Daniel, thank you so much for the brilliant idea to share your knowledge on the internet, especially with such a technical and well informed approach! I am sure all of us are extremely grateful for the tips and help you provide here! I remember being in my last years of high school when I first stumbled upon one of your videos. I believe it was the recording of Don Juan orchestral excerpt. Especially at that time I was blown away by your performance and it meant a lot to me while I was trying to learn that same passage. For that I am very grateful and at the same time I am happy to see that your evolvement on youtube has grown even more! I was wondering, beside all the informative videos about violin playing, I am sure many us would find it incredible to see a video in which you talk a bit about your audio equipment and post processing setup. There isn’t much (helpful) information on the internet about recording oneself as a string player and process the files in a way that they sound professional, as it does in your videos... I am very curious to see if you would consider this a good video idea for youtube and I will for sure tune in for your upcoming activity on this platform! All the best!

I'm so glad you've found the videos useful! I can't wait to have 100+ under my belt :) Great idea about audio setup/processing. I have several recording sessions coming up, so I think I will do some "recording tips at the studio and at home" and talk about microphones, positioning, audio processing, etc. Best wishes.

As a non violinist I have gained lots from your videos. Thanks. Great patience, wonderful examples and an always constructive demonstration. Perhaps you have this on your radar: how variable vibrato needs to be? To make vibrato a genuinely expressive component of violin playing. Players whose use of vibrato doesn't change make me wonder what is actually expressive about it? One simple example: in any phrase is the peak and shaping of the phrase aided by the vibrato used? Another question which fascinates is does the initial vibrato movement "frame" the vibrato's effects? - Where this video is heading. Thanks again. t
@DanielKurganov4 жыл бұрын
You are definitely correct - vibrato is an expressive tool as any other and needs to change with the ebb and flow if the music. I made a video called The Creative Process where I touch on some of the dynamic and variable tools we use for expression. This vibrato serious is meant more as a technical analysis. If the vibrato is flexible strong and well-controlled, all expressive uses and variations become more easily achievable.

Here's a way to strengthen and improve flexibility of your fingers: Practice without the violin. You can do it anywhere and anytime. And as often as you want.
@DanielKurganov2 жыл бұрын
I would not recommend that. The kind of 'exercises' you do would likely work the fingers in the wrong way and probably cause more problems. The issue is that the kind of physical motion that is demanded of our fingers is unlike anything we do in any other activities in life, essentially. So, there aren't really any useful 'traditional' exercises. That said, if you want to walk around with a stick and practice finger articulation on it from time to time, why not :)
