In the morning, after your nap, before going to bed at night, or just before doing yoga are great times to practice breathing meditation. Find a quiet place where you can be at peace, keep your back straight, and not have your shoulders in the shrugged position (this can be done standing, sitting, or lying down). Turn off your phone, prepare your mood, put on this music, and start a 15-minute breathing meditation session.
This video contains select pieces of therapeutic music from Dr. Huang Luyi, a consultant in the field of flower-essence mood therapy. Listen to gentle blends of the flute, piano, huqin, and pipa that will softly penetrate into your body to stabilize and calm your emotions. Add to this your breathing techniques and a comfortable environment and posture, and you are sure to fall into a state conducive to meditation. In this way, you may start your practice anytime, anywhere; it’s perfect for beginners or those who are easily distracted.
About breathing meditation practice:
Breathing (pranayama) and meditation (dhyana) are in fact inseparable. The techniques of breathing from the stomach or other deep-breathing methods (such as alternating nostrils by closing one with your finger) in yoga can prevent and provide relief for respiratory tract discomfort, and they can also slow down a racing mind, release accumulated pressure, offer healing to a depression-laden heart, and provide comfort for those dealing with slated illnesses resulting from major psychological injury, allowing the practitioner to be better able to focus on the present.
This video series for breathing meditation contains two parts: one that is 15 minutes and another that is 60 minutes. Feel free to use them as your schedule allows. Just take your practice step by step - there is no need to overdo it in trying to achieve any pre-established goals.
