Thanks for the graphic presentation of the workings inside a lock cylinder. You have validated what I have been simply surmising. Other pickers typically give a running dialogue as to what they are feeling inside the core. Now you have illustrated this in a clear and understandable way.

When i was kid, i took my parents safe key and made a outline of it in paper then i use that outline to make a key out of video game cd. My small ass mind thought that it would be nice idea to use plastic material as a key. Then i tried to open the safe, only outer handle rotated, the key didnot rotate, ended up breaking the plastic key with half of it inside the hole. I did it so that i can buy video game cd without asking money. I gave up everything and i was preparing myself mentally to get hard ass slap from parents. Luckly found some twisers and pulled half piece out

Holy mackerel it worked! I was trying to open an empty office cabinet that I was given at work without keys. It was a little different because the whole lock mechanism seemed to come out but then I could easily turn the latch with a small screw driver. I used the 2 paper clip method and I can see how the correct tools would be a lot easier, but then the lock I was working on was probably a very easy lock. This was fun! I can see how it becomes a hobby easily. Thanks!

I've never picked a lock in my life, but I do watch LockPickingLawyer. And That, dear friends, is why insurers like a nice 5lever plus mortice lock, as opposed to a cylinder lock. Both are pickable but a quality lever lock has more of an issue in my opinion, as the levers in a quality lock are gated so as to not turn if over reached, and wont bind so much as pins do. Been a very long time since I made a key for a lock with no key.... but that was how I learnt about those levers
