PLEASE make a video about over-tourism! I absolutely love travel so I'd need to know about that :)

Yesssss please do! My hometown is East Hampton.NY and is an insane place for tourists-anyone heard of “the Hamptons?” Yup, that’s where I’m from-I love in Wisconsin now but I clearly remember the dreaded summertime-the locals could not enjoy their summer due to the thousands of over eager, entitled tourists that ruined it-I’d love to see a video on this!!
@BouncyBrown2 жыл бұрын
@@katieanderson61 I'm from California and I've only heard about the Hamptons from movies. I just assumed it was a few ultra rich people with their own vacation house. I had no idea it was a problem. How annoying. (We get lots of tourists too.)

Same. I’m from Williamsburg, VA, and the tourism industry is INSANE there. I would be confident to bet that half of the people that work in the area work in something related to tourism, & it’s destroying the town,

I traveled this summer and picked up trash at the destination, and then I made a piece of resin jewelry from the trash I picked up (after sanitizing it). It is so beautiful, and it brings up good memories from the trip. It’s also a great conversation starter about protecting the planet. I’m now looking at other crafts and art I can make with trash I pick up in my local area. The art supplies are free, and it’s a good mind exercise to imagine new possibilities for a piece of trash.

What kind of trash did you make the jewelry out of? Part of a can? A plastic snack wrapper?

Going to second wearing a rash guard when going to the beach - my bf's sister lives in Hawaii and has mentioned that they ask people to just not wear sunscreen (presumably because the term "reef safe" is unregulated) when they are intending on going swimming.

I agree with closing the blinds "up" the way you suggest during the day but BE CAREFUL! At night, if you're on the second floor and have people walking near your place, sometimes (depending on the angle and how close you are to the window) they may be able to see you. So just do a sidewalk test at night and make sure you're fully blocking out prying eyes 😬 Speaking from personal experience 👋

Venice is having people make reservations to visit their city due to overcrowding with tourism. It’ll be interesting to see how other countries respond as more and more people are born
@turtlescanfly72 жыл бұрын
I live near Yosemite and they started restricting the number of daily visitors during the start of the pandemic. The results on trail maintenance and less trash were so good that they’re keeping restrictions. You need to have a reservation & they only keep a small amount reserved for locals who show up, but those are gone by 6am usually. I’m fully in support of this. Like sure it’s kind of a bummer I can’t take an impromptu trip but it’s totally worth it to not have trails crowded like Disneyland

For my fellow glasses wearers who need them by prescription: If you can afford it, get transition lenses. That way, you don’t have to have to get sunglasses separately and it has less of an impact because you have regular lenses and sunglasses (when you’re outdoors in the sunlight) in the same pair. However, I wouldn’t recommend transitions if you don’t like your lenses darkening every time you’re out in sunlight. I understand this isn’t the most accessible option for everyone, this is only one out of multiple options out there and you should continue using what works the best for you. /gen
@laneatkinson64412 жыл бұрын
I second this!! I got my prescription glasses w/transition lenses from Costco (without insurance) and it was surprisingly affordable, under $300 for the eye exam, frames, and lenses! I used to pay $600+ just for glasses alone at my optometrist's office.
@turtlescanfly72 жыл бұрын
Now that my prescription has stableized I found it easier to just get a separate pair. I tried transition lenses but I couldn’t take pictures outside without it looking like I was wearing sun glasses so I didn’t go back to that. That said, I just never wore sunglasses for years because my prescription changed every year and couldn’t justify buying 2 new glasses annually. I’ve finally had the same prescription for a few years and happy to finally have prescription sunglasses lol

Thanks for sharing more of your travels over on the other channel. I was always told to close my blinds upward for safety reasons. I love your videos! I'm a new viewer that just found your channel in the last week or so. I came across one of your videos while looking for help in caring for some plants I just got and you mentioned you had a degree in environmental science which immediately got my attention. I've been on a bit of a binge of your videos and I've learned so much! I love that you focus on the entire lifetime of the product and not just the packaging. I've been kind of stuck in the beginner stage mostly doing my own research and sometimes reverting to old non-sustainable products when what I find hasn't worked for me. You've already done all of this research and even have lots of options for sustainable solutions! I've already been able to make some changes like buying a pair of pants on thread up (my jeans got a hole in an awkward place) instead of going out and buying a new pair and I was even able to find a pair from my favorite brand in my size. Also you love pokemon go too =]. Thank you so much for videos and the time and effort that went into them. You're awesome!

About closing the blind up: If you close it down, the sun still can enter your house because some rays are in the blind angle. By closing it up, it is perpendicular and will reflect it outisde. The only rays that enter will be those reflec by the ground.

Great video Shelbi! thank you. I think when it comes to aloe vera plants. it works in an all-year-round warm country or places with lots of light. I used to live in the Netherlands and had many many plants. My Aloe plants only thrived in summer. in spring, autumn and winter it would wilt if I did not have the heating on full time, maybe even point grow lights on it. I'm guessing, in that case. it wouldn't be as sustainable right?? Do you have any alternatives to the treatment of sunburns sustainably if you can't house an aloe plant sustainably?

I think there's a difference between using it daily by itself as hair/skincare and using it directly on a sunburn. The plant on a sunburn is more effective than the gels, but ideally you're not using it all the time.

@laneatkinson64412 жыл бұрын
You should NEVER feel guilty about your medical waste! I work in the medical field, and disposable medical supplies are 100% necessary in order to prevent the spread of disease and ensure that people get the treatment they need. Obviously some of this can be made more eco friendly (autoclaving instruments vs disposable instruments), but that responsibility falls on medical facilities and companies that produce the supplies. It actually creates less waste to maintain your health than to neglect it and end up in the hospital. Tl;dr, you're doing the right thing by taking good care of yourself. You are worth it!! :)

@saramorris66862 жыл бұрын
Instead of menstrual cups or disks or period underwear, you could go for an implant. I've gotten one and it really reduces the time (and menstrual pain) that I get from my periods, and it lasts for 2-5 years. Some cons for me were that my implant was itchy, which left a bruising outline on my arm that's kinda obvious if I raise my arm, and you can still get your period sometimes, especially when you begin it. But it's nice to not think about it as often and not clean blood as frequently.
@ElkeThys2 жыл бұрын
I've had 2 implants. The 1st one worked great for 3 years; my periods just stopped. I had to remove the 2nd implant due to the fact that my periods never ever stopped and I was bleeding all the time. Stange how the same product can give such different reactions.
