Really scared of getting pregnant too because of the nausea 😅😅Wish it weren’t so but with three kids, I’d be out for months like Katie says! Know it’s worth it though!

I was gonna mention chiropractor too. It’s a huge deal in my circles (I’m Slavic). Apparently misaligned joints are the culprit in many cases! Also, I’m the same way (unsure) with head coverings. My church does practice/embrace it, but some individual families choose not to… I heard a sermon with an interesting point: Based on 1 Cor. 11:7, a man represents the glory of God, which is WHY he should’nt cover/hide it (and therefore also his head). A woman represents the glory of man, so of course we should suppress it. Symbolically, we’re glorifying God and not man.

I started head covering a few months ago, and it was the hardest thing to start doing! I am the only person in my family, and my church only has one other person who does. It’s hard to go against the grain in such a visible way, but my husband and I both felt convicted to obey 1 Corinthians 11, even if we don’t understand it entirely. It’s only been in the last 70ish years that Christians became ok with women not having coverings, compared with the first nearly 2 millennia of church history. Biblically, the symbol is rooted in the creation order of course, and it also has spiritual ramifications (“because of the angels”). Another thing I found interesting is comparing the different words in the original language that are translated “covering” in English (v. 15 compared with the rest of the passage). Just something to look into as you study!

I recently watched another video on this and the woman suggested "angels" could refer to fallen angels. Also, wearing a head covering in public really brings out the wickedness in people too. The enemy hates it

Really interesting hearing your thoughts on head covering. It’s something I’m wrestling with too. What struck me as you read it was that if it’s a shame for a man to cover his head when he prays and our hair is our covering what does the man do with his hair when he prays?!! Just a thought!

Just to add, I grew up and still cover my head in church but my battle is with covering all the time. Bibles often say rules for worship above that passage but that’s not the only time we pray. I pray often throughout the day and my head isn’t covered! Like you I’m still undecided!!

Agreed, I don’t think a woman’s hair is meant to be the covering. Otherwise, 1. Cor 11:6 doesn’t make sense: that if a woman doesn’t cover her head, she might as well shave it. Then obviously not covering her head isn’t equivalent to having it shaved. 🤷🏼‍♀️

We have discussed the head covering thing this year as well. I grew up with family that did in the brethern church. My parents never believed it to be something they believed, and the church’s we went to never did growing up. I never had any idea why, until the past year why people did it. After hearing all the information and discussing it with my husband we felt convicted by it. For me I felt as though I would rather do it, then to not do it and God said to do it. Very difficult decision to make. I only do it though when praying or at church.

@@NowThatWereAFamilyPodcastI'm a little triggered by this explanation because I read it in a very conservative publication that was nauseatingly strong on things that I don't believe matter so much, but I guess the explanation makes sense. If the woman's hair is her covering, should men be shaved? 🤦‍♀️ I almost cringe to share that explanation, but it's out there. Also, the scripture says "because of the angels" - Elisha, you said what is the practical reason - I believe there's protection from angels that we don't realize or understand. There's stories that testify of women being protected from assault that seem consistent with this belief. For this reason the woman ought to have a symbol of authority on her head, because of the angels. -1 Corinthians 11:10 NKJV It is interesting to check different versions on this verse.

I enjoyed this episode. You're response to the head covering was not at all what I was expecting! ❤️ I grew up in a home to parents who were not raised in a Christian home and were born again when I was 6. We started out in a Baptist church, then non-denominational church, then a church with Anabaptist background when I was in my teens. I am now married and we attend a Mennonite church. To me, coming from a background that didn't do that and most of my relatives aren't even Christians, the choice to wear a head covering holds a lot more depth to me.

I’m on my second pregnancy and have felt so overwhelmed because there are days when I feel like I can’t be the mother my little girl needs me to be (morning sickness & HG). It kills me, but I know God will not bring us to a point where his strength will not get us through. My husband and I have talked about more kids and I can definitely relate to your chat about family planning. I’ve also contemplated head coverings recently and I really feel like I’m on the same page with you guys. Thanks so much for sharing!

You guys always amaze me with your spiritual maturity! I grew up mennonite and if you didn't fall in line with everything the church leaders believed you were considered not a christian. Knowing that God can use anyone, even in their errors has been very freeing to learn. Our pastor talked about headcoverings a few weeks ago and he believes Paul was simply stating what their custom was, not instructing them. I hadn't heard that perspective before

I cover my head when I pray; first in my family/social circle to do so. I do it not for my husband but an act of loving obedience to the Lord and to enhance my relationship with Him, and “have authority over her own head, because of the angels.” No idea what it means to the angels but it must be something! 😅 I also don’t want to “dishonor” my head. My hair is glory to me as a woman, I am glory to my husband, and my husband is glory to God. As glory to man, I cover, and the man as glory to God, should be uncovered. Practically, I cover during prayer/worship at church and when we pray as a family. My baby rips hats off, and I find traditional head coverings are a spectacle and make me feel uncomfortable and immodest, so I use simple headbands.

