Great conversation!! I’m Jamaican born living here in the US over 30 years and the last few years my heart is tugging me to return permanently. I do visit yearly but I’m not at peace as when I’m there. My goal is to permanently return within next 3-4 years. I lived in New York for over 20 years and was sick of it, now in Florida over 10 years, and still no peace of mind. I’m so proud of Jamaica, growing and thriving and so want to be a part of it. 🙏🇯🇲🥰

Moving to anywhere in the world is a challenge. However in my opinion peace of mind should be the driving force, unfortunately too often we trade peace of mind for economics. Keep in mind one thing if you are running away from the "man" in the mirror then moving is not the way to go since that "man" will always be there. If you truly want to relocate start with the reason for your relocation, then think about housing, economics, a supportive community or are you someone who can just throw caution to the wind and go. Whatever your reason I believe Throp has open up the dialogue and has giving some really good insights. So last time I mentioned forming a coalition what I should have said is an exploratory committee. Luckily we don't have to reinvent the wheel Throp is planning one, so we should all sign on and be part of it. I look forward to being in a space with like minded ppl and wishing all of us a successful return. Thanks again for a really great upload. Nice to learn a little more about you. Stay well...until the next.

Not surprised I left Jamaica when I was 14 yrs old to live in the U. K. and I was taken aback when I returned for the first time in 1991 with my family and I was regarded as a Foreign 😀 that made me mad 😡 but I would not allow that to dampen my spirit. I love My country but not fund of some of the people but I guess that’s every where. I am now in U. S. not sure if I can return to live but I do enjoy extended time there when I can. I am now 72 and yes I speak my native Jamaican with family and friends but In my business life English and feel proud of myself. Jamaican born but extended life abroad I hope you guys find a wonderful time living in Jamaica 🇯🇲 it’s a fantastic place to be so be blessed.

Love these interviews, and the different perspectives. I love Jamaica, and visit often yearly, some time more. Love Calabash Literary Festival in Treasure Beach St Elizabeth 😍😎 Having lived in the UK, Since I was 14yrs, it was a tough decision not to retire back in Jamaica. But I feel totally at home here in London, so much easier to travel to some of my favourite European countries, and other Caribbean Island. I see London as my main course, and Jamaica, and Barbados 🇧🇧 as my Dessert. Best of both worlds. However, Covid has put a big dent in my travels; but hey we are all in the same boat right now. Just booked my first theatre date, big musical n the West end, since Covid.

Great interview. Good to hear your story, and you’re right about soooo… many things: 1. Certain things in Jamaica you cannot change; so you will be the one who has to adapt; 2. Building a community of likeminded people is critical since, unfortunately, you will always be seen as a foreigner; 3. The freedom you feel is unparalleled and the lifestyle you can lead surpasses that which you can lead in the Diaspora; 4. We don’t appreciate the things right in front of us… until they are gone!! I, for one, cannot wait to move back to Jamaica… again!!

Brov I like your aspirations, this is a wonderful interview, I have some of my aunts and uncles who live in the States and Canada still think Jamaica is backwards and they were all born and grown up in Jamaica and migrated around 40 years, they will never visit Jamaica they still look at Jamaica as very backward, Jamaica is still my home and is shows and interviews like yours inspires me, it nice listening to you knowing that you were born in the States and came to Jamaica and still in Jamaica for 17 years and find peace, whenever I do visit as I am in Europe I do find my peace and belonging even though where I do stayed there is not much of any urban feel it is deep rural, I still fit in and adjusted and find my peace, when it's time to leave it's like a piece of me had been ripped apart. I do like your resilience spirit and you never let negativity distracted you.

I was told numerous times to check out your channel and i won’t lie … i hesitated, not for any particular reason tho. This segment came on my thread and i decided to check it out. I’m so glad i took the plunge! I’m about to make the biggest move of my life… moving to JA. My story is different-I was born in Trinidad, but grew up in the US. I don’t know much about Trinidad and I don’t relate. I’ve been surrounded by Jamaicans in the US and therefore relate to their culture rather than the Trini or US. When I’m in Ja.. i feel at peace and i would like to end my story right there living my dream. I’m so done with the rat race of corp America. I call it the ‘slave-ship’. Well…. Man overboard!!! I do intend to open my business in Ja and live happily ever after. And yes i do know i will have to adapt to a lot of things .. like why do i have to stand in line at a bank for hours!!!! Whyyyyyy… lol. Either way … i looo forward to your interviews, etc and i think you have something great going in here! It would be great to have a network of ‘foreigners’ come together!! I respect your no nonsense attitude, and how articulate you are! Great job!!!!

