16 BEST VR Games of All Time You Need to Play [2024 Edition]

Despite initial skepticism and plenty of naysayers, the VR platform has proven not to be a passing fad but instead continues to thrive at a rapid pace.
Over the last few years, we have had the opportunity to experience some great VR games that make good use of the platform’s immersive capabilities that seat us in the wondrous worlds. These games include but are not limited to Horizon Call of the Mountain and Half-Life: Alyx among others.
With this feature, we will be taking a look back at the history of VR games and count down 16 of the best VR games of all time - ranging from excellent VR modes in popular AAA games to dedicated VR adventures and much more.

I don't want to sound overly harsh but the whole time I kept feeling like this list was made by someone who played a short few of VR games a few years ago then stopped. I'm not saying "waaah! my favorite game isn't on this list!" but having The London Heist (a short demo experience) instead of Blood and Truth (the full game based on that short demo), Resident Evil 7 instead of Village, RE4 or RE4 Remake (which feature true VR controls instead of using the Dualshock) is quite telling. It keeps giving this impression that there are no new, BETTER VR games after 2017 and those on the fence will keep being turned off from VR because they alwats see the same games over and over again in these lists.

Yep nothing really new that would have most wanting to shell out hundreds. The most recent being Horizon and Half Life and even those are on two different platforms so yeah I don't see VR taking off just yet. Soon maybe?

I agree. A lot of these are just "my first try at VR games. There is no way hellblade shouldn't have been mentioned over most of these. I think that was one of my most memorable VR experiences. Even though it's a 3rd person game, the atmosphere and story are unmatched.

Into the radius is one of the best experiences I’ve had in vr. Resi 4 remake, Alyx and Boneworks are amazing. Jet Island is a hidden gem too. It’s like shadow of the colossus on a hover board with spider-man like web swinging

When i finally decided to try wearing my glasses after even the Quest 3 appeared very blurry to me i was surprised how clear it was, Into the Radius looks beautiful now and i started a new game for that

With games like Into the Radius, Assassin's Creed Nexus, Underdogs, Vertigo 2, Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners, STAR WARS Squadrons, Population One, bunch of physics combat melee fantasy games, Contractors/Onward/Pavlov/H3, and so many more deeper experiences... I think there are a few too many "intro to VR" type games in this list. I enjoy those games, but they definitely wouldn't get me as excited about VR as many of the ones I listed.

I got a Quest 2 headset a couple of years ago, and am in VR almost every day. I fully expected to sink hours into action RPGs and shooting titles, but have ended up using it almost exclusively for fitness. My top games/experiences: FitXR, Beat Saber, Pistol Whip, Superhot, Eleven Table Tennis and sometimes Gorilla Tag (the last I will only play in a private room, to avoid being run over by young children.)

You‘ve missed one must have game for VR: VTOL VR. Ever wanted to control a military jet with only your VR Controllers ? This is for you. It‘s a light sim, sitting between War Thunder SIM and DCS World difficulty wise. DCS World is also a blast in VR.

"Rez Infinite" and "Rush of Blood" are the best game experiences on the PSVR. As with most game review sites--Gaming Bolt must hate rail-shooters (except "Pistol Whip'). The genre does really well in VR.

I know this is an older game, but Farpoint with the Aim Controller for PSVR is a must play. The story is really good and multiplayer is so much fun.

I miss Cube Arena in this list for sure. The first MOBA with classic map like DOTA 2 or League of legends with Minecraft graphics. This sounds insane. You should definitely put it into the next top games even it’s still in app lab and still in development

For me playing GT7 in vr with the Fanatec DD pro wheel justifies the purchase of the PSVR2. Hoping Sony isn’t pulling the plug on the PSVR2- we need an Astrobot 2.

2 or 3 of the games on this list looked good and time consuming. I am not buying a PSVR2 just to play 2-3 games. I don't think VR gaming is there yet, it isn't worth investing in. Somebody told me that I was wrong, so I came to this video to see if it would change my mind. But it seems that I was right after all? Everyone says to buy a Quest 3 instead of an Apple Vision Pro, but I do not see any good use-case for the Quest 3, considering our software capabilities have not even reached the stage where we can make good VR games for it yet. The Apple Vision Pro's use case is replacing the iPad (I don't have an iPad, so this will be my only 'iPad').
