First - you have to change van for the next big trip, this is becoming beyond the joke. From myself I can recommend Sprinter 313 cdi 2.2 cdi , my father done with this engine from 60K till 135K without any issues , then only he have to change thermostat because the temp with the engine no go above 60 C, but the car still driving when the fault coming up !:)

One thing I love about your vlogs is the realness. You don’t edit out the bad parts of your journey & make viewers see vanlife through rose tinted glasses. You’re a massive inspiration because you face whatever challenge is thrown your way & always have a backup plan. Life is never perfect & it should never be perceived to be. Keep up the amazing work & most importantly - have fun! 😊 Xx

Regarding the night incident and banging on the van - that is one downside of "epic" but isolated park-ups. A campervan in a spot like that will stand out more, and is more likely to attract the attention of unpleasant people. On occasion I will use spots like these, but most of the time I will try to park somewhere next to some other cars, and close to some human activity. People who are up to no good are less likely to behave like that when there could be other witnesses around, or the probability of someone intervening.

Honestly, you two were definitely made for one another. Loving catching up on the older videos. When we are on the road, we have to take the good with the bad. Trust me, I know very cold winters well. I am from Labrador where there are only 2 seasons, 8 months of winter and 4 months of summer. That inner tubing was awesome. Years ago, my sister in law and I went down a huge water slide. I thought I was going to have a heart attack. We were both quite large at the time. We came out of the shoots at the same time. We made a splash so big it soaked the onlookers at poolside. I am glad I did it but never again. LOL.

I'm only partway through the video so far, but the one thing that I worry about for you ladies is the dangers from unscrupulous prats. I'm so thankful you're all safe. Anyway! Wondering why you didn't just get some more velcro for AJ's coat instead of trekking around trying to find another jacket. If the coolant disappears and it is not leaking or ending up in the oil, check if your engine has a breathing valve on the very top point of the cooling pipe. Mine was stuck and the engine sprayed the coolant on top of the engine. It vaporized leaving no trace of a leak. The sudden event in your case might be caused by the air pressure change and altitude. 👍 ps. Get a can of alcoholic windscreen washer fluid and pour some of that in your gray water tank to keep it from freezing. 🤓❄️🇫🇮

In my Diesel I used to slide a garbage bag between the a/c and radiator about half of the radiator, it gives the thermostat a chance to manage the radiator temp. One of the benefits was the fuel filter didn’t have to be changed as often as the wax didn’t come out of suspension, you might find the temp gauge works normally as well.

Your coolant loss could be due to an airlock when the new engine was put in. A couple of hot and cold cycles and it seems to be fine. Your temperature guage problems could be related in which case it could rectify itself in time, or the sensor could be duff.

@koningbolo4700 Жыл бұрын
Engine temperatures (as advertised on a French gauge) can be mainly two things: 1. the gauge is faulty or the wiring connected to it is dodgy or the temperature sensor is faulty (My money would be on the last one) OR 2. the thermostat is stuck in open or halfway position causing the engine to not be able to maintain a steady temperature. Best way to check the engine temperature is to have a hand held IR thermometer which you can point at the engine block where the temperature sensor is at (or if better accessible) the outgoing hose to the heater core. A less reliable way to see if the engine is getting up to temp is to feel het heat coming from the heater core. If that amount of heat fluctuates then the engine coolant temperature is obviously also fluctuating and most likely the thermostat controlling the water flow to the main radiator in front has issues and needs to be changed out...

Hey Gals. If your engine water temperature gauge is going up and down you may have an air blockage in your coolant system. You may need to bleed the air out. Thank you for taking us along for the ride.

I hope your Fanny is feeling better 🤪 but if not, I found a tip that's a possibility: "A thermostat stuck in the open position will allow a constant flow of coolant causing a lower operating temperature. This increases emission, makes the engine wear faster, and leaves the temperature gauge reading cool at all time" 🤞

Its quite possible that coolant problem could be the early on set of the head gasket going. Had the same things happening on my van a few years back. I just plodded on doing what your doing, constant checking etc. Big mistake. In the end it was head gasket and catastrophic breakdown. Tried head gasktet sealers that you add to coolant but it didn't work, was too far gone. If I had done it much earlier it would have worked and dealt with the problem in the longterm. Some of these sealers can be added to the coolant and just live in the system as a precaution and preventative measure. They are very cheap to buy and you have everything to lose by not acting now as a precaution. Might save a massive garage bill too. Hope this helps.

Great video. Might be wise to get the van seen. I know it's sort of working, but this might just be the early stages of a fault that will need a garage, and you really don't want to be up a mountain if you break down. Otherwise, what a great place to end up. You two are spreading a bit of happiness, so keep it up and thank you XX

I love the mix of stunning scenery and the reality of day to day life in the van. Watching AJ in the snow was so cute seeing him enjoy it so much and embrace his inner puppy. Switzerland looks awesome and I am looking forward to following the rest of the trip

Just a thought Louise, have you tried bleeding the cooling system, in case there it's got an air lock? There should be a bleed screw on one of the heater pipes. I know the van in the video I have linked is a newer one than yours, but ours which is 12 months older than Fanny has the same bleed screw.
