I'm using a fake one. It wouldn't surprise me if that thing is as old as I am, because I inherited it from my grandparents.

Growing up we didn’t always have the money or space for a Christmas tree so instead my parents would take us to pick out a small rosemary tree that would become a part of our garden after the holidays were over. Many of my childhood rosemary Christmas trees are now beautiful bushes that still live in our garden today 💚

I love the Petterson and Finsus version where you screw holes in a long piece of wood or sturdy branch and put smaller real branches into the holes

Me and my bf (now fiance) got a tree 3 years ago when we first moved in together. We splurged so we would have a tree that we could for a long time, hopefully forever! 🥰 And we still adore it because it's so sentimental

We have a fake tree that we've had for decades now, along with decorations that we also have had for many years, some of which were made by our kids when they were in school. The tree and all the decorations get stored in a chest that we use as a coffee table year round, and then is brought out for the month of December. When our kids were very little, and it was time to put the tree away, we told them the tree was tired from holding up decorations for a whole month, and needed to sleep the rest of the year.

A reminder to those who own a fake tree already. It is more sustainable to keep using it than trying to make a new, alternative tree. Especially if you will need to buy new items for making it.

I think one of the wildest things that contributes to over consumption is “aesthetics” because younger women will choose aesthetics like “cottagecore” then buy a million outfits, room decorations, Starbucks drinks etc as that aesthetic then switch to goth aesthetic and start over. It’s insane

Growing up my family had a fake tree because my little brother gets VIOLENTLY ill (as in hospitalized) because he was allergic to the pine. Now in an apartment my Dad made me a "piece it together" tree out of 2 pieces of ply wood with a slot in each so you can stick them together to have it out and store flat when not out. Saves us a lot of space in the closet!

When my husband and I got married we lived in a one room apartment and didn’t have much money. So we made one out of my husbands old/broken drumsticks that he collected. It looked wonderful and saved space since we could hang it on the wall. Ten years and two kids later we are still using it 😊 …. Aaaaaand get compliments all the time!!!

My family uses an artificial tree. We keep ours until it falls apart and store it in the garage when not in use. We inherited an artificial tree from my grandparents and continued to use it until it fell apart and the lights on it didn’t work. We got another artificial tree after that and have used it each year ever since.

I highly recommend the living Christmas tree company. You can rent a tree. Eventually when the tree can no longer be rented, it gets planted in the wild.

Idk how true that actually is. At some point I bought a tree in a pot, thinking that I could keep it outside in the garden during the year, instead of buying a new one every year. even though I only kept it inside for about four days, it ended up dying very quickly. I did some research and read everywhere that it's really difficult to keep a tree in a pot alive and that it's only really an option if you have a winter garden where you can keep it during the holidays instead of taking it inside the house and even then you can't use it for much longer than a couple of years before you have to plant it outside. Long story short, I can't imagine that most of these trees that get rented out actually survive any longer than one christmas season. But take this with a grain of salt because I'm by no means an expert. This is just my own experience and stuff I've read on the internet.
