Guys - thanks for another great episode. I’ve seen other “boat reviewers” on KZbin, but you guys set the standard for historical perspective, detailed information about each boat and sailing terms in general, and entertainment value. You get better with every boat you review. I look forward to the release of each episode. You really make my Thursdays something to look forward to. When are we going to see Randay’s boat? I loved that Scheel 45. Wish I had bought it!
@62-622 жыл бұрын
Me too Sir. It was one of my picks for the, “Top 10” list of the year. But when the Captain announced that Randi had bought, I was even more happy!. Today’s boat is like Randi’s boat, I can see me sailing her and having fun! With the price of fuel these days better I better study up more on sailing vs motor boating. Stay Safe my friend!

Nice find Gentlemen!!! What's not to love with a Nauticat. My only issue is the side entrances to the pilot house/interior, in a rough seaway it can be a challenge. You really should have mentioned her fantastic seaworthiness and speed under sail. With a S.A./Disp. of 19.56 for a ketch rig, that is very good, she is a moderate bluewater boat with a very good capsize ratio. There is a reason these boats sell for so much considering the age, they are a very capable and comfortable cruiser.

Seems like a nice boat if it hadn't been damaged. I'm no expert but if the hull was beaten enough that the fridge won't open, that's more than a flesh wound to me. 😎

I watched the whole thing with my gf and as soon as the fridge would not open I told her the same thing. I would have a hard time paying 30k for it
@svechappe60752 жыл бұрын
I'm thinking it was a function of the door continually being wildy swung open and shut by the boat bouncing off the dock at a heel, but certainly an internal structural inspection of the boat is warranted.
@jasonmcintosh26322 жыл бұрын
The fridge isn't where the hull was hit, so it's unlikely that the hull is distorted there. Chances are the heavy sliding drawers just couldn't take the shock of the impact that cracked the hull. Fiberglass can take a crazy amount of beating. An unbelievably insane amount of beating. It will puncture, but the damage is usually just local. It'll be a pain to fix this boat as you'll need to reglass on the outside and on the inside to really take care of those cracks. But once it's done, it'll be a great boat again!

I'm not sure the owner's math on the sale price is fair to a prospective buyer. The fair price would be the value of the boat less the total cost of repairs. The deductible doesn't enter into that equation at all because a new buyer doesn't care how high your deductible is - they only care how much they'll have to pay for the repairs. I used to be a claims adjuster, so I've heard all the tricks to avoid paying a deductible haha!

Like the Cap'n, motor sailors were never my thang. However, your presentation of this boat was an eye opener. It seemed to have the internal space of a much longer boat and seeing her flying along under canvas was the cherry on the cake. She'd make a perfect liveaboard. The owner obviously took very good care of her. She's one of the least worn looking boats of that vintage that I've ever seen. Bar the repairs, she's ready to go and she strikes me as a complete steal, considering what you're getting for your money. This comments section is going to light up like the Vegas strip. When the motor sailor fanboys get an eyeful ;)
@62-622 жыл бұрын
“Motor Sailor Fanboys” now that’s a cute! I can tell you have watched the channel before, you have gained some of Randi’s and the Captain’s sense of humor!! I agree that if you take away the hull damages (including the inside Refrigerator) this is an awesome boat.

Great video, Chaptain and Randay. As always, very entertaining and informative. How comes the owner/seller are just willing to sclice off what the insurer have paid instead of the estimate for the repairs. Matter of discalculia or so? The buyer will probably end up spending in excess of 40 grand plus another 5 grand or so for the underwater ship. I'd certainly be spending fairly below 200k on such a bout, provided it was ready to leave the mooring and was clean and tidy all over.

Great boat. How to have a polite candid side-bar about the price though. Like every boat it's a fixer upper, and this one has a few "more-severe" fix-ups needed than some others. I think the sailing video you have might have been a later model boat - which has a lower "castle" than this one. How do you handle the discussion of fibreglass lifespans? The MTBF (Meantime before Failure) is 30-years. These boats are 10-years beyond that and should therefore expect to experience shrinking and other integrity issues that enter into a material science discussion.

I tend to think of motorsailers as cruising boats with an underpowered auxiliary sailing rig (as opposed to traditional cruising sailboats that may have an auxiliary engine). Was more than a little surprised to look up the Nauticat 44's specs just now and see that her SA/Disp. is only a little lower than my own boat, and quite a bit higher than the Sea Sprite 34 you featured a few weeks back. Maybe I won't try to race the next one I come across. 😋

I'm not sure what it is about this vessel but I'm really enamored with it. You've shown some truly beautiful motor sailors in the past by builders like Cheoy Lee that were truly stunning both inside and out. There's just something about this one that speaks to me even with her scars, obvious need of a very deep cleaning, parts that need repair and just overall condition. I'm not sure why maybe it's her utilitarian look and build. She just looks both capable and comfortable kind of like my favorite comfy chair, yes I'm a grandpa. All I can say is come on AMC before this vessel is sold as I'd definitely put in an offer after a survey to tell me just how bad the damage is and what it would take to make her whole again. Thank you Ran-Day and Captain for bringing another awesome vessel for our viewing pleasure and day/night dream fuel. Fair winds, following seas, safe travels and God Bless. Oh and Randay, don't think I've forgotten about your new to you vessel and I'm very much looking forward to some footage of her. No rush of course, just letting you know I for one am very excited to see what you've been up to. Looking forward to seeing you're walk through of the vessel and her systems. Work done or in the planning stages and just getting out enjoying her and showing her off to us. Whether alone on some first test sails or with your family and the Captain on longer vacation type cruising/weekending runs...
@Nerd39272 жыл бұрын
Lovely boat! But the damage..... To really inspect it, you must take out all the interior. Most structural members will be torn or wrapped. It is one heck of a job. And when all is done the insurance company must be happy. There are better options on the market. The only option I see is to live on it in a marina, Leave the damage as is and never sail or motor. Very sad end for a wonderful ship.
