lights in the room / bathroom / other contiguous space are still on and not switchable from the bed. Grrr! (Did have a room somewhere with 27 different light switches and never found the optimum arrangement. The room, the exterior porch, the bathroom and the clothes room between the bathroom and the bedroom. I yearned for a master switch.)

Brilliant idea regarding the hangers and taking a picture. However, cruise lines are getting more fussy regarding simple requests like water. I require water twice daily to take multiple medications. Holland America will still send water through room service, but Princess will force you to buy a water package even though their customer service said it was free. Princess wasn't always like this, times are changing.
@FraserAtSeaАй бұрын
Hi Ryan, thanks for watching! I agree - it does change significantly depending on the cruise line, so always worth doing your homework for your particular line. I found HAL to be very good on my last cruise with them - almost nothing was too much for my cabin attendant!

There’s just 2 things that you missed. Number one, never put any of your things inside the cabin particularly near the bed unless you have done your bed bug check with a good torch. Leave all your belongings in the shower or bath in your cabin whilst you do this! If you get bedbugs you will have a terrible time not only being eaten alive but you could bring them home. Number 2 Bring disinfectant travel wipes to wipe down your tv remote and common surfaces As noro and covid is running rife. There was noro on my last cruise ,an outbreak unfortunately and I managed to stay well thankfully!
@FraserAtSea27 күн бұрын
Lisa, thanks so much for these! I’ll confess - I actually don’t ever do a bed bugs check when I cruise, but maybe I should. Is it easy to see them on there? Thanks a lot!
@lisalopez473126 күн бұрын
@@FraserAtSea yes you can see them if you look properly. in the crevices. Grab a torch and then you pull apart the bedding and check the seams of the mattress ,check the head board and also connected furniture ie side tables. You are looking for moving black or brown apple seed insects and also look for specks of blood left from a last feed. There are quite a few good you tube videos to show you this in more detail. Hopefully you will never deal with these horrible things but better safe than sorry. Remember to put all you bags in the bath or shower as soon as you enter cabin before you do your check ❤
