We found/bought our 1993 gozzard 31, Grace Note, in the pnw five years ago. Never heard of gozzard before, but fell in love with our boat. 3 years ago we moved aboard full time and next week we will be in Ensenada. The gozzard 31 feels as spacious as any other 37-40 foot boat. It is small enough so hubby and I can each easily single hand sail. Great boat!

Great video. I love plastic, give me fiberglass over wood any day. Easier to clean and maintain, and usually better to access parts of the boat, then a full wood interior.

The Gozzard looks awesome. Glad to see there are still newer boats like that. The Swan was also superb. I have to believe someone's goring to be trilled to get that. Last spring I bought a Nauticat 44. I know you did an episode on them, but I'm not sure if you've ever been in one. I'd recommend that you try to get on one if you get a chance. It's really about comfort while at sea rather than comfort at a marina. The pilot house eliminates "the cave" feel of sailboats and the models with the sliding side doors let a lot of air through that pilot house. It's awesome to have the "outdoor feel" while still being inside. The downside is that it sails like a "pig". BUT the older ones have big low RPM motors that will go 20,000 hours before an overhaul is required, and they're good for a few overhauls. While the 40' Beneteau's will easily outsail me, I see them slamming into the waves while I'm barely feeling them. I swear that after being on the Nauticat with that pilot house, I can't stand the notion of having a sailboat where you're either outside or in "the cave".

awesome comment! I'm not a sailor but intend to be one day. I absolutely agree with your view on having the pilot house vs the grotto setup

Got to say a Gozzard is so much better of a boat than an island packet. I brokered a Swan 46mk1 about 4 years ago and let's face it's a Bentley or Aston Martin that floats. I sailed to Chicago Mac's on the boat and one was a gear buster upwind. My wife commented that the boat didn't pound. My son heard the comment and said "the waves see it's a Swan and get out of the way". I've brokered Swans, Baltic, Wauquiez, and Grand Soleil (think Italian Swan). But people come up always say what great boats Swan are and they would be correct.

Years ago I was in the business. During a visit to my boatyard, Pat Sturgeon told me of a client that had a CS 36 on the market for some time. The client had called Pat and said that he wanted to have the lowest-priced CS 36 currently on the market. Pat thought of buying the boat for himself because it looked pretty nice but he had the strength to call in a surveyor because he knew he was wearing the "Rose Coloured Glasses." I told that story to many, many customers.

There is a nice 40ish Gozzard locally. They are very nice boats - much nicer than an Island Packet. That Swan is also a nice boat, but you expect that because it is "A Swan". Nice to see two quality boats.

Re: the Gozzard: The interior is unique! 31' you say?! Like the idea of opening up the "V" for living space! Woodwork is immaculate.... interior is truly designed down to the detail... // All the boats in this episode are nice - the Swan in particular.... // BTW Tim I am just wondering are you going to showcase any Pacific Seacraft 40's?

I saw 3 Gozzards last week in Rock Hall Maryland. I didn't get inside, but they are beautiful. I think at least one was a 40, certainly 36 ft. These were all fitted for cruising. We also saw lots of boats starting to head South. Jerry cans lashed to deck are a dead give away!

@@LadyKSailing I just looked at the specs for the 36. It lists the Capsize Screening number as 1.96, pretty high. I did read about how the number is important for racing. How does it work and why isn't it as important for cruising? It has to be under 2 for racing. And do you look at it?

You’ve finally nailed my bucket boat, although it’s not in my budget! IMO the Gozzard eclipses the Bayfield in everything, (especially performance) other than economic cost. I would love to come across that big MacGregor you say is hiding down your way!
