WHAT IS HIGH GRADE STONE?
Anything you can run a 1/2" or more flake with a pressure flaker.
HEAT TREATING:
Heat treat a few FLAKES of everything you got except HIGH GRADE Raw Stone, Obsidian, Dacite, Basalt, Hornstone, Sonora, Fort Payne, or Rhyolite. Start with flakes and spalls less than 1" thick for 200°F for 24 hours to dry it out. Then raise the temp to 275°F and hold for 4 hours. Let cool down for 12 hours. Chip and compare. If no difference, put back I at 200°F for 1/2 hour, then raise to 275 for 1/2 hour, then raise to 325 for 4 hours.
Let cool down for 12 hours. Chip and compare. If no difference, put back in at 200°F for 1/2 hour, then raise to 275 for 1/2 hour, then raise to 325 for 1/2 hour, the raise to 375 for 4 hours.
Repeat with temp going up 50°F until you reach 600°F or nice chippable stone. Whichever comes first. If no good result, or things blow up, let us know.

How to thin a chubby arrowhead tip: Step 1- Be "Jack Crafty". Step 2 - Flute, and/or bevel, and/or zigzag the tip as needed. If you can complete step 1, then step 2 is a breeze. Otherwise, it might not go so well. 😜 You make it look so easy. (It's not easy.)

Your video was recommended. Wow, I haven't knapped in years. I started using glass years ago because it was easy to work with and is readily available. I love the indirect percussion, never heard of it before. Keep on rocking.👍👍✌️

I’m a beginner and really liked this vid. The camera position and detail really showed the platforms and your angles of percussion and pressure flaking well, imho. The material is a nice color and easy to see what’s going on.

The stone I use is grime’s graves flint, it nearly always ends up as a thick point unless I start with an already thin flake, but this wastes a lot of rock to produce one. I will either have to build something to heat treat it or I could slab it first with a diamond disc (bit of a cheat).

Oh that was helpful! Thank you. I’m looking through your videos to see if you offer any advice of pressure flaking a sharp edge. Mine are always jagged and ugly but it’s fun to learn. You have a lot of helpful and entertaining videos. These are a gift on hot lazy days good sir

OK, I’m still a firm believer that you’re some kind of wizard or something. I’m having that same issue as that. But I will keep working and trying to improve myself. Thank you for your help. Tom
