Sorry to hear what you have been going through. Most important thing to remember is that you are not alone and that people care. Take a bold step and get back to creating as this is a very therapeutic way of doing something you enjoy and marvelling at the outcome. I'm sure those around you will love your pieces and most of all you will enjoy looking back at them. Keep crafting and enjoy every moment of it. Hugs x

ByHisDesign i am so sorry to hear about your suffering! I too have sever anxiety and panic attacks. Luckily with counseling and medication I have found "peace" most of the time. well , maybe 65 percent o fthe time. But i have to say art will help! It always helps me! After my mother passed away last year i wanted to crawl in a dark place and never come out. Art helped me every step of the way! That is when i finally started art journaling. I have never shown the pages I made in that period. They are much too personal to share. But they helped me oh so much. I am thinking of you Honey and i hope you find some peace and light soon! I know it doesn't go away overnight, it's a journey! all my love to you!

HOLY SMOLY! If this was a criminal court, I'd be guilty and sentenced to life! The worst ones for me are the "watching of so many videos" and then ordering like crazy all of the products! I guess I believe if I have the products, I'll be sooo talented! ha,ha! My daughter said it perfectly, "mom you just like to shop"! I tease my family and friends that if they need anything, don't go to the store or Amazon until you first check my craft room :D Thank you Maremi for all of your wonderful advice and support. I just may cancel all of my millions of video subscriptions and just watch one or two, with you being the first one I keep. Again thanks and Big Hugs to you and yours.

I have one bottle of runny white liquid gesso, four page sized stencils, tons of washi tape (i'm a passion planner too! Lol.. That too I've collected and bought so much for and still have the planet I bought in the summer and have only done one page in it!), I've got acrylic paint in tubs after tubs (from when my kids were little not so long ago) and I have one ink pad and a few wooden stamps (i want the clear blocks and the removable stamps ) and I have tons of paper from the art stores. Yet I've only created three projects and I watch video after video and never get started!

Arts and crafts have been my passion since childhood I even went to art school but sadly as I got older some bad experiences made me lose my confidence. Thank you for this video, Marta! You have given such sound advice for all of us. We are all different and are in different places in life. Comparing ourselves among ourselves destroys what lies within each of us and inhibits what we really can do. The freedom to be creative in our own way is so important. You are right on!!!!

Thank you! Basically, you just explained how to do mixed media. The most important point you stated, and I totally agree with, PLAY AND HAVE FUN. This video was just what I needed to see and hear. I have attempted to start an art journal several time, but my page was just coming out a mess. I left it for a day and came back to it, adding a flower or two, a little shading and finally a few liquid pearls and voila!! A page that I enjoy.... Of course, it's not anything fabulous, but it makes me happy. I enjoy all your videos so much. I feel like I have found a new friend. Thanks for being there.

Love listening/watching your videos. You're so relaxed and true to yourself. Watching lots of youtube at the moment as we recently retired and moved house. The last room is in the process of being unpacked and sorted with KZbin in breaks. It's my art/craft room. Apart from acrylic paints for pouring, I'm not buying anything else!! I've dipped a toe into leatherwork, knitting (I keep forgetting how to cast on!! lol), clay pottery, etching and moasics; paddled in beading, tapestry, parchment craft (pergamano), quilling, crossstich, patchwork quilting, making videos, collage and origami; and waded into scrapbooking, photography and cooking especially cakes and fudge. I have product and tools that go back over the last 3-4 decades! You talked about 2-5 years. I'm talking 30-40yrs. This time is different. All other times I did my activities with groups - at someone else's home or in a church hall so everything was packed for easy travel. This time it's being sorted so I can see what I've got and I will use it across art/craft areas. So looking forward to it. 💙💜💙

Marta!!! Just wanted to tell you again how much I love your videos and love how much you care to help us! You're such a beautiful soul, you've really inspired me to get back to my art and start creating again. Since 2011, when I graduated college, I have hardly touched art. I do some photography here and there but I have found myself slowly moving farther and farther away from art. Over time (even back then) I'd watch others and find myself wishing I could do what they did, like I wasn't good enough to do it, etc. You really speak to me and I'm so happy that I found your channel! Please do keep creating art and videos, as long as it brings you joy, of course! Thank you again so much ♥!

