On the Feast of St. John the Evangelist, December 27, 2008, St. John's Episcopal Church of Detroit celebrated the 150th Anniversary of her founding on St. John's Day in 1858. The parish choir under the direction of Dr. Huw Lewis, FRCO presented the service of Christmas Lessons and Carols. This service is the kick-off to 11 months of celebration of the anniversary of the parish's founding on December 27th, 1858 to the opening of its chapel on November 19th, 1859.
Part 5 begins with the reading of the fifth lesson (Luke 1:39-46) by Mr. Allan Bass, followed by the setting of the Magnificat Evening Service in E by Herbert Murrill and the sixth lesson (Luke 2:1-20) read by St. John's assisting priest Fr. Michael Bedford, SSC
