Great video Ethony. I would add two decks I love that are more advanced because of departures from RWS or Thoth systems. First, the round feminist deck Motherpeace by Karen Vogel and Vicki Noble and second, The Shamanistic deck, The Shining Woman/Tribe by Rachel Pollock. Do much to learn from both of them.

I don’t know the Shamanistic deck, seems interesting. I'd add also the Witches Wisdom Tarot by my Wiccan teacher Phyllis Curott, which is not for beginners, because it has the Fool's journey reversed, and also the meanings of Minor Arcana are a bit different.

My first deck was The Triple Goddess which is a Rider Waite clone, my 2nd deck was Dreams of Gaia. It is a beautiful deck and I actually found it fairly easy to work with.

I have most of these decks, as well, and I would agree with you that they are sometimes for the more experienced reader🙌🏼 Although, sometimes a newbie can just pick up a deck and go with whatever comes to them, LOL💜💜💜

Thanks Ethony, this was very interesting. I have three of the decks you mentioned - but I would like to get the fountain deck. I love the artwork - it reminds me a bit of the Ananda Tarot deck which is the one I use the most. Also I am tempted to get the Chrysalis Tarot now!

I have a few of those and I see a few more I want but I'll wait because I'm only months old in tarot reading. But something interesting about the Wild Unknown..when I first got it about in my second week of studying RWS the WU just seemed like this unholy nightmare. I didn't see how anyone got anything out of it and figured the set would end up as a "decoration " . Then after about 6 weeks of studying and playing with all kinds of rws clones I decided to have another look at it. And suddenly I could read it! It was so straightforward. And the guidebook is nice too. But what I like about the animal deck is that when you take humans out the equation there's something that instantly relaxes in your brain. I had a great time with that deck and now I can see why people like it. But I would use my "people" decks 90 percent of the time. It's not a regular use deck to me.

thanks for the list. Just picked up the Fountain Tarot after I saw this... Been on the fence with it, but you convinced me that it is an advanced system to learn from. Also considering the Starchild tarot as well, but will put that one on the list for next time. ;)

these are all nice decks but the only ones that seemed to jive with me is the Starchild and Dreams of Gaia tarot. Maybe I'm an oddball lol

A way to take advantage of different meanings, example, 6 of pentacles generosity but in other deck is explotation, you can use more than one deck for a reading. I place the decks in order and always take cards in that order for the celtic cross. Remember that most Tarots follow the Rider Waite. Sometimes we want different language and if some decks provide a different meaning, we are expanding this language. This comes in handy when the client chooses a particular deck, then it makes the message more personal, "See this card normally means this but here it means X..how do you connect with this meaning?" The most important for me is that I connect with the Art and theme. I am always looking for different interpretations. When a card has two backs, I give it the meaning of blockage, even presentation cards I give meaning and use them, if they have the same back as the deck.

Okay, cool! I got a little paranoid for a second hahaha. I love the artwork and I feel like I can get a sense of what each card is saying, and for the most part it's been pretty accurate. It's very inspiring and works really well for self readings!:)

Just realizing you are drawn to something is the first step. Sometimes I am drawn to certain cards that don't necessarily make sense in the moment; but you will truly understand later on.