“Because of the angels” could refer to the fallen angels who rejected God’s headship design and therefore hate the symbol that we use when we recognize God’s order. It could also refer to the angels in heaven. The cherubim have 3 pairs of wings, and when in God’s presence, they use one to cover their face and one to cover their feet and fly with the other pair. So we also cover ourselves in God’s presence.

I love your openness to the Lord’s will in your life and for your family! 💕 You are truly blessed and a great witness for others! Many traditional Catholic also women headcover at Church. You can wear a hat or anything you want but most women wear veils. I had the same thought about why does it matter because headcovering doesn’t really mean much to me personally or culturally. I was also raised with the understanding that your hair is a covering but again when you read it, it doesn’t make sense. Where I have peace and don’t lack confusion about it is veiling in the real presence of Jesus in the blessed sacrament (so at church!) The history of veiling in the Catholic Church is very interesting! It was required/common for all women until a New York newspaper wrote an article that said it was no longer required. That wasn’t the case, it just wasn’t specifically addressed with changes that were made in the second Vatican council. So women (especially womens lib types) stopped wearing them and phased it out. I have found veiling to help with humility. It also helps me better focus on Christ and makes my time at church set-apart from my regular days. To me, it also affirms my belief in two genders as men remove their hats inside a church and women keep theirs on. Such an interesting topic! I appreciated hearing your thoughts on it!!

Like the conversation. I came to the conviction to practice headcovering about a year ago. I was leaning in that direction after really focusing on that chapter, I couldn’t get past the fact that it said if she will not cover she might as well be shorn. What would she be cutting off if the cover was the hair? If she is shorn she might as well be shorn didn’t make sense to me. Then a hyper feminist put me firmly is the headcovering camp when I heard her say “remember until the 50’s they made you wear hats”. I realized then that it was regularly practiced in all Christian societies until the sexual revolution. Also side note, not feeling dishonored does not mean you are not dishonored. People living in sexual sin do not feel that they are dishonoring the other person, but they are. Love your hearts to want to honor God wherever it leads! It is a beautiful thing to see!😊

Hey guys, you gotta read Supernatural Childbirth by Jackie Mize. It goes over pregnancy as well, and has so many great confessions and prayers to say over yourself and baby as you believe for a pregnancy free of pain and sickness and every other condition, and a pain free childbirth. Life and death are in the power of the tongue. So really was beneficial to me to watch what I said over myself, even what I shared with others who may not have the same faith in what I was believing for. Loved reading the book When Your Child Is 6-12! Thanks for the recommendation!!❤️

Let me just say my husband and I love the conversation starters you guys create for us. We love and appreciate you guys! Im neither for or against head coverings, however, I would suggest researching the Corinth church because I discovered that there was a cultural difference between the women of short hair and long as well as the men of short hair and long that was unique to the Corinthians. It was a distinction between male prostitutes of the pagan temples and women prostitutes. Apart of being able to rightly divide the word of God is understanding the audience as well as the context of the letter. Only a suggestion as you dig in to see if it’s a conviction for you or as the Holy Spirit leads you all. Blessings!

I was always taught that growing up, that it was simply cultural to the church in Corinth, but when I dug deeper into the passage myself it mentions hair and a covering and basically states that if a woman refuses to cover she might as well be shorn which would associate her with a pagan prostitute. That along with the fact that the argument that it was from created order and because of the angels, to me it actually made the argument for a physical covering stronger rather then weaker. Food for thought.

I'm Quaker. While most Quakers have adopted modern clothing styles, some plain dress. I'm drawn to it as it is a PERSONAL decision. It makes sense to me, it's purely a rejection of narcissism and embracing of simplicity. I'm not doing it to show how much holier than thou I am than others, that is a version of narcissism, which defeats the purpose of plain dress. But I will NEVER head cover. First I respect the choice of others who do so, that is between them and God. It's not up to me. But as for me, NO. To me, it feels like a form of spiritual abuse, like I'm not good enough because I was born a woman, "better put that head covering on so you can be good enough". It feels incredibly misogynistic.

I do wish you would be more willing to engage controversial subjects. We live in such a divisive world, and the lines are becoming more important to draw. Don’t be afraid to lose patrons because you aren’t on the “correct” side of the issue. That is not the bottom line for Christian ministry. Go for it, and be bold!
