1500 MILES + 29 HOURS ON A BOAT, to go and BUY A HOUSE! (or not.)
This week we leave Portugal, drive through Spain, and put our self converted camper van on a 29 hour long ferry to get to Ireland so we can buy a house! Or not in this case.
After spending months in Ireland last year we bought a remote 200 year old cottage and were hoping that after travelling from Spain on a ferry, with a dog and cat, that it would finally be time to collect our keys and start our off grid alternative life in the peaceful countryside.
However, as with all good plans, there's some problems to iron out, or in our case, problems on top of problems, all wrapped up in red tape and paperwork.
But, we are back to van life in Ireland, and I think you will see in this video just how happy we are about that. We don't yet know exactly when we can move into our little old cottage, but we do know its going to be one hell of a journey, a very long journey and this is just the beginning..

OK now you’ve done it! I am absolutely going to have to move to Ireland just because of that dog wash system! I am 79 years old and live in Virginia in the USA and I hate having to give my dog a bath because I have to put him in the tub and lift him and it’s a mess!the Irish have figured it out. That is a great idea. Thanks for showing it to me. If I had lots of money I would invest in developing those all over the United States! Thank you so much for showing that to me.

Had to chuckle on the animal fur. I just say I live in a cloud of fur with my orange boy. I've never had a cat that sheds like him. I regularly groom but it makes no difference. So I brought a battery vacuum, helps a bit. He hates it! Shame , vacuuming him would maybe help. Only seen one cat that loved being vacuumed!

Hi Lou and Emily, we live in the Isle of Man and have to get the boat frequently in all weather's. Antihistamines/anti allergy tablets from the pound shop work to prevent motion sickness. My 90 year old mother in law with vertigo and dizzy spells came over on the boat on a rough crossing and it worked for her while everyone else was throwing up. Cheers, Damion and Cathleen

Not been on a ferry since 2006 (Plymouth Santander return) and I was sea sick both times. I tried tablets but they were no good. If I did take the ferry again I might try the Ginger Nuts ! Personally I would go by Tunnel and drive.

I'm surprised they didn't have a proper dog relief area on the ferry. Every cruise ship I've been on has a nice one for service dogs with either grass or dirt or both. There's probably loads more dogs on the ferries than on cruise ships.
