PARENTS are not a monolith, every parent is an individual. However, ALL parents are responsible for the actions of their children until they turn the LEGAL age of 18.

The idea you try to put blame on parenting, rather than the individual is absurd…. Humans are born with their own brain. They choose for themselves what they will do in their own life…. No matter what age they are! No matter what discipline you give, there will always be the personal choice of the individual…………

@@cosmo5102 until a child is 18, parents MUST be responsible for the health of their child, mental AND physical. This girl was not healthy in the mental aspect and her parents ignored it which led to this shooting. It was a culmination of her own thoughts and feelings that she maybe couldn’t let loose. She needed a psychotherapist and a psychiatrist from the looks of it.

Who else thinks being a 15-year old kid from a turbulent broken home (divorced parents remarried and try again only to divorce a second time) In the midst of a Christian school with conservative evangelical leanings might create deep emotional and moral conflicts for an adolescent? In no way justifying what she did, but there are dynamics at play here that could exacerbate any existing mental health issues.

The “best interest of the child” factors need revision. It’s common sense that a 50/50 schedule where the child has no home base, is not healthy for anyone, much less for a child who is dealing with the parents divorcing. Praying for those families forever changed by this tragedy. May God guide them through. Amen.

And at this point, so many people have so many guns, it seems unlikely this will ever end. The only thing I can think of that maybe Republicans could go for, is to pass a law that keeps kids from being allowed to handle or use guns. It’s always kids that go to rifle ranges and seem to have gun enthusiast parents. But, maybe I’m naive to think a law like that could pass. Idk.

@ Obviously she was able to get possession of a 9mm handgun. At this stage of what we know the father probably has no legal consequences. - Wisconsin has a law that makes it illegal to a minor 14 or below to have access to a gun. She was 15. - Wisconsin has a law that makes it illegal to loan or give possession of a gun to a minor. If he did not give her possession of it no law broken. Does he have responsibility YES but seems as if no law was broken.

@@JaneJetsin "Parental responsibility laws hold parents legally responsible for their minor children's actions. These laws can apply to a variety of situations, including: Property damage, Personal injury, Theft, Shoplifting, Vandalism, Accidents, Malicious acts, Delinquency, Internet and computer crimes, and Firearm access."
@JaneJetsin21 сағат бұрын
@ I think you are stretching the concept WAY BEYOND the actual law. You are absolutely correct that parents are held CIVILLY liable for damages like in your examples property damage, personal injury, theft, vandalism etc. but I know there is no federal law or state law holding the parent CRIMINALLY liable for a minors actions. Civilly liable means they can be sued to pay for damages. There is no incarceration penalty in a civil trial. The only acceptation is if there was gross neglect as in the case of Ethan Crumbly or they contributed to the delinquency of a minor by encouraging an illegal act. As I pointed out before Wisconsin has a law making it a criminal offense to allow a 14 year old firearm access or loaning a firearm or allowing them possession of a firearm if they are under 18. Since she was 15 unless it can be proven that the father allowed sole possession of the firearm to her he broke no state law. Specifically under Wisconsin law a 15 year old can be left in a safe environment without adult supervision for reasonable periods of time. Since that is the case they specifically passed the law that a 15 year old minor could have access to firearms to protect themselves at home. So you are correct that they could be sued in civil court for damages but you are incorrect that they can be criminally charged. I understand your feelings but factually you are incorrect about criminal responsibility just because she had access. In fact what you suggest specifically violates our constitutional right to both equal protection clause and due process clause. You can not be prosecuted for the crimes of another unless you directly participate. They are specifically protected by Wisconsin state law because she is 15.
