Took a similar lock to bits, it fell on the floor, into bits and we couldn't get it back together. This enabled us to do so. Thank you very much indeed.

Really cool video! Here in the USA I don't think these types of locks are used anymore, or if they are in very limited situations. So its really nice to see something different.

Jess Hull yeah, they are still really common over here. Less common than they used to be, but still popular :-)

Superb explanation Lock Noob, very interesting to see the internals. Amazing how just removing the front plate really adversely affected the overall function of the mechanism. Just goes to show that even a relatively simple and low security three lever lock is still assembled to critical overall dimension specifications to ensure it works reliably in practice. Thanks again.....

Greetings LOCK NOOB. I've recently purchased a collection of vintage locks. Many of them are lever locks that I do not have the tools or experience to pick. I'd like to send some your way. I'm not looking to trade. I just think someone should have a chance to pick them. it seems a shame that they are just sitting on a shelf. Happy picking.

Evening locknoob. Make the upstand on the tensioner longer so it sits in the bottom of the keyway for a fulcrum/pivet point.
@LockNoob
@LockNoob 7 жыл бұрын
Rat Lock you are absolutely right and I actually tried this first. For some reason it didn't work out for me so I shortened the tension wire (which, if I were honest wasn't much better...). What do you think about filing a notch into a wire tip? Not done it but it was suggested and makes sense
@ratlock1261
@ratlock1261 7 жыл бұрын
No dont file notch. Either use your thumb of your left hand pressed against the lock to provide a pivot point. Or make upstand on tension long enough to sit in bottom of keyway and tension that way.

You were dropping your hand slightly when you were tensioning, making the tension upstand lean in and slip off the bolt. keep tension at 90 degree to the lock. Looking at the clip again and freezing it. The upstand on the tension is slightly out from square. I think that is also causing problems. Check its 90 degree from the wire.

The Basta series of these locks has a similar keyway. i would imagine this lock has a low number of key variations. Some two levers have something like 25 keys give or take. i think it is less

This is impossible! Even using my lockpick set there is nothing to apply tension to. Guess I'll have to break out the sledgehammer to get into my shed now.

Is it possible to remove the levers so that the lock could be operated by any/generic key? Might seem odd question but I've been unable to find a good match for mortice lock in 1930s internal door so that my son can lock his door or adapt a lock for bathroom door as don't have original key.
@LockNoob
@LockNoob 5 жыл бұрын
The short answer is yes, but you would need suitable spacers... a lot could go wrong so best to consult a locksmith :-)

how easy is it to pick from the other side? i am new to this type of lock and can not find anybody who explains picking from the other side they all pick the one side and can the tools you can bye tension the outside and pick behind if you know what i mean
@LockNoob
@LockNoob 7 жыл бұрын
robert dundas good question. These none-curtain locks should be easy enough to pick from the other side with wires, the reason why people pick this side round is because looking from the outside of a door in, they are mounted this way round. Curtain lever locks picks make picking the other side of the lock simple enough in theory too