Xxx great... I'm a total believer in no rules as I knew nothing at all about mixed media when I first thought wow I need to do that and wholly enjoyed the process of "making mistakes " . How else do we learn. True you tubes are enjoyable but not the holy grail of creativity. The joy is being free , when you start worrying all the time and comparing your own creativity to others the joy is lost .... I particularly love your channel because you have such joy in what you do and it's infectious. Much love Marta x

Hi Marta, I have been following you since the first video of yours I watched and have been a fan since then as well. This video was brilliant and I'm sure you will and have helped many people with it. I watched tutorials for over 3 years, saved videos, printed off pics, made lists, schedules, etc on techniques to try and shopped to the point that my craft room became a museum of possibilities collecting dust. Last year was the worst year of my life due to some very difficult circumstances and by December I knew I needed to start creating or I would break. So now my years of "research & collecting" are finally paying off lol! I've finally started a blog, channel, etc. to join and be a member of the creative world instead of a spectator longing to be. Thank you for all of the inspiration you've provided, especially last year. Sometimes when we're going through difficult times seeing/watching something beautiful come to life is the only light in our day, and it's a necessary connection that you can never put a price on. Looking forward to continuing watching and learning from you - Hugs

great video Maremi this is some really good advice not just for mixed media but for all arts, i think a lot of people are put off of drawing and painting because they think other people are just good at it and that they should just be naturally good at it, they don't realize that those people have spent most of their lives practicing and that art is something you can become good at.

Thank you for bringing to awareness that we would do well to be mindful about how we practice creativity while emphasizing the simple joy of creating art or "arting". Nice tips as well with the glue tips and color wheel and clean up advice... basic but good to review. I appreciated your open honest positivity and vulnerability. I challenge any artist to deny that if they do not do art.... they get a little sideways. Yup, you know it is true. In this sense creativity ( and you tube as a home for us) is therapy for all of us. Mmmmmhmmm, you know it is true. Art on.. no fear! Be good to yourself and others. YES!

Marta, I love this video and I am guilty of ALL 15 points. Just this past month I have jumped into a huge journal I made from a coffee table book and I have learned so much from your you-tubes. I will show you very soon my results. Our good friend Teri told me to have more confidence in myself and I am totally enjoying the process!!

I want to know how on earth 41 people hit "thumbs down"??? WTH? What is wrong with people? I don't get it. You are so inspirational Marta. You are so insightful. THere are so many things I've learned from you. Not all craft related either. One thing I find so wonderful about you and you may not realize it but you are responsible for keeping the crafting and art world alive and growing. There are so many people that watch your videos and you have quite a few that are aimed at showing what you can do with very few supplies or either very cheap type, supplies. Not artist quality that maybe lots of people starting out or just thinking about trying to get crafty wouldn't have on hand. It is something that I've not seen many other artists at all try to teach. That is why I kept meaning to write you before now and let you know that, I am one of those people that collects things instead of using them. I am working on changing that but there are plenty that may have their kids water color set from Crayola and then some markers and that may be about it. But you show how you can create some wonderful art just with those basic supplies. Or even old make up you can take out of your bathroom cabinet and put that in your crafting space. You just are always so up beat, entertaining, encouraging and just a whole lot of fun to be around. I enjoy all of your videos immensely. I have joined your facebook cafe group but unfortunately I am not on FB as much because I spend all of my time on youtube watching videos. Yep, that's me, one of those people you spoke of that watches videos instead of creating. I am going to do better though. I now have youtube on TV through our cable company so I can be at my desk crafting as I watch and then I can follow along. Just wanted to let you know how much you mean to me and I know to so many others out there. Much love!

Mistake No. 10: I'm so happy to have found your channel. I can watch all your videos not once, but twice. You are so inspiring, such a gentle voice, which soothes me, during my tough time after cancer treatments and thus insomnia. Going on to your "How to break a blank page video now", (repeating No. 10 mistake again lol). Who knows, maybe I can start creating together with you. Thank you so much for all you do. Take care

Breath Maremi, you are doing a great job of making art accessible to so many people. You do it in a way that does not talk down to beginners which is so needed. You say we should take care of ourselves, but you need to do that to. You have a gift in teaching. This was a very good video with a lot of excellent suggestions to all of us about enjoying the process rather that getting stressed about it. You are right, there are so many stresses out there in our lives, art should be the one place we don't feel that. It is for me. I don't post my things for others because I do it for me. Showing it, pinning it, selling it is art done for others. Art is for me. So I treat it as 'do I like this' or what one new thing did I see in this video I might like to try. I don't look to create other's projects. If I do what they did, I lose my originality - the things that define 'my style'. Thank you for this video Maremi. Please take good care of yourself too. GG

