15 year Time lapse of old Oak tree

Watch the seasons change in this time lapse of an old Oak tree (Quercus robur).
I didn't mean this to be a time lapse when I first took the photos so unfortunately they are not perfectly aligned. I used photoshop to align the trees as much as possible but it was not possible to align the background as well :(
The sounds is the call of the nightingale, progressively slowed down. Contrary to someone's belief, it is not a car alarm :)

What an amazing video. Have you tried your morphing software on these pictures to see how the results look? This video by itself is already amazing as it is but seeing your other content, the morphing thing is interesting too and i'm curious about how it would look It would also be awesome to see just the outline of the tree growing through the years, but maybe the small differences in perspective wouldn't make it accurate. Props to you for taking these beautiful pictures across all those years, and hope it's still an ongoing project! Love this, and it is something that seems very unique on youtube. I'm trying to find year-long timelapses of trees growing and I can't seem to find many

Thank you. It's really good to have someone show an interest in this. I did try it with the morphing software but it made the branches look as if they were bending and wobbling, which didn't look so good. The morphing is not easy to do and very time consuming so I gave it up. Since I have moved to a new place, not so near the tree, I've had to stop taking regular photos of it, which is a shame.

Thanks for your nice comment. The main problem for this tree is that the farmer ploughs the field too close to it, damaging its delicate roots. 😒

Thanks, David. Glad you enjoyed it. It's actually Keith Hill tower in the background, which is remarkably similar. It's the highest point in the Home Counties, built on a whim simply to reach 1000 feet above sea level.

It's in a village called Ockley, south of London. It is sad that modern farming has damaged it buy ploughing the delicate roots near the surface of the ground. Since I finished the video, part of it has died. 😞

Thank you. When I first started taking these photos, digital cameras didn't exist outside of large institutions. I used a Hasselblad medium format film camera. At the end I was using a Canon 5DSR.

I noticed the gradual dieback of the branches over the course of the footage because the dead branches got shorter and shorter. I first thought It was an unhealthy tree based on this observation, but I soon realized that the ends of those branches were breaking off at most 3 feet every year or too, and the tree is huge. I guess I've learned how the coming of age looks like on a tree!

Yes, it's still alive but unfortunately it is suffering because the farmer ploughs the field too close to its delicate roots. I took the photos on average once every 3 months. To make the video last longer I made it go back in time as well as forward.
