I don't get it. The writers have ALL this ammunition to create the most sensible and soft relationship the show has ever had, but they just won't take advantage of that. Barchie has literally everything that makes a good relationship, foundation, history, care and genuine concern for one another. I couldn't have said it better myself. Barchie has it all: true chemistry, major story potential, years worth of history/buildup/development, a beautiful friendship, angst and a genuine, strong connection built on trust, respect, honesty, moral support and love. They have one of the purest relationships on the show and it's a healthy and mature one that has depth, substance and longevity. If they don't end up together, then not only it wouldn't make sense it would be a HUGE travesty. Instead of the writers writing rich, meaningful and compelling character-driven stories and focusing on the premise of the show and what actually works, they are giving into fanservice and writing contrived angst/drama for the sake of the plot and has nothing to do with the show at it's core.

If the writers have any sense, Barchie will happen. The actors and the (really overzealous) fans can talk how they believe Bughead and Varchie will stand the test of time but they have no true power over which direction things go at the end of the day. Varchie and Bughead (which I absolutely despise) have proven to be both unstable and toxic multiple times. Barchie by contrast has always felt warm and loving with nearly every interaction. It's like Kevin said, they may not be dating, but they are endgame. That is, if the writers are smart.
