150W of COB LEDs with 500W DC Step-Down Module

Welcome back to Keon's Lab! This week's video is an exciting one!
Today we will be producing 15,000 Lumens of LED POWER by combining a 100W COB with a 50W COB LED onto a single heatsink!!!
We'll also take a look at a cool 500W DC-DC step-down module before using it to power the 50W COB and 20W fan, so that the new 30V, 100W COB can be powered at the same time by the power supply.

LEDs, like all diodes, are current driven devices. The light output is directly proportional to the input current provided. It is not enough to provide a constant voltage to the LED. Some method of current limiting should be used when driving LEDs. As an LED heats up the required forward voltage decreases causing the current to increase, which causes more heating, so if not current limiting you can quickly experience thermal runaway.

So THAT’S why the current kept slowly creeping up! I’m new to CoBs so thanks for letting me know! I will have to make an update to point this out so that I’m not giving out incomplete information.

​@@KeonsLab I'm glad you found the information helpful. When I started to use some high output LEDs I burned up quite a few because I was only limiting voltage.
