16-Bit Brawl: Jurassic Park SNES vs. Genesis

Welcome to 16-Bit Brawl, a series where we pit two Sega Genesis and Super NES games against one another to see which one comes out on top.
This time we're looking at Jurassic Park for Super NES and Sega Genesis. These are two VERY different games, but which one was better? Let's find out!

Great stuff! I owned and loved the Genesis version as a kid. It looked like the movie and also had some parts of the book such as the raft level.

FYI, there's a ROM hack for the SNES game that adds in a save feature. The reason for the lack of save feature in the original version was the amount of data required to remember everything needed is well beyond what the super SNES cart could do. Remember, the bodies of the dinosaurs remain indoors where you killed them.

I enjoyed your perspective on both quite a bit! I still need to try the Genesis one. This series is somewhat like Console Wars, but without the over-the-top skits. That's a good thing.

I only owned the SNES version, and you hit the nail on the head. It’s a quality game bogged down by one huge oversight: the inability to SAVE. Believe me, I tried to finish it once, but after about 2 hours, I still had about a third of the game left, and that was with help from Nintendo Power. For me, it’s in a similar situation as Blaster Master and Rygar, good games that desperately needed a save or password.

One of the few cases where Genesis is better than SNES. Mortal Kombat, and one of the X-Men games. Being a couple of others.

Back in junior high a friend always wanted to come to my place to my place to play the 3DO Jurassic Park as he compared the 3D section to his SNES Jurassic Park 3D section... That Jurassic Park 3D level comparison was his genesis of interest in CD games But then he'd get a PlayStation and his interest in playing 3DO games kind of fell off