So true. I can identify with so many of those things. Especially buying too much and not use them cause I'm afraid to "ruin" the supplies. I just got a ton of Valentine's collections still in the boxes they came in. I saw someone on you tube using them and couldn't stand not having the "new" stuff. I'm going to take your advice & create. Be it amateur or a little better, I'm going to create

This was one of the first of your videos I watched when I first started mixed media/journaling in January. It was so helpful and I thought to re watch for inspiration and it totally worked. I have been stressing over my journals and I know I shouldn't. I am going to relax about it now. Thank you for your words of wisdom dear Marta

This is so on the mark. I watch so many videos and not creating much. It's like a fantasy I keep thinking about it and get no satisfaction from Creating. I'm 76 yrs in a senior center and a wheel chair, unable to go shopping and All my money does to my care, I do have access to newspapers, magazines, and glue. I could do something. U really encouraged me with u ideas. You r so pretty so positive And I love u accent. Keep up the excellent videos. Lv🌈🦋💓

You sweet, caring thing. The way you got emotional undid me and had me crying. Lip quivering and all. Thank you for always sharing who you are, it's one of the many special things about you. And everything you discussed, I'm guilty of so thank you for the reminders. Very inspirational. Since you ask for suggestions, my personal struggle is what to do after a background has been done. I go blank w focal points and embellishments... xoxo

Painted through the whole thing, like I usually do something while I have the video on (computer desk is also craft desk!) and it helps cos I can watch videos a few times to catch everything. Good points in this one, I do need to stop the ADHD hyperfocus (it's kind of like tunnel vision that you can't break out of) and at least remember to get a glass of water from time to time!

My computer desk is also a craft desk. Sometimes I feel I'm limited with creativity because I have a small area to work with. But as long as you're in the zone...size doesn't really matter. As marta says. Be creative, be yourselves!

Cristina Henrich me too! I have to gather all my supplies from room to room and by the time I'm done and it's all laid out I'm too tired to mess with it so it sits cluttered on my table, bed, floor, office (which is literally a tiny bathroom sized porch my dad enclosed and made into a "office"years ago when I worked from home from my step mom. I have to go thru my kiss room to get to it! As their room is my grandmother's old sun room (used to be her home, she passed away and my dad begged us to move in so he didn't have to let the house go back to the bank cuz he lived across the street and we were struggling just starting our family then and our landlord then was trying so hard to get us out so his daughter could have our house). So we moved here and now as a family of four its entirety too small. Son and daughter share a room which I'm told is illegal. But my fiance doesn't care. He gets this "rent free" (he's SUPPOSED to be paying three hundred dollars a month to my dad but for fourteen years he rarely has! And with my health issues I cannot work. Hence why I'm trying to start doing mixed media, makeup, and planning. To find my niche and also make some money working from home doing what I love). Yet it's so small here and I'm always stressed, in pain from my back and fibro and various other health issues and I can't move in with my dad like he wants bc he's way too controlling. So I'm sick in this tiny house for us and resenting my fiance mooching off of my father and I. And everytime I try to get creative I find I'm several tools or mediums or ingredients if you will, short. Argh!

I feel your pain! I've lived in very small spaces too. I'm also cursed with chronic pain. What I've found helpful is 1) scale back the size and scope of your projects. Start with ATCs and one day just concentrate on texturing the backgrounds with gesso and texture paste. Next day add some card, other bits and pieces, next day add some colour etc. This way you keep the cost down, and the complicated mess down. Work on a tray and maybe 20 or 30 ATCs. 2) On a budget - buy a big cheap bottle of white acrylic paint - use this as gesso - I've found NO DIFFERENCE. You can make your own texture paste from glue, white acrylic paint and baby powder. Expensive brands are usually no better than cheap brands. I've tried a lot out and 80% cheap brands are just as effective. I think the main exception to this is PVA glue which varies a lot. I use Duo 2 which is thick, doesn't yellow and is very cost-effective. Wishing you well and I hope you're able to be creative soon because it's excellent therapy! xx
