Speaking of tipping. My favorite place on the ship is the Lido or main pool area. I spend 95% of my time there on most cruises. What I do is scope out the area the very first day and look for a friendly pool waiter and/or bartender. Order a drink and slide them a nice tip right off the bat. I usually give $50 on the first day and promise another good tip before the cruise is over. I assure you, you will be taken care of the entire cruise...I do the same for my cabin steward on the first day.

On our honeymoon the room wasn't as cool as we liked so they brought fans until they got maintenance to come look at it. Cold as ice after that and he got another great tip before we left the ship. Tip 16 for Carnival Cruise line. If your a beer drinker and like thirsty frog red beer, buy it by the pitcher. It is available on most ships in the sports bar and red frog bar on the promenade, and is far cheaper than by the glass.

How little respect for the only body you will ever have! Just had my 1st cruise. Day 1: Before we got to the room... I got drunk. I barely made muster because I separated from my sister who took the cruise with me. I wandered and sat. Wandered again and sat. Almost fell asleep... eventually found the cabin. What got me drunk? The ships flagship drink. Offered quickly to us upon embarkation. No Regrets!!! Had a blast on the cruise! Loved every moment!

Those long happy hours at the Red Frog comes in so clutch. My brothers and cousins wasn’t really feeling one of the ports we stopped at so we came back to the ship super early and caught a good happy hour while a most of the ship was empty. Great time. One of the best days honestly.

One thing I'd add is if your going to Mexico on the cruise make sure that your not drinking drinks on the excursions they contain ice from the local water source. Only frozen drinks not made with ice, or shots neat. Had it happen on our first cruise to Yucatan, Progresso and Cozumel. I ordered a drink on the rocks and paid the rest of the cruise for it. Mote Zumas revenge is no joke.

i went on a week long cruise and I got the delux package. I drank over 320 drinks. Lol It was definitely worth it. I have never been so drunk and hung over in my life. I also some how didnt miss a beat of my vacation. It was awesome. I still have the bill they give you when you get off. The guy who handed me my bill was impressed

Good info about asking for the better alcohol when you order your mixed drinks.. I do love getting the drink of the day as soon as you get on the ship, but will pace myself. The best thing about Carnival's cheers program is that you can get all the bottled water you want, helps not to get too carried away!!

I would mention that some of the alcohol at the duty free store on board is not the same proof as what you'd get in a liquor store at home. For example last year on my Norwegian Sky cruise to Cuba I looked at a bottle of Monkey Shoulder Scotch. It was a 1 liter bottle, but it was only 80 proof (40% abv). In my liquor store Monkey Shoulder is in a 750 ml bottle, but is 86 proof (43% abv).

#1 quick hangover cure. Also good even if you're not drinking, but spent too much time in the sun. It won't help your sunburn but it will clear up your head by getting you hydrated quickly.

Tipping really is a great way to getting the bartenders and servers to remember you. My last cruise, first thing I did was go to the casino bar to get the sticker for the drink package on my card. Tipped the (extremely lovely Swedish bartender) $20. I was always front of the line for her and she always gave me the best drinks! And I second the Alchemy Bar, it can be a bit pricy but it’s great. Their bartenders are amazing and will make you new drinks to cater to your likes. And if you plan to have drinks, I always recommend the drink package if it’s offered. I’m not a heavy drinker but the freedom to get a drink whenever I want without having to worry about the price and it lets you try new things and if you don’t like it, just get something else.

About embarkation day, I actually just made a similar mistake. I got the first fun drink, and while I didn’t drink enough to black out or anything, I had a three other different kind of fun drinks and all that sugar and different kinds of liquor made me throw up the next morning and I was ROUGH til mid day. From now on maybe one mix drink if any and then beers for me

