Thanks for posting 1565 for your first look at the series. I have finished 3 games so far, all as the Turks, all are losses. But my last game was very exciting. With St. Angelo and St. Elmo captured, it all came down to eliminating a single unit in St. Michaels. There was one card in the Christian response deck, so everything depended on what they could play to counter the Grand Harbor assault order I put down. Their card was Dragut killed, so my order was cancelled and that was the end! What I am learning so far is to really focus on getting the assaults on St. Angelo going asap. This means getting the Grand Harbor assault and Siege Tower modifiers in play, since good rolls here can clear both St. Angelos and St. Michaels fairly quickly. They are also why the Turks can't be shy about employing the Aggressive Assault cards. Don't worry about negative results - their primary function is to refresh your access to the assault cards you need to use (especially while you can use the -2 modifiers). An occasional shot at St. Elmo's is okay, but to me there isn't enough time to get distracted by Mdina or even the St. Angelos bombardments (I don't feel that the Turks are going to win a morale contest very often). My bottom line is that I enjoyed this too. I am going to pause 1565 now and give Syracuse a try - those horrid Athenians deserve another good crushing!

Thanks for this! I have been struggling with the Turks a lot. This is all good advice. Gonna set it up again today!

Thanks for the run through. Sitting in the UK waiting for my copy to arrive - looking forward to it even more now that I watched this. Run throughs of the other games in the series would be appreciated. Like all good solo games it should be virtually impossible to win. Makes you come back for more.

Looks interesting. Hex and counter game The Wargamer magazine had a super one of the same name. It came out around 1990something.

There’s a new one supposedly coming out at some point from Legion called Waning Crescent, Shattered Cross that looks very good. It’s being designed by the same guy who did Toulon 1793

@@Justegarde Always liked that era. It's a bridge between medeval and Pike and Shot. Cannons, yes. Matchlocks, check. Armored knights at close quarters, priceless.

It's the story of La Vallette, the Grandmaster, wounded, put in a chair to defend a breach in the wall. Which he did successfully for hours, 6-8 by some accounts, and at 70something years old. Hollywood couldn't dream up something like that. What a fighting man!

Would definitely be interested in see if the Christian side is that much easier (being historically the outcome) or if its still as challenging.
