Being so light, it'd be good at slashing, dance in, dance out. It's not a cleaver. Go for near targets, stop hits, thrusts. The shape of the point is better in the thrust, but will still make a decent cut.
@JoeSteel1 Жыл бұрын
The heavy targets are more to show the resilience of the spring steel blade. Within reason, this sword can go from Tatami to trick cutting use..

I have bought it and it has arrived yesterday, I have to say that I was impressed, most of the issues that you mentioned have been fixed, the wrapping is very tight and the edge was very very sharp, it cutted trough paper really easily I love it! Great review tho! I enjoyed it a lot

Thanks for sharing Matt, this is so helpful and good to hear, especially that creators like myself are being heard by makers, and making positive improvements as well as being able to help gentleman like yourself make a decision on their first or next sword....Very much appreciated and so glad your Surido arrived well to you...kudos to Romance of Men for producing and improving great swords

They'd given out quite a few katanas over the years to reviewers and genuinely listened to feedback even from harsh ones, steadily upping their game. Genuinely really solid offerings now for the price. Been awesome seeing a bunch of companies from India, China, Taiwan, etc... truly rise above the mall ninja stereotypes over the last decade, shows the industry is really maturing.

I could get into this for paragraphs, but simply there will always be a split market for quality, entry level & wall hangers, but yes the mid range are bringing more quality to the table and offering very appealing options..thanks for watching friend
@Rob_Fordd11 ай бұрын
Oh for sure, I'm just thinking back to the 00's when pretty much the only options that you could be sure wouldn't fly apart on impact were custom commissions, overbuilt cold steels, and some of the windlass options lol@@JoeSteel1

Great video Joe! - looks like they've upped their game. (also that gorilla glue fix works wonders🙌 ) I had a custom order from HanBon a while ago that came with loose seppa's / habaki and tsuba wiggle, (all fittings loose & rattling around!) so I got the gorilla glue and dabbed in cut piece of office paper & got it between all sides of the fittings even the fuchi etc & even down into the habaki gap to lock everything down, it worked like a charm and nothing moves under hard pressure and cut with it etc, sword feels solid as hell now since the glue expands it puts all that tension into it - if ever came loose years down the track i'd just get some more of that glue and do the process again. 😂👍

That is one amazing looking sword. I did a review of a Katana from Master Cutlery I don't know if you saw that or not. It's under my swords/Machetes playlist if you want to check it out. I was thinking of doing a full review outside with it one day. But once again great job with the testing of the blade and can't wait for more sword reviews. But really, I would like to see you do a review of a rapier or a cutlass maybe.

Great review buddy , was the best and safest method without messing a katana up to sharpen it? Somebody whom had not done it before. 8,000 whet stone or a leather strop?
@JoeSteel1 Жыл бұрын
Thanks 👍....stones can do more harm then good if you don't use them correctly, I jacked up a early blade with whetstones....may have been the stones, but I think it was me....the worksharp is my go to for all...I've become pretty proficient at it and found ways to keep the blade fairly clean. the best procedure is japanese stones but you gotta be good with them
@paulalex1597 Жыл бұрын
I would recommend practice on a blade you don't care to much about a 8000 stone will remove more metal than 8000 grit paper.good luck 🤞

Idk if I missed it, but I don't think I heard you mention distal taper. Does it have any?
@JoeSteel1 Жыл бұрын
The natural geometric of unokubi Zukuri, is made with a steep Distal taper towards the tip, for better slicing, balance and control.
@jon2067 Жыл бұрын
@@JoeSteel1 ah, thanks. The site says 7mm thickness. I'm assuming that's at the base. Do you happen to know how much is it at the tip?
@JoeSteel1 Жыл бұрын
The tapered spine at about 3/4 down from tip is 2.9mm and the swell at the reinforced tip is back to 4mm which is typical for a traditional unokubi geometric,