I was born in Jamaica and joined my parents in the UK as a 2nd generation immigrant. After living here in the UK for over 50 years and still not experiencing a sense of belonging and wellbeing you get itchy feet and look to relocate back to Jamaica or elsewhere. I came across your channel and found it extremely interesting. My mother has relocated to Mandeville like many wind rush generations who came to the UK in the early 50's 60's. However there is no seas in Mandeville which I love and appears more to me as a retiring city more than anything else. I have friends living in Hanover and family living in Trelawney and Runaway Bay but found it hard to decide on which city would suit me the best. I take your advice that I would need to spend at least 30 days or more to get a real feel of Jamaica beyond just being a tourist. I think many people particularly since Covid, is looking to return to their roots and are moving away from the big cities of the world where many Jamaicans had migrated to in the past. Good programme keep up the good work.

It was both for sure but I also don't think I truly appreciated the type of 180 in life that I was about to experience. This is a real life case of ignorance is bliss. I didn't mentally prepare myself or mentally walk through what I might experience and measure my expectations. I was young and didn't have the maturity or presence of mind to truly think through my decision of moving to Jamaica. I let me gut and spirt lead me which forced me to mentally work through transitional process in real time. I couldn't appreciate what I was going through in the moment. It wasn't until years later that I am able to look back and understand my mindset and what I went through as a young person

Listening to the conversation with both of you with Jamaican fathers 👨, New York city is a very bad place. My father moved from England 🇬🇧 in 1970 to New York city and, that place was the murder capital of the world. It only calmed down a bit when Rudy Gulina become mayor of the city, but it was a very dangerous place to lived. Violence now is a worldwide phenomenon, is not only in Jamaica like. How I heard 👂 some people is really portraying, about the Violence in Jamaica 🇯🇲 alone. Right now they are giving you a map with the most dangerous cities, in the United States. Places like New York city, New Jersey, Washington DC, Florida, Miami Dade County, Philadelphia, California Texas, just to mentioned a few of them. The cost of living is very much out of control, the cheapest gas ⛽ now is $3.09 for the cheapest gas. Which is regular, the rent is very expensive, also the mortgage. The food stuffs is out of control, the light bill is raised you named it. Things is very much out of control, most of the malls is closed down, only the bigger businesses is operating. The smaller businesses is all locked down, I don't believed that things. Will ever gets back to normal in the United States, it is going to take years. Millions of people is homeless living on the streets side, sleeping under the bus stops. It is really a terrible situation is,going on in the United States now. Everyday it is multiple shooting, all over the country. That is why a lot of people is leaving the United States, because you are not safe at all. I have worked in the security sector for 24years, so I have witnessed a lot of things.

@Sade Jones I tried to understand what you were saying, and I couldn't get it at all. Whatever I am writing ✍, I am writing ✍ from personal experiences. I am not writing ✍ from what I heard other people is saying, because I know what am saying. It is of a fact,so I dont haveto listened to what some people is talking and. Becaused some of them is very prejudice against some of Jamaican people, because they are always saying some negative things about Jamaicans people. At some time and , on several occasions I was called nagga. By the same black people them, also I was told to go back to Jamaica. The white people called me nigga too, there is too much racism in the United States 👍. Especially by the police officers them, on several occasions working 💪 as a security supervisor. Police officers come on post trying to harassed me ,because I am a black man 👨 and. According to them, all black men is a suspects. It is a terrible situation living in the United States as a black person, you don't know about the other day. Becaused you can loose your life as a bird 🐦, because the police will stop you for no apparent reasons. Becaused of the racism if you are seeing in certain white neighborhoods, I have experienced a few of it as a security supervisor. Working into certain neighborhoods, nobody called them, but they want to come on post 📫 and asking me for my ID.Although am properly dressed in uniform, but I video tapes it, and send it to my company.Living in the United States as a black person, it like you are living into a communist country. Although I never lived in one, but the way you are treated as a black person. According to what heard about communist countries, it is like you are experiencing one. So what is so ironic when a black person is critizing Jamaica 🇯🇲, and is born country, you are not recognized as a black person at all.

Throp , l really do enjoy your channel. It is very empowering to various people all over the world. Jamaica has alot to offer, to the various people who chose to live, or visit there. Since watching KZbin my eyes has been opening up to how beautiful Jamaica is. There are places, beaches, waterfalls and Historical relics to be visited. Every town is very unique, they just need some more interstructure to make them beautiful. They need Apartment Complexes, Small Gated Communities, Guest Houses, Banks, Restaurants, etcs. Jamaica needs people who are willing to invest to make the place better. Throp keep up the good work.

You can't win for loosing lol! It's the Jamaican mindset unfortunately. Be yourself Throp. I know so many Jamaicans who've lived in the UK for so long and still with a strong Jamaican accent and only speak patwa (patois) we just don't seem to understand that it works both ways. Such brilliant discussion.

@Empress and @Lord Wray no intention to mislead, but I recognize a transition to Jamaica for me is iterative and thoughtful. I have a middle schooler and scarce community in JA. A few things I have committed to in the short term is frequent visits (staying in different parts of the island), a job transition that offer significant flexibility, and real estate and funding research for geo-locations of interest. I appreciate the curiosity and hope this helps clarify where I am on my journey. Blessings🙏🏽
