This is an amazing yacht! Like me we are both east coast transplants to the SFO bay area. She sailed for a good period of time bay racing and lightly used but well taken care of. I found her on YW just after I started my boat search...and just after the owner shipped her to the east coast to be sold. (according to the broker I talked to the owner thought Aldens are better known on east coast and would sell faster there, ugh)...I would have bought her if she had stayed on the west coast but the cost of shipping her back to the west coast etc, forced me to move on. Absolutely splendid craftsmanship, maintenance/care on this Alden. And at this very attractive price she will move quickly. I really like this boat and I'm very happy to see that Captain Q and Randy share the feeling. You guys are one of the best sailing channels on YT, keep it going! Cheers.

Thanks for showing such a bespoke yacht. Highlight of my day. I have seen Alden boats in the past but never had the tour. This yacht was pristine a real credit to the owner. Great Review. The dorade box with the two fittings near the dodger are usually water valves so you can hook up to city water. I own Hull #1 and it is nearly identical to this boat. My aft cabin is set up a bit different, but other than that, they are twins. I am currently doing a complete restoration on mine and currently re-coring the decks. I hope mine looks as good as Kismet in the near future.

Amazing that something from the Alden yard would ever need the decks re-cored...
@timohan1002 жыл бұрын
@@garystone7062 it doesn't matter who builds a boat, after 45 years the cores will be soft. Original teak decks that were screwed down, sail tracks and other miscellaneous fittings all eventually leak. I replaced the original balsa core, which was like wet cardboard when I took it out, with Coosa board. At least the core will never absorb water again.
@garystone70622 жыл бұрын
@@timohan100 My 1977 Pearson doesn't have any soft core issues. I've had her since 1995. Good design puts perforations in the deck in areas where solid glass protects any core. I'm sorry you don't have that luxury. Your coosa repairs if done correctly will mitigate water intrusion issues.

for a couple, or a couple with just one or two young kids, this would be perfect. I love the two companionways. the kitchen seems small, but, i think that was more camera angle, as you seemed pretty chuffed with the amount of storage and surface area to work with. i love the space on deck...space to move around without eating stays at every turn. what else do I like? the clever anchor storage, the teak, the ports. Not crazy about the wheel. Prefer tillers, but, I'm weird in many ways. If they were giving this away, I'd definitely get in line. but, and this is weird, there's the inscrutable factor of "appeal." I don't love this boat. some of the boats you've reviewed, I whimper and cry myself to sleep, dreaming of them. (Others, I look at the price tag and cry for other reasons!!) Although I don’t think you mentioned a Hinckley in this video, you do many times. You compare features and designs to Hinkley. Tell me your reasons for this. I don’t own a boat nor do I sail, but you two have inspired me and now I am looking.
@YachtHunters3 жыл бұрын
Hi John, Hinckley has a well-earned reputation as one of the premier designers and manufacturers of boats since its inception in 1928. They are akin to what Mercedes-Benz is of car makers - uncompromising on design, durability, safety, sailability(which may not actually be a word), and also innovation. They were among the first leaders to move to fiberglass construction in the 1950s... proving that they were always prepared to evolve the designs if it meant building a better boat. Prices on used Hinckleys are often far above other boats of similar size and age, reflecting how well-appreciated they are by buyers. We use it as a benchmark for other manufacturers and designers since they are so darn good.... you can see the Hinckley design influence on other similar boats of the day - this Alden 44, the Ted Hood 46 we reviewed in episode #29.... so you'll hear us mention them a lot as they essentially set the standard back in the day. Hope this helps!