Such great advice and I swear, you make make me want to go book another cruise right now to put to use some of your great tips! Your idea of going on an excursion that serves liquor, in Puerto Rico, I went on a city tour the included a tour of the Bacardi plant, and at Bacardi, we were given two different drinks, both of them delicious. That was good advertising, from now on, I always buy only Bacardi rum which reminds me of the nice time I had in San Juan. Also on that same cruise, I took a tour of Sint Maarten and we got a free drink at the Sunset Bar a grill that is right there where those crazy jet landings happen at the Princess Juliana International Airport, well worth seeing! Also, taking advantage of a taste event--on a Norwegian Cruise, we got to taste five different kinds of flavored vodka martinis for a much reduced price, and then select our favorite out of the five, and get another one of that kind. I hadn't expected that each one we tasted would be nearly a full drink, as was the favorite one that we got to have at the end! Somehow, six martinis was a bit too much for me, but it sure was a great deal and I did enjoy it along with all the other tasters. Fortunately I didn't end up flat on my face on the deck or with a hangover the next morning! I agree with you 100% about talking to people at the bar. I started talking with a brilliant and charming couple from Switzerland, both of them were doctors, and both of them were in their 100s in age and about as active as I am who is 30 years younger! We talked together for over an hour, and would have kept on if they didn't have the time of their early dinner seating arrive. I made the mistake of not getting their home address or giving them mine (now I have calling cards made up), because since my mistake of not doing that, I have met, and kept up with, several other people that I met on cruises (or as well at resorts all over the world.). I hope maybe you have some advice about gambling in the ship casinos. The only thing I have read is that playing in the first two days of the cruise is the best time, in that they adjust the odds to yield more winners than normal, which will draw in other players who see that, for later on the cruise, when they return the odds to normal. I have never gamble in there, figureng that it would be the best way to lose a lot of money, but I always have fun with my brother and his wife who live in Las Vegas, so I would like to translate that to being smart while having fun in cruise ship casinos. I bet that you have some good advice about that from your experiences. I will search to see if you have already made a video about that.

Carnival changed the Cheers package for the Better. Definitely worth it because it includes top shelf, coffee,energy drinks, smoothies, juices, soda, seltzer water & our Favorite types of Alcohol not served in the U.S. discounted bottles of wine. If u have 2 separate rooms, have 1 room purchase then share. The" ULTIMATE" is Casino Drinks on Us!!! If u gamble & find 2 or 3 favorite servers because they have different shifts and areas, tip them well, be Awesome & it will flow. Now be careful not to get smashed while playing ur high stakes games. Play some slots & drink after you hit your winning streak on the tables. Many people say Drinks on Us is B.S. yet you just have to know how to use it correctly. Art, going to look at great art can be fun & can get u a good buzz. 1st night reservations for the steak house, usually you will get a free bottle of wine if u ask for it. It must be the 1st night on the ship. Winning contests, they usually will give you 2 free drink coupons. Bottom line, if you choose to sneak Alcohol on board & it confiscated, u r om a list & every time u cruise after that u are checked thoroughly. Have fun, Cruise safe & do not fight on a Cruise Caveman Out

The other YT creators mostly think, that unless you are buying 6 or more drinks a day per person, that overall the alcoholic drink packages are not a good use of your money. There's Captain's nights, art auctions, etc. that give free booze, some retail shops give free mimosas just for coming in to look (you don't have to buy anything), and depending on the cruise, certain bars will have a 2 for 1 special for an hour or two on different nights (you can walk around the whole ship with an obvious drink in your hand...I've even bought a 2 for 1 at one bar and carried them back to the bar/music I like a whole lot better!). This is, of course, late afternoon or evening drinking...not by-the-pool drinking. There's times that you will be buying drinks by the glass but you'd be surprised how seldom you will be doing that if you pay attention to opportunities.

Good tips for the Non alcoholics who aren't daily drinkers like most of these responses. I don't drink anymore, but as a cruiser I see a lot of people get hammered because they are just trying to have fun and over do it early.

Cruise ship casinos are the among the biggest ripoffs on the ship (along with spa treatments, art auctions, and extra cost dining). In Vegas and AC, your drinks are free while playing, play long enough and you get the free buffet, free show tickets, and a free room. On a cruise ship, you have already paid for your room, for entertainment, for food, and for your drinks. And the slot machines are set for low payouts...

I hadn’t eaten all morning due to checking out of our hotel, getting to the terminal for embarkation along with all the hustle and bustle of traveling with three children and let’s all just say a fourth child, my husband. So I get on the lido and drinks were everywhere! I was thinking, geez, I’m so beat and I could use a drink or two to relax and start this vacation. Well, one drink turned into two and the first day of my cruise was ruined. I was so drunk and completely out of it. I was in my cabin till evening the next day! Another tip for diabetics is to bring sugar free drink mix packets like RSVP Skinnies or Baja Bobs then just order alcohol(vodka, rum, etc) with water or club soda and stir in packet.

The beer by the bucket is a good idea only if you drink the brands of beer for the masses. If you like something different one is out of luck. We usually drink craft beer at home, the closest we have liked on-board is Alaska Brewer amber ale. Not offered by the bucket though.

Sugary drinks also get you drunk fast. Being drunk is essentially a diabetic shock so if your alcohol is sugary that happens faster.

Just got off the Horizon last week and bought 4 bottles of ciroc the last night and they sure did let me take it back to my room...also, while in port if you buy smaller bottles of alcohol they let you take them with you, put right in your bag and walk on the ship
