The children cut out letters to stick in their own prayerbooks? That made me feel slightly ill.

Oh, how I love opening new acquisitions. Nothing better than, "WHOA...!" What a great story this has. Thanks for bringing us along for the ride.

Bonjour.

So interesting!!

Very cool, but wouldn't you wear gloves when handling a book over 500 years old? Handling of the pages and inserted notes seemed a little rough.

What's a book of "hours"?
@2horse1672 жыл бұрын
just found this vid a year later, but since nobody replied, the Hours are a set of prayers primarily comprised of the psalms from the Bible. The prayers are said at set hours throughout the day so that is where they get their name. A book of hours would be a collection of these prayers so you know which ones to pray at what time of day, and on what day.

Why so excited? You don't actually get to OWN the book. The institution gets to keep it when you go home!!!!what a bum deal!!! Opening packages to stuff you don't own!!!
@joshuapray3 жыл бұрын
Ownership is not the marker of joy or discovery. Archaeologists don't own the items they discover, either. The people who do this kind of work want to share it, not own it.
@wokeeye64413 жыл бұрын
@@joshuapray The institution who owns it restricts how you can use it. You cannot publish any findings if the institution refuses it. This is especially true if you are a non scholar. If you own it you can investigate it more fully and there is no problem with publication of it.

@@joshuapray I have a medieval royal document and a feudal census roll. Both I think important to medival history and I can translate and publish it on the internet if I see fit. No need to visit a library. Although i am mortal and wont enjoy its ownership indefinitely there is a feeling of freedom.
@wokeeye64413 жыл бұрын
@@SchoenbergInstitute Yes you can make an electronic copy of it but not every institution does that.
